People need to remember, that this was put together some 10-15 years ago. Credit where Credit is due; Hidden Frontier isn't necessarily great by any means, but it's clearly a passion project by everyone involved. These are Trek fans having a ton of fun putting together their own Trek show. They embody the spirit of a dedicated fan in the best of ways, and I give them a ton of credit simply because of that.

I mean it’s at least 80% as good as Star Trek V, and controversial hot take: I love Star Trek V. It’s riddled with flaws but it’s a really fun movie in a super goofy way. And if I can accept that into my heart, I can certainly appreciate this with an open mind, perhaps giggling at things like the bad green-screening and the Perihelion episode saying that quantum singularity drives were purely hypothetical (someone clearly forgot about the Romulans) but it genuinely seems made with a love of the franchise. Much like how Discovery makes some… questionable additions to canon, but it and Picard stay true to the “🖖 Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations” hippy spirit of Star Trek, both mirroring contemporary issues and realistically imagining how future humans might react to futuristic scenarios. What I’m trying to say, I suppose, is that if you have a love of Star Trek, and you’re making either fan productions or canon, you probably won’t stray too far from Trek’s enduring spirit. On the other hand, I did see one that was made with possibly sub-PowerPoint animation, and had a story where witches and a witch academy were just a super normal thing on Earth. Live long and prosper!

yeah when i first watched this i thought this was super amazing. but i mean even the writting i feel like was kind of ahead of its time for star trek at times. like if anything it was on par with ds9 and tng at its best.(that being said the acting yeah) but yeah i feel like even new trek could take some lessons from some of the episodes of this show.

I have recently discovered this, somebody had a really bad download of some of these episodes, I wasn’t sure what I was watching. One thing I realized is that it had me splitting my gut, The humor is totally off-the-wall. And it amazed me that this was mostly done with virtual sets, using lightwave even, and, back in 2000, when computing wasn’t as easy as it is today. Editing software was difficult to work with, and yet these episodes have great quality. I had never even heard of this. But it is always welcome to see a triple-nacelle Galaxy class ship milling about. The first episode I watched was “Yesterdays excelsior”. At one point there are Borg, and their costumes look like Ming from old Flash Gordon serials. Lol! Well done, thank you for having these available here. I had checked on the hidden frontier website but any videos there had been removed... by the time I was finished watching Yesterdays Excelsior, I realized, that I actually cared about these characters, some of them even based upon characters from episodes of next generation. That is the true test of any Trek series or fan series even, do we care about the characters? And when I realized that I actually did, I was hooked!

I am glad I found these... Many years ago, I visited with David Dial (the captain of this ship), many times, He loved doing these videos, I wish I knew how he is doing now... We would talk about his acting often times, sometimes it was funny and sometimes serious... I think those of you that don't like him as the captain in this video, would cut him some slack IF you knew what a challenge this was for him from the very beginning when he started... I was an AVID Star Trek Fan in those years, so we could really burn up the telephone lines at times... I hope David is well, and still in love with the part he played in the Hidden Frontier... Thanks for posting these, old memories, old long lost friend...

Hidden Frontier was one of the first Star Trek fanfilms that I watched. It was your space battle animations that got my attention. It was one of the inspirations for me to start drafting up ideas for a fanfilm idea of my own. But sadly it never went anywhere.

So, I've thoroughly enjoyed watching through this episode. Wondering why the finale(?), Ep 7-8, isn't available in my country, US?? Seriously confusing, when it seems all of the other content is. Again, aside from the green screen fun and 360p, I found this series engaging, well written, and often well acted. It's amazing how dedicated this group was to take so much time and effort in creating something that contributes positively to the Star Trek legacy. Thank you HF team!!! 💜🌎🌠🖖

To be honest, I could never get into this series. The acting went from pretty awful (Knapp) to pretty damn good (Rodriguez) and it was this inconsistency that kept pulling me out of the story. But years later, when I look at this, I realize just how good it is. The costumes are perfect. The special effects are incredible and although the script could have used some serious polish - it's still good. Th acting - like I said inconsistent - was still pretty good considering everyone was volunteering their time. Today I would have to say that I am damn impressed with this effort.

Some uneducated naive HF fan's wrote, "I don't know the details on HF's production"......THANK YOU for admitting this up front. I do because I have been in fan videos circles (and HF's and many others) and make my career in video and major studio film production since the late 80's. Try googling Hidden Frontier's 'copyright piracy of Star Trek CBS/Paramount's Intellectual property' or 'Hidden Frontier's many problems with local Los Angeles Star Trek fan clubs', and "militant Hidden Frontier's gay political agenda of it's amateur production staff'. I do and you don't know what your speaking to support. Trek fans often romanticize to overlook fan video production fraud and piracy due to their 'not knowing the details. I support the many artists at CBS Trek and their fight against any piracy of their I.P. and the well known established copyright international laws. Please get educated on international trademark theft, copyright piracy, licensing and other related matters. I believe and wish to protect all art and their originators.
