What an episode! This episode ranks as some of the best Star Trek ever, especially in the last 30 plus years. It had tense, dramatic moments, the battle between Lore and Data with Data victorious and he has emerged as a new Data, the tender moments between Troi and Riker, the return of Worf and Raffie to take the Shrike and free Troi and Riker, the way that they took back control of the Titan, vanquishing and killing Vadic and the old crew back together at a conference table and finally, those bits of Star Trek humor. A truly superlative episode. The last two episodes look to be great too.

I was very impressed with the way Data became the dominant personality by giving himself to Lore and overwhelming him. Realizing that Lore could not delete his memories but would be compelled to save his conquest and in doing so be consumed by them.

You know it’s a good episode when you’ve lost all sense of time and they get to a commercial cut spot that has you sitting on the edge of your seat only to realize you have to wait a week. Well played cliffhanger! Datalore’s dialog over the comms was fantastic. Vadic’s last line will live in infamy. For those who are upset at the apparent end of Vadic, she has served her purpose to the story. Now it’s time to move to the real BBEG. Vadic was always a pawn to a bigger player. We have known that since she first cut her hand off. That was the perfect time for her to exit.

@Sci-Finatics Hi Nick, this was such an awesome, memorable episode and I was totally engrossed. What I really loved about it is that it had perfect pacing and balance of tension, lots of humour and great lines, darkness , nostalgia ( in a subtle and less is more manner) and a few beautiful emotional moments. It felt most cinematic. Re: Vadic- I found Amanda’s Plummer’s portrayal of Vadic most enthralling, especially with how she mentally tortured the crew and acted like she was listening to a music score….this is so dark. The actors who played the crew conveyed fear brilliantly. I was so sad at the loss of one crew member, the bald Vulcan, as she was so interesting. I also loved the detail of Vadic’s death, which I didn’t expect. Re: Shaw and 7- It seems to me that there will always be underlying resentment between them which makes things more interesting. That said, Shaw is still being sidelined as a character and I feel like he is being wasted. And I can certainly see 7 being a captain from what I have seen of her actions in this series…she is made for the job. Re: Riker/Troi- I so loved their talk, interspersed with humour. It warmed my heart to see that they sorted things out. Re: Jack- It was interesting to learn that Vadic knew more about him and that Troi will play a big part in helping him, which I was happy to see. Re: Data/Lore- This scene was extremely well done which showed that in the case of Data kindness prevailed and led to the best parts of Lore integrating with him. I loved the soft touch of nostalgia in the forms of memories, especially of Tasha and Spot. It made me emotional to see the look of pure heartfelt joy on Geordi’s and Picard’s face upon seeing their old friend back and seeing Data embrace his human humorous self “ “This is your friendly, positronic, pissed off security system, back on line.” I burst into tears when I saw the TNG crew all together in the briefing room, seeing Tori and Crusher have a little emotional scene and I laughed out loud when Worf said, “I have slaughtered countless enemies over the years and considered sending their heads to all of you, but I was advised that that was… passive aggressive.” And Raffi was bad ass as well.

The Data-Lore battle really got me emotional. Lore didn't have anything, while Data had everything. Watching Lore pet that cat like a little boy hit me hard. I didn't have anything growing up and so I felt Lores pain. When they came together as one, it hit me pretty hard and was so overjoyed that they are one. As for the rest of the episode, what an incredible journey! The writers continue to master their craft and impress with each episode. I left feeling all kinds of emotional, Thank you.

Seeing the entire crew feom Next Generation around the table in the ready room was AMAZING..brought back so many memories. When Diana said "I think its time i met your son" i knew we were getting close to finding out whats going on with Jack. When Diana said she felt a dark presence on the ship and that it was ancient i immediately thought of the Pa Wraith from DS9. I remember when Gul Dukat got possessed by one in DS9 his eyes went red like Jacks. They did come from the worm hole and the Dominion used the worm hole to gain access to the alpha quadrant from the Gamma. Maybe they interacted with the worm hole aliens as well..maybe jacks an emissary. Id watch a new star trek show with the old next Generation crew in it ANYDAY!!!

