Adding the battery is what gave me a good discount back when I bought mine from a comic shop in 2002. Because as it turned out, the batteries were just low, it was fine otherwise. Clerk was sure it didn't work anymore, so I got it for 5 bucks. Still got it! Had I known you were looking for one, could've sent it to ya.

Maybe someday I'll get them out and with thanks to Michael, I'll be more willing to experiment with getting to know their inner workings and seeing what I could do.

I remember seeing those Phasers at TRU for $8 a piece. The power pack on mine wouldn't hold and kept slipping out and I kept thinking-just buy another and never did! Also if you read Cinefantastique` magazine in the early `90's they showed some behind the scenes diagrams and that phaser had the nick-name The "Macho" Phaser which is also a cool name for it.

Very glad this was stored correctly and you didn't have to perform a full teardown🖖. Very cool that you have all the major designs of the Type II phasers (and Type I for the Diamond Select & Wand flavors, of course) from Trek Classic. The secondary market prices for that The Wand Company phaser have gotten absurd.

Nice restoration! I grew up on the Playmates line and this is one of the cosplay items I never managed to get. I always believed the Phaser designs changed so much, despite being largely functionally the same because somewhere in Starfleet someone was getting rediculous kickbacks to keep posting contracts for replacements.

Fascinating... (In my best Spock voice.) 🖖 In a bit of kismet, just today I found a '83 BD TIE Fighter in a bin of vintage SW toys at a comic show. The battery cover was missing, but otherwise complete. There was no corrosion on the battery contacts, they were bright. So I picked it up for $25 (a steal imho). Got it home and popped batteries in and as expected, light but no sound. Quick and easy restoration to just open it up carefully and exercise the motor until it ran on its own. I think we both got a win! I like easy restorations! Now just to track down a battery cover and its one more piece in my vintage collection collected.👌

Wow! I feared it would be swollen from the two batteries that had leaked like a sieve inside of the phaser. I'm glad it wasn't a horror show. Quick go purchase a lottery ticket!😂 As for the plastic yellowing on the Terror Drome . I solved a similar issue with my Robotech Valkyrie that was yellowed. I used a mixture of water, pinesol and bleach and let the parts sit in the mixture for a couple of hours. Checking on it as I feared the chest and wings might dissolve. Amazingly it worked. I'm not sure what the ratio was as I did not measure. Also, I let it soak outside as the smell was awful. Best of luck on getting the yellowing out it.

"Still got to figure out what this is all about." *Slides the top portion forward* The Assault Phaser was designed to house a much smaller Type-1 phaser within that compartment that slides open and close. While the prop featured the sliding motion, the Type-1 phaser was scrapped from the final prop. In the scene from Star Trek V where Kirk and his landing team are gearing up in the shuttle, a crew member on the left can be seen sliding the top portion back and forth like he would a regular pistol. Factory Entertainment is currently working on making a replica of the phaser that will not only feature a fully functioning removable Type-1 Phaser, but they're also going to have the slide portion retract with the touch of one of the levers to more accurately reflect a real pistol (The Master Replicas had the lever pop the slider open).

I might also suggest car battery corrosion cleaners that you can get at auto parts stores for really bad corrosions. They spray out in a foam so you kind of have to spray it on a toothbrush or spray some into a cup and dip cotton swabs into it to not make a mess, but it works really well. Lucky they didn't use Duracell batteries in these. I dunno what it is, but after having bought tons of used electronics at thrift stores over the past 12+ years coppertops are the WORST about blowing and leaking everywhere. Here lately if a toy or electronic uses the standard "bump & spring" battery contacts I have just started replacing them if they are really badly corroded. It requires disassembly and some very basic soldering (usually just 2 wires), but it often is less time consuming overall than soaking / cleaning contacts if they are really bad. I can get a fresh supply of battery contacts all day long out of toys at local thrift shops. Just gotta take a screwdriver in with you so you can check them before buying them. I often get toys for .59 to .99 cents that have 4 or more contacts in them. Got a pretty good stockpile built up now. It's also handy for toys where speakers have gone bad as many times they are fairly easily replaced as well!
@jonacheson Жыл бұрын
DeoxIT electronic contact cleaner does a really good job as well. Also, Duracell Pro batteries are the worst, I think every single one I bought exploded inside something valuable.
