Wow so, this was kicked off KZbin for a few years and then magically reappeared a few weeks ago. Thank you Disney? I'm so happy to see so many people enjoying it. When me and my good friend Paul Odgren made this together back in 2015, we thought it'd get like 514 views. It's been amazing to see the response over the years. Thank you all for watching. ❤

15:15 At first, I didn’t like the change to Maul’s ”death” but the lethal efficiency of it and how we would have reacted to seeing Mail in two pieces as he fell changed my mind. It was a more vicious death in this version. One slip in a lightsaber duel and you’re done. It showed the lethality of a lightsaber.

I agree. Having Obi hanging on with Maul just looking at him, only to flip over him and cut him in half while he just derpily takes it? Yeah.. this is much better. The acting and line readings are still pretty laughable, but hey, what are you gonna do?

Obviously the original dialogue in that scene sucked, but the problem with fan edits is that it was not possible to substitute good dialogue. As a result, the story line is just left even more underdeveloped than in the original. Similarly, the mute Jar Jar just seems like a recurring joke for the fans. He sucked as a character, but removing all his lines is almost as bad as his racist stereotype of a Jamiacan accent.

@@Jeyeyeyey It's it partly generational - the originals were seen by their original audiences as basically just a bit of fun (it was the first big budget kids film in the 1970s since Wonka; for the most part films like Star Wars were cheap school holiday ephemera...until 1977, with some cod-bollocks about the force (the 1980 Flash Gordon was made in the style that most people in 1977 thought Star Wars was intended!*) - since then the francshise has morphed into the braindead vacuous claptrap that takes it's own inane nonsense seriously. That's bound to create a bit of an audience schism...... *Now you can understand the SW Holiday special a little better. Of course, it's still terrible....but at least explicable. Unlike the Guardians of the Galaxy one..... Nb. errrr.....they are bloated and badly paced. Even defenders usually concede the blindingly obvious.....

I love the edit, but I would’ve kept in the scene where Palpatine manipulates Padme into holding a vote of confidence it’s by far the most important scene in that entire movie and I’d say of the best parts of it. not to mention is a natural Segway to them leaving for Naboo. As it happens in the edit, they just kind of leave after arriving.

Yeah, I've kinda pictured that movie in my head as well... My take would be to do a version of the classic Romulus & Remus myth about brotherly betrayal (or sisters, doesn't rlly matter) as an origin-story for the Jedi and the Sith. Set on some primitive backwater planet bereft of modern technology (to set up the swords & knights stuff for later) and then maybe introduce a hostile, more advanced alien species they have to go up against (before turning on each other), so that's how lightsabers enter into the story.

Amazingingly edited, I've all films ,watched like most many times ,this was very enjoyable ...many thanks 🙏👍 So when Obi Wan (at 1:21:39) jumps down to face General Grievous and says :- "HELLO THERE" This two word welcome came about from a teacher of ours. . He's from Liverpool and good mate of mine, before he was Adidas VP Europe, he was our lecturer in Business Studies ('88-90) working for a college we attended. . He (T) had nicknames for all us 16yr olds on course , I was 'Nick the Man' and he was a comedic talented educated fella, whom welcomed late comers to class with... "HELLO THERE" , it was remembered by other class mates, one whom went on to write ✍️ and wrote parts of the script for LUCAS in USA. He remembered our lecturer T and his "Hello There " and so used it for Ewans portrayal of Obi Wan... "Hello There ...."

Even truncated to 2 hours or so, the dialogue between Anakin and Padme cringes to the depths of my soul. Now that it appears they won't take it down, I might make my own version with just action and literally no dialogue except Yoda and C-3PO.

