Double Toasted crew, I want to tell you all how awesome you are. Your use of humor always helps remind me that no bad situation in life can't be overcome through comedy. When you can make a job and laugh at a bad situation (police brutality and racism), you can rise above it.

For me, the "Sabaotage" was just.... awesome LOL. Cuz while it was a bit out of nowhere in the first film, in this one, they kinda set it up (with PUBLIC ENEMY, no less)... so when the song appears again here, it made more sense, and was actually enjoyable. Within the context of what's been established in this version of the lore, of course Kirk was gonna be happy with that song choice. So fuck the haters. RIP MCA. I love "Sabotage" in this film hahaha.... The use of it in the film was definitely tongue-in-cheek, to me. As soon as you hear them explain "beats & shouting", the audience in my theatre knew it was coming.... and fuck it, it worked.

After people complained about this song in the trailer, I was worried that they will get rid of it. So, when they were setting it up for the fight, I was basically begging them to play it. That was what won me over in the reboot, so, it's like the music of my people. In fact, many trekkers do love this song and were pleased to hear it, as comical as the idea of destroying ships with music is.

Yes, it had a point here. I also like it because they were making fun of it at the same time given the context how it was used/brought in the first movie.

Star Trek Beyond- I AM SO ENARGED.The Story had so many holes an unanswered questions. A lot of scenes made no sense. If all those tiny enemy ships came from the planet...THEN WHY WERE THEY BLOWING UP GOING BACK DOWN TO THE PLANET. 2. IF THEY HAD LITTLE TINY SHIPS WHY DIDNT THEY JUST GO HOME WHEN THEY MADE THEM AN HOW DID THEY GET TO THE STAR SPACE STATION BEFORE KIRK? WHAT ALL THOSE TINY LITTLE SHIPS HAD WARP DRIVE? THEN WHY DIDNT THEY JUST GO BACK HOME??? THE MAIN BAD GUY WAS A HUMAN. HIS TEETH WERE FANGS IN THE BEGINNING THEN HE HAD PEARLY WHITE TEETH AN TURNED BACK TO A BLACK MAN AT THE END. 3. IF THAT OTHER ALIEN LADY HAD CLOAKING GEAR WHY DIDNT THEY JUST SNEAK INTO THE BASE AN CLOAK THEM ALL OUT. 4. WHY WAS THE ALIEN BASE A SMALL LITTLE DINKY TOWN FOR HAVING A BAZILLION SHIPS AN A BAZILLION PEOPLE. 5. HOW DID A 100 YEAR OLD STAR SHIP CRASH LAND THEN THEY REPORDUCED INTO A BAZILLION PEOPLE RACE IN JUST 100 YEARS? WHERE WAS THEIR HUGE BASE? WHY DIDNT THEY JUST FLY BACK HOME SINCE THEY HAD THE TECHNOLOGY? THIS MOVIE WAS JUST PLAIN STUPID AN MADE NO SENSE. DONT YOU THINK OF I WAS STRANDED AN AS SOON AS I HAD THE CHANCE TO LEAVE I WOULD. I WOULDNT GET ANGRY AN BUILD A BUNCH OF SHIPS TO ATTACK MY OWN RACE....I WOULD JUST GO HOME. HOW DID THESE LITTLE BAZILLION SHIPS HAVE WARP DRIVE TO BEAT KIRK BACK TO THE STAR BALL SPACE STATION? STUPID STUPID MOVIE.... . STORY SUCKED AN MADE ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE.

the sabatoge scene was my favorite scene in the whole movie! they didnt make up some bullshit to take out these aliens, those aliens didnt use radio waves. they had a radio! it was the frequency that did it. thats why its so cool. it was HER home. to me this was one of the best movies ive seen in a WHILE. definitely the best sci-fi to come out in ages. it was so full of life and character. and i feel like the true villain wasnt krall, it was a state of mind. a state of mental desperation where all sense of reality is lost. can you imagine being stranded on an abandoned world, hoping for help that will never come?

@bruce wayne Storywise, it works, though. They already made it a little more mainstream. I think we’ll live. Also, I seriously think sometime people that complain about that crowd when it comes to the movies that actually do it right, and not badly, or like Fast and Furious where, okay...it’s fun but only the stupidly fun stuff. This one did balance out creating its world while having fun action scenes. They also had an arc for everybody this time around, unlike the other two where it was primarily Kirk.

