Those are truly brave man as are any men that fight for what they believe in. America is not the land of the free for everyone also how did America became so great let’s not fool ourselves. (Palms 33:12 12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance.) If we going to read scripture, read it in its full contents because it’s referring to a nation of people which are the chosen!

First of all, you must be an uneducated child if you can’t believe people hate this country. Now, if by people you mean to say Americans then yeah you shouldn’t believe that because I am willing to bet there’s not a single American who truly hates our country. Let’s get one thing clear, being critical of one’s country doesn’t mean that the person doesn’t love his/her country. It simply means that they are aware of our country’s shortcomings and they want our country to rise and be better than our past. Your mentality of, if you don’t like it here then leave and go find a better place, is beyond childish to put it nicely. But just to make sure you understand one thing, I’ll remind you of one thing. The United States Bill of Rights mentions something along the lines of ‘freedom of religion, speech, press, assembly, and petition;’ I believe it’s the first amendment. Now isn’t it wonderful that it was included as an amendment to the constitution so that no American could dictate to another American that they have to leave their country simply because they disagree. Thought you could use a reminder of what being an American is all about. You’re welcome.

Thomas, while I sympathize with your feelings about Flag Burners. Those of us who have served in the Military take an oath to Defend the Constitution, and sadly, flag burning is a form of speech. I served 20 years active duty. I am a disabled veteran and I love this Nation with every fiber of my being. Getting to wear the uniform is to cover yourself with the cloth of this Great Nation. I can't pick and choose which parts of the Constitution I will support and defend I have to support the whole thing. That means swallowing some unsavory actions. And even though I believe he was only doing it to self promote, even Colin Kaoperturd taking a knee is protected by the first amendment. I will say this, I tried foolishly to explain to people that the Star Spangled Banner is not racist. I even provided similar links that tell this story But I got told White privilege yada yada yada Steve I didn't know you were a racist blah blah blah and all other kinds of ignorance One of the greatest problems with our Nation today is no one considers what others have to say ( not accusing you of doing that Sir). While others are talking we are thinking of what we are going to say. Our Government is a prime example. But even though I said all that, when I'm at a ball game or just within earshot of our National Anthem I get pissed when people don't show respect. Also, maybe the host can answer this, I read somewhere that the reason we stopped singing the verse with the word slave in it was because around WWI we were starting to become friendly with the U.K. ( which for obvious reasons much, if not all the 19th Century was a time when we were not on good terms with them) Anyone else heard that? Anyway, I just came upon this video today. Thank you so much. It put me back in touch with some proud moments and now I am thinking about many of my brothers Thank You

Just watched your reaction to The Star Spangled Banner. I’m 65 and have never heard the history of how the song came into being. I was a young kid when we still sang this song as well as recited the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag and the Bible. This song already had meaning to it for me, but now will have much more meaning. I think every person living in this great country should hear this.

Not the only error. Key was there for one prisoner not all, the out cone of the war was not going to be determined by this battle nor is if the flag stood. The Ametican casualties were light, none died hold up the flag. There were mo women or children at the fort.

There is no question in my mind Americans in their heart from day one understand this sacrifice and will stand in line to hold the flag high for everyone. It is our compassion for all that have made this world better, safer, and richer in all aspects. It will be a very sad day when this not the case. It is not the most hated country in the world, it is, without question, the most admired and loved. I have been around the world it is all I have felt, and provided.

My family has a strong military background. I currently have a daughter serving in the USAF. We are proud of our heritage. Just last week I pulled this up and was FLOORED when my husband said he had never heard this before. Why don't they teach this in our schools? Thankfully my daughters grew up listening to their great -grandfather, great-uncles, grandmother, etc. talk about our great nation and the sacrifices that were made to make it free. Mistakes were made obviously, but the fact remains that we are free and the cost was steep. May God bless you all and protect our troops.

I loved you’re reaction!!! So many people don’t get what it means for the flag to touch the ground. Every time Someone disrespects that flag they’re disrespecting our political leaders they’re disrespecting our forefathers and every soldier that’s fought and died to give them the freedom they have. The blood that’s on that flag is extreme and everytime it’s stomped on they’re stomping on the dead that died and gave them the freedom to stomp on that flag. I better never see it in my lifetime coz they will have me on them. I will fight anyone that disrespects my country. I will stand up and defend that flag.

The fact that this story isn't commonly taught baffles me - it's about one of the most important nights in the history of our country - every American should be able to tell this story from memory, yet it's left out of most curriculum. *Fun Fact:* The fort mentioned is *Fort McHenry* and is just outside Baltimore AND IT IS STILL THERE! It's now a national park and has been preserved to look the way it did back then. You can stand on the edge of the fort and look out and see the harbor that was full of British ships and imagine the sight. The flag that flies there is now a replica, the original was so badly damaged. BUT - you can see the original flag as well - it's at the Smithsonian American History museum in Washington DC. It's pretty badly shot up and has holes in it (you can find pictures of it online as well), but you can stand there and see it. I recommend to anyone that gets a chance to visit Fort McHenry and the Smithsonian American History museum. It's quite a moving experience to see first hand. Cheers.

This was taught in schools many years ago, when we still had prayer. I am shocked at how many don't know this historical fact. My uncle was one of the young Marines that held up the flag in World War Two. The now famous picture and subsequent statue. To this day I still stand with tears in my eyes for My Countries Anthem. We of the older generation that lived through war and have the memories of war are hurting to our very souls as we see what is happening to our Country today. Watching as the very young men left, knowing most would never come home. The dreaded telegram with the Black Band. All some families have left are Dog Tags that are proudly displayed and cherished. God Bless the United States of America

You think of what the people fought for during the revolutionary war, then again during the war of 1812 when Francis Scott Key penned this poem, and it brings tears, pride and thankfulness that we live in this awesome country. It seems unfathomable that there are so many citizens that don’t like or respect this country, and are continually trying to destroy it. Yes, we made some horrendous mistakes throughout our history, but this remains the greatest country in the world.