I really liked the Data and Lore scenes. It s great that Data let Lore win in terms of taking over their brain, but beat Lore in the end by giving Lore all of his memories, thus turning Lore into Data. And he knew, too, that Lore would keep those memories as trophies if presented with them the right way. I also really like Jack's character development. And I like that he isn't keeping his newfound abilities secret from his mom. I am really liking the Jack and Beverly relationship this season. It feels very natural for a single mother to bond closely with the only son she has left. But, I am still not liking where the overarching story about Jack and Picard's genetics is going. I think I am going to be disappointed with whatever is behind that red door. I can't think of how the writers could possibly give me something that doesn't jump the shark at this point. I guess I'll see next week. I am also slightly disappointed that they didn't show us how Worf managed to sneak on board a changeling ship. I guess I can assume that Vadic took all of her best minions with her to the Titan, leaving the Shrike understaffed or something. I still would have liked to have seen it. Maybe I really just like Worf and want more scenes with him. No matter what, though, I am still enjoying most of this season thanks to all the character development moments.
@nooneatall8072
@nooneatall8072 Жыл бұрын
Vadic seemed to take most of her minions with her when she boarded the Titan. Leaving only some guards to watch the prisoners. We saw Worf kill one of these; I assume that between he and Raffi they took out any others on board. And made sure that the Shrike's shields were down (which they appeared to be anyways). We did "see" the cloaked shuttle fly by the Shrike. Maybe Worf and Raffi's actual boarding wasn't shown due to time and also pacing vs. the episode as a whole.

Here is my theory: The Changelings want to use the genetic material of Picard an Jack, which is somehow altered by the Borg on a genetic level to "seek connections" (explaining how Picard heard the Borg in First Contact even without implants), to "force" a Great Link onto the solids. To telepathically connect them. Vadic lamented something along the lines that the Solids are incapable of feeling each other like the Changelings do, and thus are capable of harming each other. I think the Changelings seek to finally pacify the Federation not by exterminating it, but by "converting" it into a state of mind and being more relatable to themselves, using the "Borg Magic" of the Picard line's genetic alterations. Assimilation works on a genetic level as well, after all (as stated in TNG). I still have no idea who the floating head is, but I guess it is someone or something also interested in "pacifying" the Federation by forcing a Great Link/Collective onto them. Maybe it is Jack's own subconsciousness, reaching out to fullfill his utmost desire, to establish connection - although warped into some kind of solipsistic nightmare.

I feel like this theory was also alluded to by Vadic’s comment that it was appropriate that Seven was there to see what happened with Jack next. Well done!

I loved how Troi is playing a big part of helping Jack to understand what’s up to him. They are fixing some weird choices made in the previous seasons, like Will and Deanna living in a forest, and Data’s second unnecessary death. I think they might just have confirmed the most popular fan theory in the sneak peek scene for episode 9. You can quite clearly hear the borg collective as Deanna explores Jacks mind. Im assuming some of Picards nano probes were transmitted to Jack when he got jiggy with it with Beverely. My only problem with this is Seven would have suspected this a long time ago. Whenever she got near anything remotely borg her spidey sense was set off during Voyager

That red door Jack keeps seeing and the darkness around him that Troi senses is the Pah-Wraiths. Makes sense since Terry Matals can’t seem to come up with a fully original idea here. If it is the Pah-Wraiths then that’s complete bull, TNG had absolutely noting to do with those stories any more than it did with the Dominion war and would totally cheapen and DS9 series here.

As far as who the Big Bad is, I’d like it to be the Borg but I feel like it’s too obvious…but little else truly makes sense for a TNG finale. The Dominion have been such a good enemy because of the War, though the TNG crew only really touched that story in “Insurrection” before this season. I’ve seen multiple people say it’s the Pah-Wraiths…which I guess I could see BUT, let’s remember, this season is ultimately supposed to be the TNG crew’s swan song. The Pah-Wraiths were ultimate DS9 baddies with no real connection to Picard or his crew. I could see Gul Dukat as a Pah Wraith planning to take out Starfleet, but he’d go after Sisko’s crew, not Picard’s. Yes, I know Matalas has said the season is also a continuation of both DS9 and Voyager as well - we’ve seen that - but it has to be a meaningful conclusion for the TNG crew. What bad guys did they have for the TOS crew? Klingons, because that’s who they faced the most through their run. For TNG the ultimate bad guys were the Borg, full stop. They faced Ferengi, those “Blue Gill” aliens, shifty Romulans including Tomalok and Sela, evil Klingon factions and Cardassians, but the Borg were always the biggest threat. If it’s Armus I’ll be disappointed because he was such a one-off villain; we only remember or talk about him because he murdered Yar, and while he’s pure evil I don’t see a taking puddle of oil being the big universe-threatening baddie our crew now have to face 35 years later. If Armus was going to escape that planet & try to destroy Starfleet he would surely have done it long before now. I’ve heard interviews from people who know say basically that it’s not going where you think, the changelings aren’t going to clone Picard to make Locutus. That still leaves open the possibility that they want to turn Jack into a new & improved Locutus 2.0 (kind of like how we now have new & improved synth Data 2.0). That’s still my guess, but hey, what do I know? If that’s my guess then it’ll probably be a Pah Wrath - possessed Armus working with a Borg/Romulan alliance that hired rogue Changeling mercenaries! 😄

I kind of get the feeling that the missing Worf/Riker/Troi moments from Episode 7 were cut for budgetary reasons, so they wouldn't have to pay Sirtis and Dorn to be "Special Guest Stars" in this episode. The realities of budget are a fact about Picard Season 3, and I wouldn't be surprised if we get some deleted scenes to coincide with the home media release.