I liked the sabotage scene. Lol. That's a double throwback. Kirk when he stole his dad's car in the beginning of the first one, and a throwback to the original 6 movies. Kim Kattrel as that girl Vulcan has that whole speech about sabotage. Also, did you dig the foreshadowing scene of the sabotage scene with public enemy? Lol. Star Trek likes to show their futuristic characters reminiscing about old stuff, like old music, classic cars... Stuff like that. They do that a lot. With that said, I did roll my eyes during that scene. Lol. I think they could have used a better song, and the premise for using old music was a little cheap. That song does however tie the movies together. And I like the moment of Kirk remembering he was playing that when he stole his stepdad's car

I love you, guys, I am always listening to your reviews, when I just want to chill and relax and you have helped me in a lot of tough moments, but.... I can not disagree more with your dislike both for the villain and for the scene with "Sabotage". And I am little bit of disappointed. (SPOILERS!!) I thought they rushed the villain's storyline, but what we were seeing was a lost in space captain, who saw his crew perish and the same fate, coming to him. Not only that, but he did not want to be in this situation to begin with - to fly a ship and explore the unknown parts of the Universe. Krall was a soldier and this wondering in the vast Cosmos without a clear purpose left him disappointed and lost. And then him and the crew crashed in this planet, where they could not reach the Federation and get help, slowly dying and succumbing to the feeling that they have been abandoned and left to die. This, I believe, led him to loose his better judgement and mind. (not unlike Khan from Star Trek 2). All through the movie there were hints, his constant "Don't give me that Federation bull****, united we stand, please!" and then his log pretty much said it all. Yeah, I do not know why he was hanging with Uhura (like no other villain ever) all the time, but his motivations was there and were sound. About the "Sabotage" scene, it's all about Kirk, who felt lost in space like Krall, and to have the music from his childhood, coming back to destroy his biggest and most dangerous villain yet in the middle of his inner struggle, was really justified and I did not find it at all cheesy or embarrassing. If anything I think it is one of the smoothest inclusion in a sci-fi or a fantasy movie of a song. It made sense to be there (both story and character wise) and did not overstay its welcome. Not even "Guardians of the Galaxy" was able to incorporate its songs that well. Also it is not the first time, when Star Trek (Next Generation) is making references to our human history. Last - how can you not love that at the end it was the radio that kicked the ass out of an advanced alien technology?

Honestly surprised that with Goodwin being a gamer he didn't mention just how much this took from Mass Effect 2. Hell they even had Admiral Raan's voice actor play a federation officer. Enterprise being destroyed by superior technology from an unknown region of space / Normandy getting destroyed by the Collectors (from an unknown region of space), crew captured and harvested, Yorkton was a smaller Citadel, the villains "bees" were just a bigger version of the collector swarms....and with all of this they didn't really explain Elba's character.!!! Also was with the infiltrator when she was hailing Yorkton, her face was going all crazy like Elba's character did when he was harvesting crew members. What was that about? Answers!! Overall it was ok (shrugs) lol

Never saw much Star Trek before 2009, so everything I say should be taken with a grain of salt. That being said, I loved Star Trek '09, really liked STID, and yet was completely meh on Beyond. It was either very cheesy or very generic. Honestly, I missed JJ. The story was overly basic, the villain wasn't fleshed out, the coloring was bleached out, Sulu and Uhura had absolutely nothing to do, that weapon was basically the Aether ripped from Thor 2, Scotty was hamming up that brogue so hard I was waiting for him to fashion a kilt and bagpipes out of the Franklin wreckage, and Kirk's earlier existential crisis was practically forgotten after a bit of danger. In another quiet three years he'll "lack purpose" again. He's an adrenaline junkie, not a captain. Awful, awful writing, and Pegg's being lauded for it??? I'll see Into Darkness over this anyday.

I dunno (spoilers....) I just saw the film. And the bad guy's motivations to me was pretty simple. He was the first captain of one the enterprise voyages. They got marooned in space. And he felt abandoned. So he found a way to extend his life to wreak his revenge on the whole star fleet federation. His weapon was pretty complicated and didn't have a lot of exposition, but other than that his motivations seemed simple to me.

One of the problems I had with Star Trek '09 was the use of Sabotage. It made no sense why young Kirk would be rocking out to a band from 200+ years ago. I liked it better in this movie because they explained why they are using that song in the plot and even poke fun at the fact that it was 200+ years old.

I never got this. He clicked on a classic Rock/music station... that's why it came on. It was a vintage car, so we know his step dad was into vintage/classic era collectables. We listen to classical now, why wouldn't people listen to our music in centuries time? I don't get why it's such an issue. The previous films and series have used classical music, even theatre numbers. Every one pissing and moaning because a different era and genre of music happened to come on the radio. In Beyond, I enjoyed the scene. It made sense why they chose it, it made sense why Kirk reacted to it and It allowed the audience to connect with him, and his journey so far.

