The eighth score in the franchise, and this movie would bring a much needed breath of fresh air into the series. It is arguably the best in the entire franchise, but many would probably place it second behind The Wrath of Khan. This would see the return of Goldsmith once again, and he would never leave the franchise once he became involved this time (that is until his death).
The theme presented here is a bold, and somewhat nostalgic if I may say so myself. A heroic theme is what Goldsmith wrote here, and he would use it plenty of times through out the score. Also returning would be the Klingon theme and not much has changed with the theme other than the fact that the tempo had certainly been increased which made feel like a true battle theme. However it's probably best to call it the Worf theme by this time since he is the only Klingon appearing in the Next Generation movies from this point on.
The Blaster Beam would make a reappearance in this score. A mutation of his electronic "Blaster Beam" in a heavy, relentless minor key motif to portray the mechanized Borg. The Borg theme is used in different ways such as with the Blaster Beam, but also with heavy brass when the Borg Cube first appears.
A note should be taken that Joel Goldsmith also worked on this score because Jerry Goldsmith had run into scheduling conflicts and had difficulties completing The Ghost In The Darkness which is a fine score in itself.

A men to that! Without a shadow of a doubt, one of the best film Star Trek has made. The theme tune reminded me of hope, vision, glancing over that abyss…. To fear nothing that may be there. To embrace the future with open arms, I’m just gutted I won’t be around to see it.

It was the reverse for me. My dad started watching "TOS" after I introduced him to it. He died in '84 so he didn't get to see "TNG" or the others after that. At his funeral, a lone bagpiper played "Amazing Grace". When I saw "WOK" at my college's theatre the following qtr., and Scotty played it for Spock, I cried. I also cried when pipe and played it for Leonard Nimoy. Still, I love the song. As much as people complain about It, I never heard any objection when the song was played in the movie, " Invasion of the Body Snatchers"'( The '68 version with Leonard Nimoy).

And that's what Star Trek is all about, at least the original and first four spin off shows, the new so called Star Trek will touch no one the way the real Star Trek has and will continue to do so for generations to come. Tthe soul of Star Trek is simply about hope, especially in times where it seems hope as forsaken us. the closing scene where Lilly and Picard part ways is so touching, you can see the confidence in her eyes, secure in the knowledge that man does arrive at a golden future born in fire of strife and hardship, all because someone believed in a dream and dared to hope. Thank you for sharing your memory, the studios will never understand what this show means past their bottom line which is why they are destroying a legacy that took 60 years to build.

Very fitting given what we went through over the past 5 years: polarization due to Trump and Brexit, a global pandemic, and now a war in Ukraine. If you know the Star Trek lore, you know that an apocalypse already happened before 2063. And look at the result :)My reasonings have nothing to do with this movie, but I have reason to believe that if an apocalypse, or some other great catastrophe/cataclysm, it will primarily kill the people who did not prepare, who sat there and let it happen.Other people, the more intelligent ones, who saw it coming, will be well hidden and well prepared to hide and wait it out, and then come back out when the dust settles. Then we'll carry on and make something like this happen.I'm not eager to see a nuclear winter, or anything like that, happen, but I am prepared for what may follow.

My father used to work late at a news station and as a child I would stay up all night to hang out with him just a little bit. This was one of our movies. When he died in 2018 I had this song played last at his funeral and to this day it is one of the few that brings tears. Truly it is a beautiful song to me for many reasons.

When this film was released, there was a huge Star Trek event in Toronto, over 4 days they had autograph signings with Takei, Barrett, Doohan, Chase Masterson, and Gates McFadden, the Ontario Science centre had a Science of Trek exhibition, the CN tower had a concert, the Cinesphere had a movie marathon, my buddy and I got to see the premiere at midnight hosted by Gates McFadden ot was just awesome

I think this main theme is the most beautiful one of all the Star Trek films. While all the others have this wonderful adventurous feel to them, this one is just. . . so soothing and heart lifting. It seems like a song to play while viewing all of the memories of Star Trek and the crews of the Enterprise, (both Kirk's and Picard's): The friendships, the brotherly love, the sacrifices, the bravery, the tears, the laughs, the resurrections, and most of all, in memory of all those we've lost-- Gene Roddenberry, Majel Barrett, DeForest Kelly, James Doohan, Grace Lee Whitney, and Leonard Nimoy and all the others.

I CAN'T listen to this without getting goosebumps and I STILL TEAR-UP EVERY TIME! I start thinking of my life, all the years that have gone by with original Trek and beyond as a constant presence, the places I've been, the people I've met and the situations I've survived...life, with all it's triumphs, tragedies, joys and regrets...remembering being young and loved ones who have passed on... It's a book, and EVERY SINGLE PERSON has lived their own "book" with all their own adventures... Honestly, if THIS is not a score for all of our own journeys through life then I don't know what is!!!

The circle is complete. The last ditch efforts in a failing ship the Borg queen did in Picard season 3 episode 10 after failing in this movie and during Janeway's purge of them at the end in making copies of herself to prolong her and the Borg's genocidal drive were ended here in proper fashion. Big D (Enterprise D) got to do what it was made to do and could do when pushed to the limit with the flight assist technology turned off for the propulsion systems with THE best at the controls. That was hit hard, take names, and dance elegantly around tight obstacles while being an insanely large ship. Yes, someone insanely good as a pilot flying like the world is literally on their shoulders in a craft that can deliver the goods if they can make it could indeed show that level of skill in maneuvering. Birds do that type of highly difficult flying regularly.

0:39 - 1:07 - That is tender as hell. It's warm, it's wonderous, it's idealistic. There's a gentle nobility there. Utter perfection. It reminds me of the quieter Jurassic Park theme, probably because of the similar instrumentation and dynamics. Goldsmith hit it out of the park with this melody and chord progression.

That is because he is an amazing composer. I underestimated him for decades, but I feel I was wrong. His visions are just beautiful, and this theme is a perfect example of his energy.

Certainly the best Star Trek Theme, I rate the First Contact soundtrack very highly indeed. Jerry Goldsmith had a gift that elevates him into the upper echelons of movie composers.