Pretty sure it'll be something Borg-related behind the red door. The pah wraiths theories seem plausible, but too much else suggests some sort of Borg connection. It would be something that could seriously motivate these rogue Changelings who have lost the ability to be part of the Great Link...the Borg can offer them another way to link via some form of assimilation. I don't think the Borg care about the Changelings at all, they're just a means to an end. There's too many things implying the Borg (multiple voices, Seven being an apt witness, Picard's history with the Borg, the "find us, unite us" voices, etc). I think the door being red is apt, as it's almost literally a red herring. Aside from Worf, the pah wraiths were never connected to the TNG crew in any way. Nor would the pah wraiths be all that interested in destroying Starfleet. Pah wraiths are quite single-minded in wanting to destroy the Prophets and controlling the Celestial Temple (Bajoran wormhole). Wiping out Starfleet...I doubt very much the pah wraiths would care to do that. Overall I'm very much enjoying the show, though as with all things mystery box, I very much expect them to face-plant the landing on this. There's no way next week's reveal will be anything other than massively underwhelming and probably a little nonsensical as well.

Yeah they've name dropped the "real Borg" at least once. I think it's some kind of alliance between Locutus and the Changelings. Unfortunately I'm afraid Shaw's storyline might resolve in such a confrontation 😢

_"I think the door being red is apt, as it's almost literally a red herring."_ That is next-level story-telling if that is the case. It has been said by those whom have been able to watch the whole series in advance that every Easter egg in this series pays off. We've heard Locutus mentioned in a prior episode.

This has nothing to do with the Borg or Pah-Wraiths. Somehow Jack has a form of the Changelings about him. The voices are from The Great Link of all the Changelings is my prediction. Vadic didn't care about the Pah-Wraiths or the Borg, she only cared about her kind.

It was a terrific episode and I still hold on to my theory when they open the red door they will find Q. I know there is speculation the Par Rath are controlling Jack but that makes no sense as Picard never encountered them. The Q make much more sense. Also the it was shown the Changlings are only working for the real Big Bad so it will be interesting to find out who or what is controlling them.

Great review Im annoyed they killed off Lt Kneev the Vulcan, especially because Riker did it to stop Deanna being tortured . Ensign Griggs death and others are very sad. But you reminded me that the death Vadik and the destruction of the Shriek was fulfilling- even though only episode 8. The way that the Captain said finish that ship and Seven/9 shrieked Fire Everything We Got!!! was in a way to honor all those lost. Great episode Great review Hope the Enterprise D shows up. Hope Kirk does too. Shucks, I hope Sub Cmdr Sela shows up considering Picard is into Romulan women now.

Okay so quick run down. There was 3 villans Lore, Vadic, & Ghostrider ( floating flaming head) now just 1. Ghostrider. Some people may say Vadic should be able to survive in space because of Laas he was a space flying creature when we met him so let's say the new feature to mimick human tissue is a weakness in open space. I haven't done it but has anyone looked to see when Vadic was talking to Ghostrider and when Jack was having visions? Do they coincide? Could Jack or the entity in Jack also be the floating head vadic talks to? Jack may not know or realize it. If and evil entity that hates the Federation reaching out with it's mind find a person who hates Starfleet because their father chose that family over a real one...that entity could feed that and feed of it. Then why do they need Picards remains...maybe the Irumodic Syndrome is a road block and this entry needed someone to examine a physical piece of it to cure it...toncure Jack to take total control of Jack.....or the Irumodic is what let's Jack use the entity's powers and the entity wants that to stop. Everyone like to pick up on the set the world on fire and other things but Jack saying he is so clever slight of word not of hand like a cut off hand of a changling....maybe Jack is fooling everyone and he is the villan!

I don't think Vadic is gone, remember she and the others were experimented on and if i recall correctly it showed in Vadic's flashback that the scientist was cracking apart chunks of frozen changeling on a metal pan of some sort. Who Is The Face?Is it that simple? do you not recognize the voice of the face? It's exactly the Borg voice. It seems that the face - Voldemort - and Jack in connection with Picard's dead body is the last resort to bring the evil Borg back to life. More exciting the question, who helped the Borg to have the Changelings to help them?
