12:33 That actually was supposed to be a toilet with the lid down. The "Do not use while in spacedock" was supposed to be like the signs on old train toilets which just basically dumped human waste onto the tracks (you didn't want human waste on the tracks in the train station).

As for your videos: thank you and anybody else that makes closed captioning possible in your content. The one thing I will always remember about Star Trek 5 is that I saw it as part of a Paramount end of summer double feature. The other Paramount film was Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade. After 1989, the studios stopped offering these double feature bills. So Star Trek 5 and Last Crusade was the last modern film double feature I ever saw.

The feline species was featured in the animated series which was written by the writers of the original show. Those writers considered the cartoons a continuation of the show and cannon. There was a feline navigator that often sat next to Sulu as a replacement for Walter Koenig since he wasn't able to appear in the series. And the species did appear in the novelization of The Search for Spock.

I honestly like all the TOS movies. To me it's great to see them be a bit more silly as time goes on, after all their adventures, to see these guys, now being way older, just enjoy their friendships while getting some of the weirdest things going in all of Trek. It truly feels like old friends coming together to do what they love.

Mike's face is priceless at 27:41 :D Actually I think Star Trek V isn't that bad movie. Of course, it's full with bullshit, the effects are bad, but the plot is really interesting. It feels like an episode from TOS, because the crew of the Enterprise looking for the unkwnown. And it represents the friendship between Kirk, Spock and McCoy beautifully. And you guy's didn't mention the music, composed by the great Jerry Goldsmith. You can say anything about the movie, but you have to admit, the score is fantastic. By the way, great Rental episode as always. Can't wait for the next one :D

The effects are only bad because ILM did dn't do them this time. So the whole Special Effects work had to be... "outsourced" and this is what we got. Jerry Goldsmith wrote a FANTASTIC and touching soundtrack for the film and imho still one of the best Star Trek soundtracks there is.

I loved Star Trek 5. It was the only movie my family had on VHS when I was growing up, and it might have been my introduction to the original cast. Afterwards, I rented the some of the other movies, and enjoyed those too, but V always has a special place in my heart, and a lot of nostalgia. As an objective adult, I can recognize it for what it is, but even some of its flaws can be endearing.

Star Trek V has some very nice character moments, but no doubt the Special Effects budget really hurt it as the visuals simply can't keep up with the story. Also there is some very uninspired editing, although that may reflect the limitations of the footage that was filmed. It's an admirable failure, yet I always find it rewatchable.

12:21 I'm fairly sure that scene actually *was* intended as a toilet joke. From the suspiciously flush-like position of the button tongue-in-cheek spoof of the messages you see in bathrooms on trains and airplanes. It's a somewhat immature and very out of place joke for Star Trek, but considering this particular movie in general, it's par for the course.

If you ask me, Star Trek V sounds like a fan film, that blew what budget it had on hiring the actual the actors. And the director decided to quit mid way through and William Shatner just turned it into something that would do on the weekends.

HACK THE MOVIES My understanding was that Sam Hamm, the original writer, wrote multiple drafts before the strike happened. The WGA strike happened just as Production started, which meant Hamm could not do any rewrites on the Final Draft he had ultimately turned in, and the Producers hired Warren Skaaren to handle all the production rewrites.

Just wanted to say I'm REALLY enjoying this new series of Rental Reviews. I am not a huge gamer at all; I enjoy the AVGN videos but many of the other playthrough type ones are not for me. However the movie focussed horror and rental review videos are excellent, particularly the effort put into the VHS-ised local video library advert at the start of these. Keep em up!

I believe they reference the "God" entity in Star Trek TNG. Season 1 if memory serves. Forget the plot points but they end of at the center of the galaxy and an identical type alien appears only this one is good. Go figure.
