Did anyone notice Pegg crowbarred a Spaced reference in there. Later in the movie when Spock is explaining about how they can find the prisoners, Kirk rolls his eyes and says "Skip to the end..." Which is something that was said on more than one occasion in Spaced. There you go now, fact fans.

I thought this was the most "Trek" film in the franchise since The Undiscovered Country. If anything I felt more joy from this film over being a Star Trek movie than any of the JJ Abrams flicks. Like, ever since the TNG films it feels like the movies have been ashamed of being Star Trek and tried to hide it, but this one LOVES being Star Trek and builds on old ideas and tropes from the TV show whilst presenting it with new aliens and worlds. It doesn't even hit you over the head with the "REMEMBER THIS?" iconography, but rather it's got some references to deep cuts from the franchise through the technobabble dialogue. Pegg is such a nerd. I loved it.

I thought it was pretty inconsequential. It was enjoyable, but felt nothing more than an extended television episode put on the big screen. It all felt a bit small-scale for me. A lot of the comments seem to be praising it for a return to its roots, but I didn't quite get it in the end.
@MichaelLaing718 жыл бұрын
As a big Star Trek fan who really hasn't been a fan of the two JJ Abrams films, I have to say I thought this was much more enjoyable. By far the best part of the film is the characters interaction which is great, I also like the fact that it isn't just a Kirk/Spock/Bone's film in the way most of the films have been. The humour works well and the acting spot on. The story is ok, though nothing more, it doesn't have the silliness of 'Trans warp beaming' which is just annoying or other huge plot holes. The big negative is the baddies motivation just feels odd and the action scenes just feel too busy and over the top. Also when bad things are happening to the Enterprise, it doesn't have the feel of impending doom that it should. Over all though a good film and much better than the last two films.

I watched it last night and found it dreadfully boring. Huge amounts of exposition, with Simon Pegg calling up characters to explain obvious points of the plot because they clearly didn't trust the audience to be intelligent enough to understand what was going on. What bothered me the most is how every problem or moment of peril was solved by completely convenient plot contrivance. "OH NO! Our deblabber core is broken. How will we solve this problem?" "Oh, don't worry, I have a jar of marmite, which just happens to be the very one thing which fixes deblabber cores." OH NO! The enemy have a sploogle beam weapon. How will we get out of this one?" "Oh, don't worry, it just so happens that sploogle beams are ineffective against people who wear pink socks. I conveniently happen to have a pair of pink socks for every member of the crew." And the bit at the end with the surfing and the music...UGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH Maybe I have lost my sense of humour, but it just made me roll my eyes. My friend, who sat next to me, let out a sigh.

Star Trek did amazing on every even movie, but the reboot seems to do great on the odd movies. My only complaint on the movies is that they don't grab on to their seats and shake about as they did on the T.V. set. If that is the future world then it exists and thus must be represented as so. Furthermore, the beaming needs to take that time and use the same graphics every time. Simple complaints which would make me feel so happy to see that the bugs in new technology are there as they should be.

There's no need to like or dislike this film, - it's just a movie. However, I'm remiss to let the point slide. Remaking Star Trek as action movies of fast running, jumping, shooting, blam blam whosh smash, crack it to 11 and electrify the warp core, falls as flat as remaking Thelma and Louise in the style of Sex and the City. The characters are there in name and flat-pack, but everything that happens is contrary to the nature of the story. So yes, enjoy the movie and it's pop-cornedness, but when Thelma and Louise meet and decide to get over their troubles by going on a wild shopping spree and road trip to Vegas, giving favours to bar tenders and sipping Cosmopolitans by the craps table - we'll all wonder if we haven't been cheated out of what was once an endearing and engaging story. I'm off to watch a Next Generation episode, where I can enjoy a philosophical and character driven story.

These guys love JJ Abrams for reasons that many dislike him. Because of their reverence of him, it's tough to tell where their review lines up with my taste. Combined with other reviews, it sounds like this is a really good Summer Blockbuster, and a surprisingly good Star Trek movie. Focusing on the ensemble and going away from Chris Pine (who is pretty terrible) seems to be where they've gone with this one. Good choice. The trailer will have failed this movie if it doesn't do well opening weekend. The trailer made it look like rubbish, and definitely not a Star Trek movie.

The Villian was very weak. Idris elba was wasted. They could have sneaked in a bit more social commentary with the unity vs devision theme. The Beastie boys scene was horrific, a plot device stolen from Mars Attacks. Great. It's better than Independence Day Resurgence though.
@bobpolo29648 жыл бұрын

+bob polo yeah it looked good but in the context of the hero vs villain genre which is over crowded right now, it is a very average and forgettable movie. I dare them to do better and take a risk with the next one, make Star Trek shine and do away with a villain entirely.

BBC is on the payroll of Klingons. It's no secret that klingons wants to destroy the Start Trek franchise. They are behind this silly script in the latest installment. Star Trek started simple. The techno/geeky/logic dialogs that tried to comprehend the problems and find the solutions are gone. Replaced by some action and significantly influenced by the Star Wars is destroying the spirit of the Star Trek logic.

I hate Pegg's 'Scotty'. His character is just there for filler. Constant wise-cracking is tiresome beyond belief and not even funny. He's just turned the character into an unfunny joke. Since the klingons were the only ones with a cloaking device and thst was some time in the future it comes as a surprise to find the technology was available when kirk was in his youth. And since he helped the least they could do was share that technology. Scotty was hanging on "by one hand on a cliff edge but they never showed how he managed to save himself or any help he recieved. I"ve watched star trek since the 70"s and loved the first two films of this young starship version." Beyond" felt rushed and stunted.
