Not one of my favourites, but I loved seeing how many of the later standard features were gradually added, such as the phasers and torpedoes. Not having a tractor beam and having to rely on grappling hooks for the shuttles always annoyed me, as well as the lack of food replicators, but the fact they were always the underdog added suspense to the series.
@dunsel58872 жыл бұрын
@@M1tjakaramazov I tend to agree. I do like the overall look but the mass to line of thrust makes me cringe, if you look at the sub-light drive line of thrust and the mass placement it is extremely top heavy, the engines will pitch it up without constant counter thrust from the maneuvering thrusters, stupid, if the nasals had been just under the saucer more like the Akira class it would be better thrust balanced. guess they wanted it to look cool not go straight

@@dunsel5887 I think it's just the result of two design philosphies colliding - the Jetsons approach of the 60s when they thoght future materials would be so tensile that normal laws of stress and physics would no longer apply, and the early 2000s attempt to move away from the 90s sleek pastel and brushed-steel look towards more realistic and gritty designs. The result was a logical and aesthetic mish-mash.

@@dunsel5887 don't all of the main startrek ships have rather silly center of mass to center of thrust lines? At least most of the "classic human startrek ships" are oddly lopsided, this is one of the more sensible hero ships from the series as far as I can tell.

@@josephcontreras8930 The USS Kelvin almost literally makes my skin crawl. It's just soooooo wrong. All of the Starfleet vessels follow a certain standard, and then the designer for the Kelvin comes along and says "Let's try doing all these things upside-down and see what happens". I can barely stand to look at the thing. The NX-01 is a bit more basic, but it's the first prototype for what would later be standard design elements, and I love how it still manages to capture that elegance that would persist (Kelvin excepted) throughout Starfleet.

My favourite of all the ships and series for two Reasons, one is that it looked and performed like an expected “next step” invention. Starfleet was established but still scientific and logistical. The fact they needed to board MACOs to defend is a likely story in the development of space travel likely to happen to humans. The second was it was futuristic but only in increments. It still had the expected military submarine attitude to it whilst been ahead of the class. No civilian , no families just people working and developing, excellent work on developing this

Another great video. The Warp 5 engine at the time the series started was the most innovative human tool. As an Enterprise defender, i’ve made these points before, but for the uninitiated, warp speed increases aren’t uniform, they’re exponential. I don’t have my chart handy, but Warp 5 is many, many times faster than Warp 4.

@balrighty35232 жыл бұрын
I always preferred the TOS scale over the TNG scale. 1. It was simply the cube of the factor (warp 1 was (1x1x1)=1c, warp 5 was (5x5x5)=125c, etc.), rather than the factor raised to the power of 3.333... Much easier to figure out. 2. The numbers just kept going (so you could figure out what warp 14.1 was, if you wanted), rather than the scale completely changing above warp 9 because they wanted to cram every speed between that and infinite speed between 9 and 10. I'm convinced the "warp 13" we hear in the future of TNG's finale is there because they realized how dumb it was having ships travel at warp 9.9999 or warp 9.9999999.

Thank you as always for making this video. I initially didn't know if I liked this ship or not when watching the series but it quickly grew on me. It felt like everything had purpose and we got to see how they had to fine-tune all of the systems whilst on mission because at this point they had not perfected the technology yet, and I thought this was something we needed. Even got to see Tucker come up with and develop the "forcefields", as well as Novakovich's unfortunate transporter accident prompting them to add the Annular Confinement Beam.

I love seeing the development of the NX-01 but sometimes it is a bit weird storywise. It feels like a lot of technological development that we've seen in the Star Trek universe across several hundred years is created in that single family of ships called the Enterprise. I like how NX-01 encountered photon torpedoes and holodeck technology in alien ships and never exploited it but when one of the crew discovered/created something that will become a universal standard in the coming generations, that feels strange. That's the problem with prequel stories trying to make callbacks or references to series set in the future.

The situation area was not closed off with support beams but rather an open area with railing separations only. Archer's Ready Room did not have a second door nor is the layout exact. As I recall, there is one episode of TNG (season one I believe) where they sent someone (maybe La Forge) down to Ten-Forward to get a visual naked eye view of something exterior to the ship. They fly entirely by sensors. A naked eye is useless when going at warp, and even at sub-light speeds, I imagine full impulse would still be very fast. If the main viewscreen goes down, there are many other panels to look at. They can also fly the ship from Main Engineering.

@@Halfscreen Always man. You never let down on quality and its always engaging. Enterprise is my 3rd favorite behind DS9 and TOS. T'Pol was expressive with her eyes a lot before the trellium thing. She emulated vulcan females well in my opinion before she went straight for the vein. Very composed yet still feeling.

@@whitewolf6605 Thanks. I have noticed there are very few quality-related original ST materials on YT, so I say heck, I will give it a try.

PLEASE DO THE NX-REFIT TOO!
@shawnbrennan25835 ай бұрын
I find it very unlikely that the NX-01 had VIP visitors or dignitary quarters onboard, and that those spaces would be utilized for something more utilitarian. This can be backed up by the episode "Fallen Hero" and Ambassador V'Lar's stay onboard Enterprise, where Hoshi was required to vacate her stateroom, striping it bare to provide a more spartan atmosphere. If VIP staterooms were available V'Lar would have assigned to one of those, made spartan or not.

LOL. Sounds like your clone decided to interrupt you at 5:55. I loved the video though, I've never seen one about the NX-01.

Thank you! What strikes me is the volume difference. If NC 01 had 88 crew, but 1701 had like 400, even with increased volume Constitution class seems more cramped, like an aircraft carrier

I really do like the NX-01 refit where they add the 2ndary hull.

Nice video… except the shot at 4:57 has a couple of screwups. WTF is a “IMPLUSE ENGINE” and Intake ramjet was thought up by Robert W. BUSSARD… and not Wobert T. Brussard. 😉Yeah, the BUSSARD Collector is actually a real thought experiment.

225 meters doesn't sound like much at first, but the biggest battleship class the US ever built, the Iowa class, was only 262.1 meters. Not much bigger and it is considered a rather large ship as naval vessels go. A Nimitz class carrier is 332.8 meters. And a Arleigh Burke Class destroyer is 155 meters.

Starfleet: "This is our highest achievement so far" Klingons on first contact "We will destroy your puny ship" Klingons in last episode of TNG: "....." (blown to shit by superior Starfleet ship)

You do fantastic model work and I am enjoying every one of these. Next to the Refit and/or A, the NX-01 is my next favorite design. I just remember first seeing it and feeling as though it could be real, and in operations today (not just...20 years ago!!!). This is one thing that Discovery bothered me about its less realistic practical feel. I also do not think anyone understands ship exterior or interior size anymore and could use your help.

Thanks. I used to create architectural rendering, meaning it has to be scaled correctly if you wanted management and the client to be happy with the result, so I can understand the sentiment.
