Interestingly enough one can interpret Q's action to be that of a frustrated parent dealing with their teenage child who had a taste of independence and can not yet comprehend real life as the parent does. Interesting if you consider the possibility that this Q is the deification of the human race and that the Q collective is the collection of all the species that passed the deification phase.

As in the final stage of evolution for a species is becoming a God-like entity and the Q collective is the collection of these entities that constitute a race of their own. For all of Q's sarcasm, stirring, games and provocation it seems to me that humanity is a species of special interest to him. A kind of pet project in which he and possibly the Q Continuum is closely monitoring. The reason? The answer is in Picard's Hamlet quote. Humanity may in the distant future evolve to the level of God like omnipotent beings. In other words, Q beings which the current Q and others like him, may consider humanity a future threat to their way of life and absolute mastery of the universe. Also as various Star Trek series have explored stories involving multiple and parallel universes such as the mirror universe in DS9, I wonder what might occur if Qs from different universes met? Would they be able to coexist in mutual tolerance and friendliness, or might it result in a kind of multiverse war between Qs from different universes? Now that would make for an interesting two part story.

In one of the voyagers episodes they showed what the Q life was like and they had a book on all that was is and ever will be. So why then do they wonder if humanity might pose a threat? Since time isn't linear can't they just see all points in space or is time like a wobbally thing like in Dr. Who?