I saw the movie last night in IMAX 3D. When I saw that scene with 'Sabotage' being used, I rolled my eyes. Really? Does J.J. Abrams have a contractual agreement with The Beastie Boys to use that song in every freaking Star Trek movie? I was hoping they used the Public Enemy song again like they did earlier in the film. Otherwise, the film was okay for me. Nice send-off for Nimoy and Anton at the end of the film....

Yeah nothing like watching 98 percent of the crew get killed except for the same 8 god damn people every movie. Nope, no extreme elitism there. Star Trek is about the popular/cool kids and that's why nerds love that shit, because it makes them the "it" crowd. Fuck everyone else. lol Let's just be honest about it

Whats with all ths random hate on Into Darkness all of a sudden now that Beyond is out? I adored that film and if I remember correctly it was praised by critics and from most people! Ill admit it was dumb to try and keep the Khan thing a secret in not only the ads but the movie itself, that was a dumb move. Otherwise it's a fantastic film!!!

Yeah I thought they wasted Elba in this,it could've been anyone and even though the concept of the character was cool , the whole old soldier can't let the war go stuff. They should've fleshed that out more.

[Potential spoiler] Personally, I think Krall should've realised error of his ways when Kirk told him why no one came to rescue them. They weren't abandoned as he believed, they were lost. That was his entire beef with Federation and 'unity'; it forces you to rely on others. Then he should've sacrificed himself to save millions on York Town. It would've given better resolution for character, and made him more interesting.

The CH part in Yelchin pronounces the same way it does in chicken, it's a Russian surname, we never pronounce it the same way Americans do in, say, chrome.

@Double Toasted nerd tidbit. If you watched startrek 3 where the enterprise was destroyed.....the yorktown was a constitution class ship...they renamed it the enterpise-A and gave her to kirk at the end of 4.

Having seen the movie, I don't really agree with you guys on the villain. He wasn't great, but he's more complex than I think you guys are giving him credit for.

It isn't just them other people have expressed that the villain could have been developed more and I felt the same way too. When it was revealed what his problem with the Federation was it didn't at all excuse what he was doing to those aliens that he stranded on that planet. It's like he didn't care which innocent people, who had nothing to do his motives, he had to hurt just so he could one day get his revenge on the Federation and that kind of ruins the sympathy they were going for towards the end and as they say just kind of makes him more of an asshole.
@ThePonderer
@ThePonderer 8 жыл бұрын
+mummra4ever Well yeah he's an asshole, he's the villain. Not every villain needs to be sympathetic or have their actions excused by their motivation. I don't disagree that he was poorly developed, I'm not calling him any better than serviceable, but that doesn't change the fact that what he wants goes beyond killing and conquering for the sake of killing and conquering, as Korey suggests.

The Ponderer I know but if we had just gotten to understand him more, and why he felt the way he did, then maybe we could see why he was such a monster to those who had nothing to do with his motives even if it didn't excuse what he did.

The Ponderer But I don't see how that applies to those aliens he was draining the life out of so he could live longer. They certainly won't be given the chance to improve through conflict and pain.

I'm getting tired of Korey forgetting, mixing up, unable to pronounce or straight up not knowing actors names. Really, thats like 5 minutes of Google search tops. Making fun of Cumberbatch's name stopped being funny years ago. If you dare to ask for subscriptions before the video even starts, put that much more effort into them, please.

Best of the trilogy, action packed, clever, heartfelt, presents a strong and relevant message, weak villain as usual with modern blockbusters but he was at least interesting

One of the problems I had with Star Trek: this happy little future where every gets along and no one seems to have any problems with each other. Creating genuine drama and conflict here is very difficult to do.

it's called "utopia". the drama comes from the people trying to destroy that. not to mention the inter-character drama or when the crew f*cks up a mission.

As is the case with Star Wars, there are different ways to approach Star Trek. If you are a casual viewer, then it is just a fun little adventure with some memorable characters. If you are interested in the lore, it is way more complicated than that. There is tension between the Federation's utopian ideals and how it actually functions in practice. The Federation claims to be a model democracy. But it also employs a rather brutal secret police that is accountable to no one (Section 31). The Federation claims Starfleet is an "exploration and scientific agency" (even though it is obviously military). The Federation claims to cherish peace and respect all alien cultures (even while it relentlessly exports its Humanocentric order across the galaxy). So on and so forth.
