Things I liked most about Lineage: the Doctor's chipper announcement that he could fix B'Elanna's baby who had a spinal curvature whilst simultaneously announcing the baby's gender. A priceless reaction by Robert Picardo. "So it's a girl, Doc?" "You... can not infer that."

Dear Lord! Where has this VOY been?! An actual tightly-focused character piece with absolutely no "ship in danger" plot, no needlessly aggressive villain aliens-of-the-week, minimal techno-babble and an honest-to-God moral dilemma that stems from established character traits?! I thought that ship has long since sailed with this show. And to have it here, in the middle of Season Seven? Wonders never cease! Sorry, but Season Seven, as a whole, is easily my least favorite of VOY. This is the best episode since "Mortal Coil" (my hands down favorite of VOY). This show didn't give us many truly top-notch quality outings, but this is definitely one of them. 10 out of 10 all the way!

I love this episode. But the last time I watched it, it wasn't the baby plot that touched me. It was the fact that, without hesitation, B'elanna asked the Doctor to be the godfather at the end of the episode. I can scarce think of anything more accepting of you as a person than that.

I'm surprised you didn't mention the teaser. With Ichep jumping to the conclusion that the life form within B'lanna, was a parasite. It was simltanously funny and sad at the same time. It says that too spite his advanced intelligence and understanding of genitcs, Ichep is till very much a naive you man, who still doesn't quite a bit of the human condition.

Considering certain events and bombshells revealed to me in the last week of my life the timing of the review for this episode is scary insane XD

would what they did with "Kahless" in STO be illegal in the federation?

Thank you, family_ is_ who you choose, I've been saying so for *years!* I would object to people crowding all over me with hints, folk wisdom and orders to take time off or whatever if I was a parent to be and I'm grateful for Tuvok's restraint and discretion. I can understand totally why B'Elanna wants her child to be just like everybody else, but where did she learn gene sequencing, let alone how to lock everyone out of sickbay _and_reprogram the Doctor? Lorerunner, I'm sure you're the best and the proudest uncle in the whole universe!

I don't think Chakotay was a father figure to Torres. Maybe something more like the big brother she never had.

I also really like this episode, it's one of the rare character episodes without some threat of the week tossed in, and I wish Voyager had done more like that. As to the season as a whole, I consider seasons 3, 4 and 5 the best, and 6 and 7 are below them (I'm not sure which of the two I like better). And since you brought up how you enjoy season 7, I'd like to say that, for me, season 7 is very "meh": most of the episodes are just something that occupies 45 minutes of time, just barely entertaining enough no to be boring.

I came here hoping you agreed with me that this was the most awful episode. Oh well... lol. God I thought this one was so dumb. The kids that she says were so horrible to her played a single prank on her and apologized profusely instantly. I thought the acting when she starts explaining her relationship with her dad was bad or the script was bad or something just didnt feel real. It wasnt all bad but something just really felt off this whole episode to me I guess.

I can't get over her making a unilateral decision to genetically manipulate her child without discussing it with the other parent. Also violating the doctor's program, which is morally rephenensible if you think about it, ruins the character for me. Could have been a nice touching episode. I guess we can't expect too much from the character who broke a coworker's nose and then was promoted the next day.
