I actually kind of like that they never got into the details of her species. We know she’s old, smart, hates the Borg, and Q isn’t a fan, that’s about it. She apparently has a great deal of mental toughness since she didn’t crack up in this episode, but it’s not treated like a “power”.

Hello Jen!😊 You might have heard the story that it was Whoopi Goldberg (Guinan) that approached the people involved in the series to appear on the show. They thought she was joking. I never remembered this as a bad episode, but I guess in the season 4 shuffle, I had forgotten how *good* this one was. It's a rather perfect Star Trek episode as there was no villain, but a lot of tension, and the crisis is resolved by communication and cooperation.
@Omegafire17Ай бұрын
I don't know how the 80's audience thought about it, but nowadays - with all the research into neurological, mental, and other kinds of illnesses - people are far more likely to know that this episode's progression is quite grounded, and very, very real (even if the situation that created it is fantastical). And that just makes it even scarier, even if you've not had first-hand experience with it in some form, which heightens the impact of the story.

@redpillfreedom6692Ай бұрын
Not necessarily. "Eyes in the dark" could simply be the closest their language can come to an English interpretation. When Marco Polo first saw monkeys, he described them as "men with tails" because he had never seen a monkey before and no term had yet been invented for the animal. He only knew they somewhat resembled humans and they had tails, so "men with tails" was the best he could do at the time.
