Star Trek: We’re in a weird reboot/prequel Legion of superheroes: ... You don’t even wanna compare to how many reboots WE got!
@Gaia_BentosZX53 жыл бұрын
Dimension hopping was a perfect catalyst, comparing notes to the ultimate conclusion that there's hundreds, if not thousands of potential tomorrows. Focusing too much on the past leads to resentment, and focusing too much on the present can lead to paranoia. What holds this particular story back is the character dynamic, because they are 1:1 to a fault, they constantly bicker. Kirk was the most inconsistent and McCoy was weirdly enough, the MvP of this story since he was the one that called out the bullcrap.
@ianfontanet42303 жыл бұрын
Not sounding like a brony, but do you know how many reboots that Mlp got? 3. Except Gen 5, which it'll be a direct sequel to the Gen 4 series. With Kirk keeping his speech patterns and the references to Trek continuity, I think this is the first Trek comic you've reviewed that was actually written by a Trekie.
@astrocitizen3 жыл бұрын
A quick personal note: I feel that, well, STAR TREK is DC Comics while STAR WARS is Marvel Comics (and yes, I know MC has done both). STAR TREK is all quasi-idealistic visions of the future just as DC has the United Planets and Legion of Super-Heroes, while STAR WARS is all ancient space empires that keep falling under the thrall of bad guys all the time, which is Marvel Comics with the Shi’ar Empire, the Kree, etc., as well as borderline Warhammer 40k futures that nevertheless link back to heroic adventurous families with Kang the Conqueror and Apocalypse. 3:40 - Huh, I read this series, and don’t think I noticed the Starfleet “paratroopers” were DC’s Space Rangers. Thanks! 6:10 - I was going to suggest the Dominion was a reference to the Dominators, which I think also went by that name, but then realized the reference to shape-shifting… my bad. Would have helped if the mob had said “The Founders” instead, but still… 7:25 - Based on how everywhere they go, they get into some clusterf### with the locals and need their gear to escape and settle matters, I suppose it’s entirely logical that Kirk’s team would bring their phasers and whatnot even when visiting Earth. It certainly doesn’t seem like a bad idea at the moment, now does it? 8:10 - Tyr… oh, yeah, the Mohawk guy with the cyber-rocket arm from the Super Powers toy line. It’s weird what you miss from when you’re a kid, isn’t it? 10:30 - Glad to see this franchise crossover didn’t have the crazy out of sync body proportions like we saw with the X-Men characters. 11:27 - Yeah, that was pure Zap Brannigan attitude. Picard - actually, Sisko, to be honest - would have kicked him in the nuts for that move. 13:00 - Er, okay, Ruk’s neat and everything (after all, that’s Ted freakin’ Cassidy from ADDAMS FAMILY), but who and what is the alternate Mano? 17:55 - The skimpy outfits the female Legionnaires keep getting squeezed into aren’t much different than some of the costumes they actually wore from time to time. Honestly surprised that Saturn Girl isn’t in her ‘70s pink bikini costume for this. 19:45 - Hands up anyone else who noticed the Flash’s cosmic treadmill! 20:30 - Personally, I think STAR TREK TNG meets the Nicktoon-era Ninja Turtles with the Fugitoid would be more fun, but hey, to each his own. 21:30 - I remember being of a similar attitude about this. Also, it’s shown that Q was captured by Vandal Savage - who’s been retconned in the past as having a bunch of super-powers when he first became immortal but I doubt anyone worked on this remembered that and it doesn’t feel like it would allow him to imprison Q anyway so never mind - which might be more convincing if rather than our regular Q, it was a less-experienced Q. This could be the female Q or her and Q’s son, the suicidal Q, or maybe even Amanda Rogers (heck, the first and last one would explain why that cavegirl was chosen as a puppet), then it would feel less weird. A little. A crazy idea I’ve had is that, instead of using Q, an alternative that would have played up the DC side of things by having Vandar’s secret be a fifth-dimensional imp a la Mr. Mxyptlk or Johnny Thunder’s genie-bolt (the weird, lavender-colored globe that Q was kept it actually puts me in the mind for the Thunderbolt’s pen-container). The LSH have faced Mxy before, plus the entire team started off as just another part of Superman/Superboy’s mythos after all. Considering that Q is suddenly influenced by word game-constructed contracts, which is totally the 5D imps’ thing, that doesn’t sound as stupid as it probably does at first. Probably. 25:15 - Had to do a Google search to figure that one joke out. A MARVILLE reference… that explains it 28:30 - Awesome!!! 30:20 - Awwwwwww!!!