Decent edit. It made Anakin and Palpatine's relationship make a little more sense, and emphasized Anakin's concern for Padme. A bit action-heavy for me. I would have omitted the ending where we see Padme giving birth and naming the twins. It would have been more surprising in the original trilogy to find out that not only is Anakin alive, but his children also survived. We also could have assumed Leia grew up with Padma for a time, which would have made her line about remembering her mother in Return of the Jedi make sense. That said...when all you've got is lemons, it's hard to make anything more than lemonade. Anakin and Obi-wan's dialogue in Revenge of the Sith is still painful. Anakin's inane reason for turning to the Dark Side and his apparent stupidity are still there. Still would love to see the Topher Grace edit. 😎

I remember watching this back years ago and thought it was great...and it still is, but I now see that some of the things from Episode I that should be re-edited into it like the pod race which is a great way to show Anakin's force abilities as well as some of the ground battle and the space battle on Naboo...not a lot but just a little for the context of the feud between the Trade Federation and the planet of Naboo. I still love the edit on the Kenobi and Maul part at the end. Kenobi was pissed and the edit shows it well. Well done by all involved over the years of this fan edit.

Would make 3 changes: padme being convinced to hold a vote of no confidence which causes palpatine to become supreme chancellor. Thats the most important scene in the first movie. Anakin and padmes romance needs way more scenes for it to be earned. Add the scene where they are playing in the field BEFORE the scene they kiss on the balcony. (It just seems like they kiss out of nowhere in this version). Keep their marriage scene in also. Then we would understand Anakins anguish when she is dying. When Darth Vader finds asks if Padme is alive and says NOOO. That was too tragic and iconic to cut out.

I’m sorry, but I honestly don’t understand why so many people in the comment section seem to think this hack job is any good. You’ve cut out so much that there’s barely anything left but plot holes. I’m less than an hour in, and there’s been no introduction of the Neimoidians, Maul, Jar Jar, Jango, or Dooku. Jango and Dooku’s names at least come up, but who are they and why are we hearing about them out of nowhere? With the removal of character introductions, and the removal of many characters and events altogether, the actions of the principal characters become totally unmotivated. Now, things just happen for no reason. Why do Padme and the Jedi attack the palace on Naboo? Why does a handmaiden suddenly start giving orders? Why does Padme take a leave of absence? Why is Anakin ordered to protect her? How did Anakin know to visit the Lars homestead? Why do they go to Geonosis? Where did the clone army come from? The greatly increased time compression further confuses things. Someone who’d never seen the prequels as they originally were would never be able to follow this haphazard mess. I’m sorry to be so critical of your work, but it doesn’t seem like much thought is behind it besides “Gungans suck.” You haven’t fixed the prequels in any way. You’ve made them much, much worse.

The evidence of how few, if any, writers of Star Wars ever served in the military, is so evident in how, in order to show military importance, especially in the clone wars stuff and later, is to make important people Generals, even if they are just kids, but their generals still go on missions alone, and don't do what generals do in a military chain of command. If Empire Strikes Back was written today, Luke and Han wouldn't be a commander, and a captain, they would be Generals, bc that's the rank writers give you if you are really important to the story...Generals don't go looking for hand to hand combat, they study history, make military policy and training decisions, and plan attacks and defensive actions...

This is a nice thing for people who don't like the prequels Me personally I do like the prequels So l like the thought of helping people enjoy the prequels that don't And I liked the video and subscribed because of that But Anakin being a slave is very important because it shows the tragedy It shows that even tho he has this horrible life he's still innocent And is still a good person who wants to help people Having the fight between Darth maul and at the beginning is cool but it ruins the important meaning of the scene This fight is the FATE of anakins legacy having it at the very start of the movie in dose that because you don't know how important this fight is because you haven't witnessed qui-gon fighting for anakin to be trained by him and to be set free Taking away the scene where anakin says he hates sand Is taking away the tragedy of him being a slave However because he's not shown as a slave in this movie I guess it works But it makes it slightly more unlikely he would turn to the dark side Another thing missing is the clone scene this is very important it explains the clones and the clone war Another thing missing is anakin not being granted rank of master he needs this to save padme so that is the most important scene in ROTS Look I appreciate the hard work but Context is everything If the things you don't like are missing the story no longer makes sense because of context

I just watched this beginning to end the other day. I will have to say an excellent edit job was done. Over six hours was masterfully condensed down to about 2 hours of the downfall of Anakin Skywalker. I would think George Lucas would be appreciative of this Fan Edit.

