0:48 I like how Kirk sort of reluctantly approaches Spock, and his body language even from behind suggests he thinks this situation is surreal and he's going to be able to talk his way out of it. But when Spock does a little jump towards him, Kirk immediately reacts and his stance instantly transforms to High Alert Combat Mode. Was William Shatner directed to perform like this, or it is something he just did? If you look for it, you start to see a lot of under-appreciated little moments in Star Trek: TOS like this, small actions and expressions that bring a level of realism into this otherwise fantastical series.

spock is more than 10 times human strength pound for pound. That is why the genetic warrior kahn was defeated by spock, as they had nearly identical strength with spock being one more human stronger (11 times human strength). And is also why spock and kahn cave in things when they punch them. klingons are stronger than human on average because of their size and height and bruteness although pound for pound is closely comparable to human strength with slight augmentation or enhancement of miniscule degree, human strength isn't all that bad, humans are missing extra musclulature that gorillas and chimpanzees have , extra sets of muscles, this is why a gorilla can bench press half a school bus and a human usually cannot -even with the mass, weight, and adrenaline being equal unless spirit power is used and the word and frequency could do it alone by command given the faith. For jesus said if you have the faith of a mustard seed, you could say to the mountain be moved and it shall. A mustard seed is built into it instruction to grow to an immense proportion tree, yet is very tiny.

I don't think Pon Farr works like that. From what I understand, it doesn't matter if the female wants the male or not. If the male wants her, the Pon Farr won't go away until either the male and female have sex, or the male gets it out of his system by fighting potential rivals. Or even by fighting the female herself if she has no champion. If she loses and he still has the fever, she must submit to him. But usually by the time the fighting is over, the blood fever goes away and male returns to normal.

So many plot points brought up in a single episode and written so well too. Once again the Vulcan hierarchy punishing Spock for being half-human. His betrothed punishing him for not being around so he could hang out with yet more humans. His betrothed selecting a human challenger, forcing him to either choose her or choose to hang with humans. T'Pau, knowing "outworlders" wouldn't know Vulcan custom, neglecting to tell them the challenge was too the death. McCoy in response making the potion sound like it would compensate for human "weakness" preying upon T'Pau's ego for Vulcan superiority ("the air is the air"). T'Pring's sudden gratification that she had logically manipulated Spock, which turned into shock when he readily dumped her for her lack of logic for wanting Stonn. ("wanting is not the same as having"). T'Pring's attempt to manipulate the situation to her liking failed. She didn't get Spocks house, his wealth or his lands, she got only Stonn, I suspect was a Vulcan commoner. As T'Pring said, she wanted both. The money and the man. I have a feeling Stonn didn't last very long after this ritual was done. Very little in television is written this well today. Rich in story, tons of nuance.
@christianealshut1123 Жыл бұрын
Well, as far as the "B" canon of ST is concerned, Spock turns out to be right - the marriage between Stonn and T'Pring is not a happy one. I think in one of the stories Stonn dies trying to induce ponfarr - which proves that initially, the concept for Vulcans was only to be able (and driven) to mate every seven years. But coming to think of it - this must be Spock's first ponfarr, otherwise he would be fully married already, so I assume that in the classical series, he may appear to be a man in his mid-thirties to early forties, while by Vulcan standards he would be considered a teenager...I also think that ponfarr is an evolutionary adaptation that kicked in after Vulcans assumed the "pure logic" teachings of Surak - they needed to make the mating drive an overriding one to ensure Vulcans would continue mating at all! It also seems that according to the initial concept, men would experience the more violent version of ponfarr, while women seemed to be even more ruled by logic (which is perhaps also why the decision whether there will be a kalifee or not lies with them, not the men). However, they later did muddy the waters by suggesting that women could have the violent symptoms as well (T'Pol in Enterprise), the other races could be "infected" with it as well (Torres in Voyager) snd that the kalifee was a means to "dissipate" the ponfarr (likewise in Voyager).