In fact it is always those sorts of artistic shuffles that I love the most about these kinds of crossovers, borg-cybermen, yellow lantern klingons, and transformer enterprise, that stuff is always so fun to me. I am just picturing a Ghostbusters/Star Trek crossover that involves turning the warp core into a giant trap and them having to capture a planet sized ghost. Maybe make it the source of the Red Jack entity? Just picturing Ray and Scotty working out the mechanics of it, while Spock and Egon do the math, you have Peter and Kirk trying to fast talk the entities to buy time. And have Winston and Louis Tully possessed by Red Jacks trying to stalk down Uhura in the bowels of the ship.

You might not be as much of an expert as some people purport you to be, as you admit, but that just means we all get to experience this stuff together, and anything that highlights lesser-used characters rather than the omnipresent main heroes is cool. I really enjoyed this one, myself though I agree with the flaws you observed, particularly skirt-chasing Kirk (One of my pet peeves is the misperception of Kirk as a horndog.) One of the things I really dug about this crossover is that the Legionnaires mostly have abilities that wouldn't be out of place in the TREK universe. Telepathy? Super intellect? Shapeshifting? Even lightning generation and magnetism feel like they'd mesh well within the ST continuum.

19:28 - _"Aaaand we see a chamber full of time machines, pretty much all references."_ The Delorean, H.G. Wells' time machine, Bill and Ted's phone booth parked beside the TARDIS, the hot tub time machine... wait, the Stargate is a time machine, too? And is that the dagger from Prince of Persia beside it-does that mean the _Prince of Persia_ series of video games is canon in the Star Trek and/or DC universes?!

What generation of the Legion is this? Going by the costumes (Saturn Girl's in particular), facial appearances and Lightning Lad embracing Saturn Girl when we first see them, I'd put this as the first generation of Legion, some time around the Great Darkness Saga. As for the random comment about the Dominion, I've always taken that as referring to the Dominion that DC's Dominators came from who would both be current and close by. Though I imagine in a combined universe, it would have been quite confusing when the Gamma Quadrant Dominion turned up.

No Star Trek style intro? I'm surprised. Also, can you do a review of the second Star Trek/Green Lantern crossover?

I'm semi sure they mean the Dominion aliens from DC's Invasion! Storyline. I think they're in LOSH too.

For anyone wondering who the intended audience was for this bizarre crossover…it was me, I am the intended audience. This is a galaxy-brain concept and I love it. Sassmasters Spock and Braniac 5 having the chance to snark at each other as they fight gave me LIFE. It’s too bad that the execution wasn’t perfect, but the fact that a team of comic book artists cared enough about Star Trek AND Legion of Superheroes to do a crossover fills me with such joy.

12:05 If Kirk met the Teen Titans instead of the Legion of Super-Heroes, he would have gotten a different answer to THAT question. XD

18:23 That Caitian with the bird is thinking _something._ Like maybe she dropped the last one or something. Or she ate it. Or she did that more recently and I'm up to "threw this together just now and hoping no one notices".

Concerning the 2nd stinger: I just got through watching your most recent PO unboxing at the time of this video's release where Viga said that you should add more cats and LO & BEHOLD, THERE ARE MOAR CATS!!!🤣

That guy with the see through skull, i think the fur and single horn on his head is a reference to that one horned dog thing from a TOS episode.
