James Tiberius Kirk. The quintessential hound. Although it's not until The Wrath Of Khan that we see his offspring, it's amazing there was only ONE!😂😂 The man just could never keep his fly closed!! 😂😂😂. Which made him the hero of myself and every other adolescent sci-fi nerd! Keep on keepin' on Captain!

I never cared for kissy-kissy, and I didn't/don't care for it in Star Trek. Relationship should be purely mental in cerebral shows like this. Sex, even a simple kiss, ruins it. Consequently, contrary to comments, I believe the producers were correct in omitting this scene. There are only so many minutes in a program, and there were far more important scenes to include in this particular episode. There was enough to demonstrate the feelings between Kirk and Edith without this scene. Ok, you mushy folks out there in fandom, go ahead and hate me, doesn't bother me. I've been around long enough to have seen this episode when it originally aired, and I'm sticking with my feelings and thoughts about it.

Kirk loving the very person he is willing to let die for the good of the future. That‘s some cognitive dissonance, I would say. This conflict is virtually unbearable and hard to believe. I think it was better to cut this scene and keep the relationship more on the friend zone.

This missing scene fills in the missing pieces and explains "forever" in the title of the episode. It should have been left in but by 1967 standards, it was "too hot" for "family" prime time TV.

Nice edition to the episode. I wish that dialog had been retained, it clearly adds more depth to Uhura's explanation of music. Is it me or is that George Takei's voice in the background with that of Vic Perrin's Nomad? Merry Christmas.
@megostartrek11 минут бұрын
You are 100% correct. That is George Takei's voice, off camera, that is speaking lines to Uhura (Nichelle). And yes, 100%, Vic Perrin's voice for Nomad. You as well. Thank you for your excellent comments. 👍🖖🏆

In the original Ellison draft, Kirk actually lets Edith fall down the stairs (with non-fatal consequences), since at that point in the story he already knows that she’s fated to die. But in the finale, he is unable to bring himself to allow her death in the accident, which then falls to Spock. This is exactly reversed in the version that aired. Also, in the final draft script (not Ellison’s version) there is a bit of additional dialogue that identifies the author of the poem that Kirk cites with the theme of “let me help.” It’s a long, multiple-syllabic name that sounds vaguely Hawaiian, but Kirk tosses it off as easily and knowingly as we would identifying Willam Shakespeare. I don’t know if it was actually shot or not.
@historybuff6610 сағат бұрын
I wonder if this is basically the actual scene we see in the episode. As it plays out, we see Kirk and Spock conversing but what the audience hears is a voiceover “Captain’s log” report by Kirk, finishing just as McCoy shouts “Captain! Over There!”
