what a great scene that adds to the lieutenant Uhura Android temptation scene. I love the Tone Harry has, when he’s talking to the lieutenant🖖🏻

My favorite episode. "I'm dyin' of happiness!"

It's strange hearing him say "even if you could afford the best geriatric techniques". I don't recall hearing anyone mention the cost of or paying for something in other episodes of ST.

Remember that the Enterprise is primarily a military vessel and is run like one. The crew of a modern aircraft carrier or destroyer have their food, lodging, and uniforms provided without payment and the same is true for Starfleet. We do see buying/selling on civilian planets and space stations using 'credits'.

@@howardbeatman2820 My impression is that, as Kirk and Picard have mentioned, money is no longer used. So my guess is the cost of things/currency is not relevant within the Federation, not just Starfleet, but credits/currency is used on space stations, or planets that do business with non-Federation beings, or are non-Federation planets. Or individual members of the Federation who trade with these kinds of places, like Harry Mudd or Cyrano Jones. So then it still would be strange and inconsistent that Harry Mudd talked about "affording things" to Uhura.

What I like about this scene is that it showcases a more thoughtful and philosophical Harry Mudd. A shame his lines were not retained-it would have added more breadth to a rather one dimensional, oafish character.

Holy cow, I've come across another one. In this instance, seeing how Harry Mudd acts towards Uhura makes me think of two words: "Stranger Danger." He came off kind of creepy. Quick Harry Mudd info: season 3 was to have a third Mudd story, but Roger Carmel was busy at the time, and season 3 was falling apart as Roddenberry just stopped showing up on the set. He delegated his job out to Bob Justman and another executive. However, I have the book but haven't read it in years, author James Blish was given all the STAR TREK script prior to script rewrite. Example: at the end of season 2 "Who Mourns for Adonis," there was a bridge scene never filmed (I don't think, unless you can find it) due to this problem...the young yeoman, actress Leslie Parrish, had come back to the Enterprise pregnant with Apollo's baby. The NBC sensors deemed it disturbing and unfamiliar like. Blish's book contains the materials for the scripted Mudd episode and was given the green light to write it as a story. Blish's own STAR TREK book titled Sock Must Die is a great book. An early TREK novel. 2 Spocks 🖖! It drove McCoy nuts, and was the instigator of the whole ordeal. I took up too much space. Your deleted clips have me hooked. Thanks so much and I wait for more.

Thank you, James, for your highly excellent comments. I agree with you 100%! Harry Mudd seems very creepy in this scene. Yes, I had known about Gene Roddenberry's idea for a third episode, and a spinoff show with Harry Mudd, and I think that would have been amazing. Yes, you are very correct on Bob Justman, who was given control, and Gene was off filming another movie. I do have a video scene from "Who Mourns For Adonais", which has the Director saying the lines that Leslie Parrish was pregnant with Apollo's child. I will upload it in the weeks to come. You will love it. Thank you for the recommendation on Blish's book: I may have to obtain a copy. So glad you enjoy the deleted scenes. There are many more of these to come. Feel free to comment as much as you like. 👍 🖖🏆

Too bad they didn't keep this. The dialogue is awkward, but it could have been streamlined and it does foreshadow Uhura's later (fake) rebellion over wanting a long-lasting android body.

After all these years, I still can't figure out how they can change and cut the camera angles from person to person and still keep the continuity of the conversation. This scene is shot in a broad aspect. But I would bet there is another camera that is focusing on Uhura's face as Harry Mudd speaks to her. I wonder how many cameras were used in the final cut of this scene?
@katherinefreymuth20302 күн бұрын
They film the scene over and over again at different angles and then splice them together in post-production.

They have some scenes that were shot with 2 cameras, but many were shot with just 1. Katherine's comment below is correct, they do these over and over until the 'Director' gets the 'one' take that he loves or accepts, and then most everything is done in post production. Good comments. 👍🖖
