This is Goldsmith doing his best Forrest Gump theme variation…and it’s just so beautiful. I’ve cried at this many nights just by repeatedly listening. It’s transforming. Everything else fades after this, then becomes secondary to the spiritual elation that I’ve felt. It’s truly unlike anything else. So simple, yet so profound and unexplainable. The key is in the sustained brass, the beauty and simplicity of the harp and oboe/flute solos, then the stopped horns to change the tone yet keep it quiet…it’s all just so perfect.

Insurection being forgettable is one of the least of its issues. Despite it being a big one people do bring up.that being said on it's own its extremely overrated but I think that by being associated with this intro and movie it does contribute a bit to some of the issues this movie has.

I don't suppose any of you know whether Goldsmith ever expanded his beautiful Ba'ku Village theme into a full orchestral piece. It would be fantastic if it were, as I am a large fan of classical music and this short theme seems so classically inspired it is beyond belief.
@Ovrkyl10 жыл бұрын
Agreed. Someone should treat it the same way the theme from "Inner Light" was expanded on. This theme, the beautiful portion of ST5's title (the only good thing about that whole movie), and "Inner Light" are some of the most beautiful themes in all of Star Trek.
@darthkurland6 жыл бұрын
Ovrkyl the theme from “The Inner Light” was composed by Jay Chattaway. But I do agree that there are some similarities between the two pieces. This motif starts with the fanfare written by Alexander Courage (who also orchestrated the score for this entire film) and continues into this serene and quiet melody. Then comes a bit of trouble after Data gets shot and goes crazy. The piece then concludes with Jerry’s theme from TMP/TNG as the Enterprise appears overhead of the camera.

As an early 90s child I always dreamt of adventure and drama that would rival the exciting adventures of the enterprise crew- instead I grew up in a culture of radical narcissism, I often wondered if I was missing a trick being friendly and non-judgemental .. I often felt sadness at my younger sibings being born in a post 9-11 world... but then the theme of the enterprise kicks back in and I think whoever you are from whatever society you're in.. be it America or some tiny island that has no clout ... that theme represents hope in the face of hopelessness no matter what your goal is as long as it's not to do harm to anything or anyone on this earth or in the rest of reality

dosmastrify it is 20 years now. I really believe that Jerry Goldsmith was the right composer for the film series of “Star Trek.” It all started with the very first film in 1979. Followed by: “Star Trek V: The Final Frontier” (1989) “Star Trek: First Contact” (1996) “Star Trek: Insurrection” (1998) And concluded with “Star Trek: Nemesis” (2002). In addition, Jerry wrote the theme for “Star Trek: Voyager” and won an Emmy Award for it. Unfortunately, during his scoring sessions for “Star Trek: Nemesis,” it was discovered that he was diagnosed with abdominal cancer. “Star Trek: Nemesis” would be his final complete score for a motion picture, as he died just two years later at the age of 75.

@Gojira Shinigami Thank You for posting this. I also consider this a great song and I agree it is poorly put in value in the movie. In defence of Nemesis theme, I think that all main themes in, say, Generations to Nemesis are strongly related to the galactic area where the action takes place. First Contact is SO american with that wind instruments ;) Insurrection theme has the Ba'ku touch. So in Nemesis there should be a Romulan/Reman influence. That noisy orchestral sounds are so much "romulan style" you gotta hate it ;) or not!

I felt the movie need more as well. I mean a planet which has the power to restore ones youth would be a highly coveted prize by many species. Which until this movie admitly was a planet no one cared about until the sona where like oh yeah some non federation people are living on your world can we kick them off because we want use the planets radiation to make us and you guys Imotral basicly but yeah doing so will kill all life on the planet so that's why we want them off. It just makes me shut my eyes and imagine I'm in some enchanted forest with a river flowing. That was one of the great things about Jerry Goldsmith, even if he did music for movies that were mediocre, he never half-assed his scores. Same thing can be said for James Horner.
