I just realised half of the main crew weren't even supposed to be there to start off, Kirk was grounded, Uhura was assigned to another ship until Spock changed it, Scotty was stranded at a Starfleet outpost and Sulu took over for a sick crew member. The only ones who were supposed to be there were Bones, Spock and Chekov

I like the underrated moment at 0:35 where Kirk shakes Bones hand, puts his best foot forward and brave face and swallows the situation like a man. Something really humble and decent about it, wanting the best for him. Great acting by Chris Pine.

I loved Pike as a captain. In just this scene you can tell he's a good leader. Cuz he didn't get mad at Sulu for messing up and didn't get impatient at him. He also didn't make a big scene and didn't make him feel like an idiot, even though everyone was staring at him. Pike just let Sulu figure out the problem on his own.

On the other hand, Nero would have anticipated the Enterprise coming anyway. The first 10-12 minutes of the movie is some of the finest grand-scale cinematic work I’ve seen before or since. A perfect blend of story, score, and suspense. Unfortunately, after the 2nd installment in this series which was also very good, things went downhill to the point the studios doubted the economic viability of further offerings.

By the way, I never quite got the "it was an attempt to avoid the appareance of favouritism" argument earlier in the film (when Uhura confronts him with her assignment to the Farragut instead of the Enterprise) until watching their first kiss in the elevator for the fiftieth time. His argument may sound fairly reasonable at first...not least since it's Spock who says it...😄 but actually ot doesn't make sense. Uhura is completely right, why would a supervisor not want their top students aboard for such a "life or death" mission?! He had every right to "prefer" this student based on her skills as every superior would. With "preferential treatment" he was actually referring to his affection for her, at least a certain bond he did not have with other academy members. Deliberately or not, awarely or not, what he meant was he likes her!

@aeureus
@aeureus 5 жыл бұрын
It's not really an emergency break, it's more like a reverse magnetic/warp/gravity field that blocks a normal warp field from forming, hence no warp speed. The normal parking break just shuts off impulse and warp drive.
@therealmistahjay
@therealmistahjay 4 жыл бұрын
And the irony of course is that that same “emergency brake” situation is what saved them from warping into the ambush like the rest of the fleet.
