Episode: 4x08
Title: "Kitumba"
Length: 1:05:33
Release date: January 1, 2014
Stardate: 2623.3
Writers: Patty Wright from an original story concept by John Meredyth Lucas
Special Effects: Tobias Richter
Plot:
"Kitumba" depicts the Enterprise on a suicide mission to the heart of the Klingon Empire. Pulled in every direction by warlords and people that have their own agenda, the Kitumba suddenly finds himself confronting his very enemy: Captain James Kirk and the Enterprise. The choices he makes will resonate through the galaxy for years to come.
The extended-length episode will not only explore Klingon society and show us the home planet, but will bridge the gap between the TOS Klingon Empire and Klingon Empire we saw in the feature films.
"Kitumba" includes a cast of 36 with 59 extras - sporting ridges as well as TOS Klingon makeup. Introducing Kario Periera Bailey as the Kitumba, special surprise guest stars for the episode include Gil Gerard and Andrew Probert.

Speaking as a critic, this episode 'Kitimba' has literally blew my socks off, from a directorial, storyline and acting viewpoint, and is one of the greatest offerings in Star Trek fan films on par with the spirit of TOS itself. Wow! This is quite possibly the best fan production I've ever seen. All the things that normally fall short on fan films (writing, acting, directing, editing) were top notch here. This is engaging from start to finish and I only wish that this could be included as part of official canon, since the tale adds a great deal of depth top Klingon culture and could fit in flawlessly with what we've been shown in TNG and ENT. As James Cawley's final entry playing Kirk, this is a fabulous way to say goodbye.

AWESOME !!!! AWESOME !!!! AWESOME !!!! Gil Gerard and Andrew Probert in the same episode? That's a lot of awesome all in one place. Buck Rogers AND the guy who designed the best looking Enterprise ever (twice) on an episode of Star Trek --- it doesn't get much cooler than that. Lucky for us it didn't cause a rip in the Time-Space-Awesomeness continuum. And the rest of the episode is so great also. Mr. Cawley: An excellent production from every angle. I must say this is one of the most exciting and epic chapter I have ever seen within the Phase II saga, and even better than some TOS tv shows. High definition delivers new details and brilliant new colours to all the sets and space locations, and the new aspect ratio (16:9) adds new life to them, in comparison to the old series. Special effects are also top of the art. A remarkable job indeed, perfectly done. And I loved that Corvette driving reference when you are on the bridge. This episode is simply amazing. I´m going to miss you as the captain of the Enterprise, but I believe Vic Mignogna is about to do it great as captain as well. Will Mr. Doohan be included also in the part of Scotty? I agree. I LOVE these fan efforts like this and especially Star Trek Continues. I prefer how Vic Mignogna portrays Kirk a little better than how Cawley does: he tries to LOOK the part, both physically and in how Shatner portrayed Kirk (in interviews, Mignogna indicates that he's been play-acting Kirk since he was a young child, so his "experience" shows!). James Cawley's acting is fine, but come on- he COULD wear a wig to look more like Shatner; after all, Shatner himself was wearing a wig! Maybe Cawley tried to look like Shat, and it came off badly so he decided to not do it.

Waltzing in here 6 years later, I came to say that after trying to breathe in the toxic atmosphere of Discovery and Picard, this is a welcome breath of fresh air. I comply with that sentiment exactly ! Now with the CBS Libtard lawsuit, we will no longer be able to witness such great achievements from Star Trek New Voyages or all of the other fan base achievements, it's quit sad that corporate Globalists destroy such a genius as this show, which in my view is Star Trek as Gene Rodenberry envisioned! You guys have out done yourselves in keeping Mr. Roddenberry's dream alive and kicking. I'm surprised that you didn't go direct to DVD with this series. Congratulations on a job well done. I also want to tell Mr. Mignogna that he was awesome as a Klingon and to keep up the good work he is doing as Captain Kirk on his Star Trek Continues Series.

Between this and Star Trek Continues it seems I'll be getting my fill of new adventures in TOS era. Great job on everyone's part! The story, the CG effects, the acting, everything was all wonderful. And you can never go wrong with a good Klingon story. Loved the references to Enterprise and even the Abrams Trek film, there was just so much to enjoy. For any Star Trek fan this was a welcome present to be gifted with. :D

I've been saying that for years. When advances in CGI and the advent of crowdfunding converged to allow production values as good as the real deal, the fan films became a threat. No studio wants to be embarrassed by a bunch of so called amateurs

This was a remarkably incredible, well-done episode. Bravo. It really packed a wallop. It was good to see Gil Gerard ("Buck Rogers") and Andrew Probert in this, which helped add to the excitement of the storyline. Additional: I must say that Bobby Quinn Rice, (Peter Kirk) whose acting has improved a bit here, the talented Kim Stinger (Uhura) and the fantastic Jonathan Zungre (Chekov) worked phenomenally well together, and I don't think I will ever get enough of the impressive Brandon Stacy as "Spock." Lastly, I've heard of Kario Periera-Bailey. (Kitumba) He's really good. Plus, there's this Vic Mignogna as the Klingon called Malkthon - he was exceptional, too. All and all, an awesome post. Thank you.

Jarrod Lacy you forgot to mention Michele Specht as the female Klingon Kahli (sp?) (Malkthon's accomplice). Michele Specht is DR Elise McKenna on Star Trek Continues. She did an excellent job here but I prefer her as DR McKenna.

Coincidence or slight of mind? When McCoy states he is glad he won't be around in 100 years, the camera shifts to Spock, then Scotty, both of whom, with McCoy, are indeed around 100 years later...

I have to say none of the Star Trek franchises are done badly, some are better than others. I say this because I am not going to say the ordinary people can do better than the 'professionals' when it comes to Star Trek, however, this is easily just as good as the best Star Trek has to offer. Thank you

Anyone pick up McCoy's comment at 102:48 "Ill be glad I'm not going to be around." Which of course was ironic since, other than Spock, McCoy outlived that crew and was around to see the Federation and Klingons become solid allies. He made a brief cameo on the first episode of Star Trek Next Generation.
