Scimitar was too OP. I mean they still had shields at 70% after eating all that phaser and disruptor fire plus at least a dozen torpedoes.

@@robf8349 I would say that number was probably movie storytelling to tell the viewer the TNG crew won't be able to fight their way out. Although I agree they could have done better, since clearly at some points in the battle the Scimitar took a fair bit of damage.

To be slightly fair, discovery and Strange New worlds are both tv shows, while Nemesis is a full on movie. TV shows generally have less time to do effects, and useually have a smaller budget. A better comparison would be Discovery vs DS9 or Enterprise

even if the scimitar got away they wouldnt be able to use there cloak after the structural damage caused by the enterprises ram so it would alteast give the federation fleet a chance and more so if they detect the enterprises hull in the damage caused to the scimitar, realzing whats happened.

Recall what happened to the Enterprise after going thru the vortex. Its shields were down. It's possible the Sphere was suffering the same issues. Not to mention that was a small ship, not one of the larger spheres.

Both plot armor and the fact this ship has 2 shield generators plus the most advanced tech the Romulans currently had. The ship was designed to take on whole fleets and wipe out whole planets. That's why they were trying reach the federation border as fast as possible to warn them of a possible attack. Their is speculation that this ship was stolen from Romulan military facility or built using stolen Romulan parts. Supposedly "stolen" in my opinion. Shinzon then cut a deal with a some Romulan fleet admirals that in exchange for their support of his cause of Reman liberation, he would depose the the Romulan senate via assassination, then support their plains to launch a invasion of federation space which the current administration was against. They assumed they could control him as seen in a deleted scene where Commander Donatra tries to seduce him. When they learned they could not, as her attempt failed, they turned on him and sent ships after him. The whole "the empire considers this to be a internal affair" was political stunt to cover up their involvement in his rise. Anyway it's basically the mary sue writing, just reversed for the bad guys, but they did attempt to put together a plot to make it all work. It failed though as people put this all together years later.

Does anyone else think starfleet should take a leaf out of Shinzons book and equip their ships with primary and secondary shielding. I know they have deflector shields but those aren’t really for kinetic weapons like disrupters. I wonder if the Enterprise F has this ability.

Thinking of it: in space, wouldn't a rammed space ship just bounce back? There's not really a force that holds it in its current position. It's different with 2 cars crashing into each other because of gravity, but in space something tells me the energy should mostly turn kinetic, unless the Scimitar also rams the E back.

The Scimitar is much larger than the Enterprise, so it would have more inertia due to its mass. The Scimitar's hull would crumple before you exerted enough force on it to move it any appreciable distance. Like how shooting a brick with a bullet won't move the brick at anywhere near the speed of the bullet. You'd just shatter the brick.

No collision is ever fully elastic. The Scimitar's mass compared to the Enterprise, plus the fact that both ships had their impulse engines at full power allowed a collision. The part of this scene you should disagree with is the separation - the two ships never should have separated unless both ships were firing reverse thrusters which the Enterprise didn't do.

The ships are still very large and heavy objects with a lot of Mass, and once they’ve collided, their mangled hulls are effectively gripping onto each other.

If they had overloaded the warp core after crashing into the Scimitar, while the ships were still entangled, they would have destroyed her. They would have died themselves though, and the shockwave might have finished off the Romulan warbirds, too, depending on how close they were. But they would have won and saved earth then. Perhaps it was not possible, though, since the warp drive was damaged. Still, they just would have needed to disable the anti matter containment forcefields.

I much preferred when Shields would deflect most (but not all) energy, kinetic and explosive damage, but could still cause minimal hull damage and internal damage to ships. (ST VI) But with shields acting as literal barriers that can block physical objects (such as holding open giant space Doors in TNG ‘Relics”) has kinda made them, space magic…

I wonder how the battle would have went if it was Kirk not Picard commanding the new warship XD I mean Picard obviously didn’t utilize the heat seeking torpedo method like with the Enterprise A verses a klingon bird of prey that could fire while cloaked. Now of course Romulan and Remam cloaking tech is much superior to the Klingons sorry Worf but they can distribute power to both the shields and the cloak. But the E is much more powerful than the A still it makes you wonder anyone else agree…..?
