Everytime I see your work, the feeling of awe overwhelms me. Everything is cgi now, but I remember when it was done with models. Absolutely an excellent job on one of the only other Constitution class variants that is not ugly or has no feel of what it should look like. Mad Koi is another one, but this one has been on screen now and it is going to once again "Go where no man has gone before" in ST Strange New Worlds. Peace and long life 🖖🏼

Hi Boyd, Very nice work as usual. I’ve been slowly collecting models and waiting to find the time to build them. This of course was first inspired by you years ago. The first model I bought was the 1/350 Refit (and will probably be the last one I build - saving the best for last). Anyway, I love this Enterprise and the Ryan Church Enterprise equally. I love all your work! Thank you!

Thanks buddy, I really like it too. I would love to see R2 do a new kit made for lighting in 1:650 scale of the TOS Enterprise. Make it the same size as the original AMT kit with the same details as the 1:350 model. That would be an awesome companion to this one.

@@TrekWorks IMHO, Revell/Germany could have been close to that with their TOS Enterprise kit. It seemed well-engineered from the construction standpoint (and made for lighting, too; all big points in its favor over the AMT 18" kit) but it had all those awful inaccurate details that create a lot of work to fix. The ring on the underside of the saucer was cut TOO deep and it emulated the awful lines on the hull that the 1991 11-ft model restoration paint job had which were not series-accurate. The Revell kits makes a good case that raised line detail isn't as bad as DEEPLY-engraved details. To get a smooth hull surface, you have to putty all over the Revell model (on the saucer, the engineering hull, AND the nacelles!!!!) to fill in all those hull lines and they are very obvious lines! Putty and sanding work is far more labor-intensive than sanding off ridges, IMHO. I don't know what Revell was thinking. They paid a license fee but they weren't supposed to invent their own design, either. They had a chance to do it right with all the available research but they blew it. The point's moot since the model's out of production; I doubt it will be repopped any time soon. I feel bad for those guys who bought it in Europe just to have an Enterprise without paying import duties on AMT/Rd2/PL kits. The Revell kit is terribly inaccurate -- maybe more so than the original AMT kit ever was...

Hey Boyd, great work as always! Looking forward to starting mine. Just a quick note: the lighting kit retails for $85, not $170 as stated. A high price on first blush for what's in the box, but for someone who has never dabbled with electronics I think it's a fair price. Like you said the materials are one thing, the time saved compared to the piecing it together yourself (and learn about electronics in general) makes the kit a decent value if you just want a lit Enterprise.

That looks great! I think Discovery did a nice job on designing this version of the Enterprise. Much, much better than the Abrams abomination. It looks great without the aztecing too. My thought on that is that on the original refit it was much more subtle. If it were a real ship, each panel was painted before being fitted into place, and each panel would look subtly different than it would if it were painted all at once. Kind of like when you have to fix a spot on your wall and paint it over. Even with the same paint, you can still see the patch in certain lighting conditions.

Love this design and how it looks so far. I have a question not regarding this model (yet). Do you know why the panels have different colors? The best I came up with is trying to build something of the grand size in real life or even coloring after build of said size vs drying time. If any of that makes sense.

Fantastic work, and I really love that pewter color you've gone with! So for the Round2 lighting kit, do you think we could maybe use a potentiometer to slow down the motors? I've done that with the sirens on my Blitzway Ecto-1 (which were spinning way too crazy fast out of the box), but not sure if that would work with these...

Hi again, Wanted to contact you to ask two questions but the links on your KZbin channel “About” page don’t seem to work... Anyway... 1) I bought the PL lighting kit for this model. What would you recommend for me to buy to just add blinking nav/strobe lights? I want to keep it simple. 2) I have the TOS 1/1000 Enterprise (several of them). My plan is to kit bash and have a small fleet based on the Franz Joseph Technical Manual. Can you tell me where I can buy some tiny motors to fit in those warp nacelles?

I don't advise the PL light kit. Left mine on for awhile after I finished the assembly, just kind of admiring it while I worked on other stuff. The LEDs died within hours and the motors melted the plastic holders that holds them in the nacelles. The LEDS don't have any life to them. Must be designed to be turned on for a minute or two and then turned off. They started to dim, then started blink before failing completely.
