Umm no, the actors from the original series were all North American. None of those accents were their own. Walter Koenig (Chekov) is not Russian, in fact his accent is lambasted by real Russians like Anton Yelchin. James Doohan (Scotty) is also NOT an actual Scotsman.

Star Trek 2009 is great because the direction is solid and the cast is phenomenal but, holy shit, the script is garbage. The cast saves it because their chemistry is off the charts, and it's entertaining as all hell, but good lord how do Orci/Kurtzman keep getting work? Also, its Ooh-hoo-ra, not O-hor-a.

The kid little Kirk passes is ACTUALLY Kirks older brother. The other kid looks like a Kirk because he is one. There were 2 deleted scenes that set up Kirk & his brother getting angry at their step father resulting in him stealing the car.

Nick’s argument about going back and saving Romilus doesn’t quite make sense because...thats what they did. They went back to destroy the Federation, whom Nero (erroneously) blamed for the destruction of Romulus (even though it was a natural event), and when Nero realized he could also get revenge on Spock, he did. Remember, this is not a rational person, rather a hurt and hating person making rash decisions based on negative emotions.

The exaggerated accent is a homage to the original chekov accent. Its supposed to be a bit over the top (not originally, but in the 2009 movie). This is the one in-review I wish I could have been a part of, as a big Star Trek fan.

They honestly probably didn’t review them because the community rightfully roasts them everytime they watch something basically released pre Iron Man in 2008 because they say everything is dated and is not like the MCU or whatever is popular in pop culture at the current time. Looking at Kevin and Tim but I wish they would it’s always fascinating to see a group as hilarious as this whom almost exclusively watch modern films look back at some classics to see what they think.

I'm sure someone pointed this out already but I didn't see it with a quick glance but the TOS actors were not using natural accents. Chekov's actor Walter Koenig is American and James Doohan who played Scotty was Canadian.

I know Tim seems super averse to it since it's, in his own words, the "super nerd loser thing", but now that he's become more politically active, educated, and aware, I feel he might be better primed and in a more open-minded position to enjoy Star Trek then he was at the time, at least I would like to think so.

I’m not even 10 minutes in and I’m already at Greg watching Justice League level of annoyed. The movie is fun at times, yes, but I found all of their characters so uneven. I’m not the biggest Trek fan but I do love most of the original movies. This movie is so far removed from the source material. Any connection between the original is superficial. And the lens flares! OMG!! I hate them so much. I tend to overreact and say that I hate the first two. They get on my nerves so much. The third one is one of my favorites though. Everything got better. The character interactions. The costumes. The cinematography. Oh. And no. Walter Koenig does not have that accent irl. Sigh🙄

The movie is too obsessed with justifying its existence the overdone back story and needless time travel plot it's too much kinda cringy personally. This should of bin a 1h30 focusing on Kirk and Spock's relationship as they struggle to earn cap. pike's respect the fact that either of them became captain is nonsense. Kirk comes off like a jackass in the beginning and Spock is having tonal whiplash every other scene. You don't need deep philosophy or hard science to make a good StarTrek movie just an honest attempt to ground your characters with involving circumstances. Not time-traveling space junkers turned terrorist, unending gunfights, excessive space bouts with a side of its time travel, not destiny but sometimes its destiny.

they had chekov do the transporter because he understood how the gravity was affecting the planet, and therefore how fast kirk and sulu are falling. which is still kinda dumb because he could probably send that info over to the transporter room pretty easily and quickly.

My personal ranking of the Kelvin Timeline Movies: 1.) Beyond.... Felt the most like a legit episode of the series. Great action and story, also a nice tip-of-the-hat tribute to Nimoy as Spock Prime near the end. 2.) Star Trek 2009.... Doesn't necessarily feel like "Trek", but it does act as a great jumping-off point, being both a reboot AND sequel. 3.) Into Darkness.... Just falls flat as a pseudo-redux of "Wrath of Khan".
