Okay, can someone explain this to me. I've just started watching this show -- just finished episode 2. What I saw was that Burnham knocked the captain out, ordered the crew to fire on the Klingon vessel, but before they could, the captain, having regained consciousness, showed up on the bridge, delayed the order, and sent Burnham to the brig. They didn't fire. They didn't do anything. The Klingons ended up attacking after the rest of the fleet showed up,. As far as I could tell, Burnham's 10-second mutiny had absolutely no effect on the situation, since none of the orders she gave when she assumed command were carried out. So why do people act like the battle/defeat/deaths were her fault?
@jarynn8156
@jarynn8156 3 жыл бұрын
She killed T'Kuvma despite strict orders to capture him. As far as the Federation was concerned, that had to be the reason why the Klingons opened fire. Couple that with her act of mutiny in the moments leading up to the battle and her unwillingness to defend her actions, and yeah, she got the blame.

Burnham did very little wrong. Nothing she did at the start made anything worse, and what she tried to do would probably have worked if the Klingons hadn't been bent on starting a war no matter what. They sentenced her to life for assaulting a senior officer, and _attempting_ to lie about her orders to fire on a hostile ship. Which she didn't actually get to do. Pretty sure Tom Paris did worse several times a season and ended up promoted...

@Carlos0619ASmith 4 жыл бұрын
@@seymssogood I believe you mentioned first Tom Paris in comparsion to her. Different universes and approaches will have to be the hallmark of this discussion. Her position was made for her, it was not earned, that is the main point of this converse. She was placed...and literally to throw her acedmic creditnals is the same as SF training is stretching. VAOS does not have a criteria of sending non officer sciencetists to Star Fleet, to gain an officer rank. If she went through first the Vulcan Expendtion Fleet, and then transferred, then her status to SF equivalent would have made sense. But then again this is Secret Hideout story, they short cut everything. Modern Trek it is by design, so say they. Well, they brought all the bad traits that we all are aware of.

About to watch season 3 so like others here I needed a refresher, but now I think I might need a refresher for the refresher. Maybe it's my ADD, but I find this series somewhat hard to follow. I've watched several serial shows including GOT, The Americans, Justified and Breaking Bad to name a few, but never felt confused about what was going on. Discovery is still enjoyable, but I think perhaps in an effort to make it not boring they are overworking the storylines. Fewer more in depth storylines would improve this show immensely,.

I watched the third episode of the third season of Discovery and man... i was bored. Both story line and characters are truely written by a bunch of Kindergarden children that were also short of time. The same happens when a roleplaying game master did not prepare nothing and make things up on the fly. I watch this stuff, but it is a shame that it is connected to Star Trek. In season 1, things looked better - but already here, the ideas around Klingons and many many other things were plain idiotic. The whole thing was not thought out and written by people who love and knoe Star Trek!

Have to disagree, she had a major distrust on the Klingons, due to what happened with her original parents. Second, she never joined Starfleet during her younger days as a cadet. She came on as a civilian, spent 7 years on board learning, was given commission of a officer, which have been a field commission instead. If she had a pysch evaluation as a cadet, she won't made it that far. She was a person of privilege, an experiment by her foster father. Who had no business being in Star Fleet...at all.

Thank you so much for the recap of seasons one and two. I loved season two of Discovery and I think the acting and cinamatics are first rate. I sincerely hope that Ms. Martin-Green will finally be exonerated in this third season. She is a fine actress, but the showrunners and writers of the first season put her in an untenable situation by writing her character as a mutineer and the foster sister of the legacy character Spock. As a consequence, literally everything she did was criticized. I am so happy this show was rescued from the season one showrunners, retconned to give the Discovery a reason to leave established cannon behind, and given a whole new direction. I am excited about the new season and looking forward to your insightful commentary. 🖖

What you call "political correctness" is a set of values that is THE very embodyment of IDIC.

The first thing I think of when I think about st discovery, is " worst Star trek ever. " But that's just me.

I really wish that the show creators would dispense with such stupid nonsense as the sound of every hand held weapon (phaser, whatever) going through that "winding up" noise every single time it's pointed at something or basically so much as touched or moved. That far in the future any device is going to be ready to use NOW. No wind up time and no wind up stupid noises. And let's be honest....antenna dishes don't need lights except to keep planes and spacecraft from crashing into them.

Wow! What a convoluted MESS. Let’s send Discovery into the future and never speak of it again. Even the writers knew this is a confusing piece of dung. Pike, Spock, Number One, and the beautifully re-imagined Enterprise were the only good things that came out of this show. I hope they have new people working on Strange New Worlds who understand what Star Trek actually is.

If it's 3000 years in the future... Why is it on television.. You'd think they'd have something more futuristic

I've seen all these episodes plus S3. Damn, how convoluted! And mashed in with the back and forth Klingon/human, and dead/not dead doctor and dead/not dead Georgiaux, and now ya see em, now ya don't past Trill host--a hellalotta wokeness. Pronouns are convoluted/craptastic.