This is legit a good movie with this edit. Now, I'm one of those people who grew up with the prequels as a kid, so I'll always view them through nostalgic rose goggles (kinda like the older people do now with Episode 6), so I've always enjoyed Episodes 2 and 3 and I always will. I think Episode 3 is a good film, nostalgia or not. It's certainly the one that tugs on my heartstrings the most, out of both trilogies. The Phantom Menace is such a mess, however. I loved it when I went to see it with my family as a 9 year old kid, but I just can't stomach it now that I'm an adult. What you see from Episode 1 in this edit are (with one or two exceptions) the things that can be salvaged from that movie. Now it's 2018, and Disney has made the terrible and uninspiring Episodes 7 and 8, not including Rogue One (which I enjoyed - it gets a 7/10 from me). I'm catching Ep 8 on bluray, but I don't personally know many people who left the theatre even remotely satisfied. From the internet's reaction, I think something a friend said to me: "If you don't like 7, you won't like 8" is pretty much true, and Episode 7 is not good. The effects are neat, but it is so bloody uninspiring and the main character so uninteresting, it just sucks across the board. Just the way they wasted the old cast... Now that we've seen what Disney, Brutus-Kathleen Kennedy and Jar-Jar Abrams have done to the new trilogy (lore-wise, if nothing else), I think I'm not alone in thinking "Gee, I wish it was Lucas making the new trilogy instead". Gee, I wish it was Lucas making the new trilogy instead.

Thanks for the fanedit. My personal preference is starting at 45:30 onwards. Right to the action and a starting crawl can explain the background briefly enough. That's just me.

I think the failure of the prequels was that they *told* us things rather than *showing* us things. I think if we had less exposition and more things in the background, they would have been much better. What if the Republic just kind of built a Clone army because the Separatists had, instead, already built up a droid army and declared war by Episode 2? We wouldn't need to see the Kamino plot. We would just see things work well if we, perhaps, heard Clones talking about training or battles. They're Clones, but they're still people. They talk. They have relationships. A movie *following* a squad of Clones through the war would be pretty nice, or at least, a portion of a movie following certain Clones through the war would be pretty nice. The Clone Wars animated series itself was pretty nice because it added a lot more humanity to the characters we'd seen before, and that was one of the major reasons why it was so well-received, at least from what I can tell. This is an excellent fan edit, and remains loyal to things that matter. We don't see Jar Jar as a comical idiot, but we do see him take on a serious role. Jar Jar doing serious things is kind of nice. We see Anakin's emotions get the better of him, while still seeing him a bit troubled by questioning his morals and his beliefs. We sort of really do see him seduced by the Dark Side, but not in such a horrible, painstakingly long manner.

Yes episode 1 had too much CGI and Jar Jar Binks, pretty annoying. Then the Jedi were too complacent and not aware of the dangers of a Sith in their presence.

Not a good idea changing the quality of the movie such as zoom-in that you can't see the action you don't know what's going on, ugly sound, backwards, missing action that you cut the scene to shortening the good story. Instead of destroying the quality it might as well put it in the small screen size without changing all those quality as I mentioned. The KZbin, movie seller, website movie pay won't say anything because it's already in an ugly small screen size movie. The upload quality of the movie is excellent. If those qualities were degraded no one will watch it unless if somebody is desperately want to watch even though couldn't understand what's going on just to kill the time lol. Editorbinks, thnx for that excellently, smartly, beautiful upload.

I get where you're coming from, but to include Shmi, they would've had to include a whole bunch of Tatooine stuff, such as the podrace. Ultimately, seeing Anakin's reaction to her death is all the story really needs. However, in a different world where the prequels had been written better, Shmi should have had more done with her character, I agree!

Agreed. The brevity of it really gave the action that much more of an impact. Even opens up the quick victory up to the interpretation that Obi had to tap into a sliver of the dark side to get that rage-induced edge for the quick win. Of course, that's just me thinking too deeply into it. Buuut...even with that, that's essentially a apart of the point of these sort of things also!

Back in 1983 when fans were trying not to be disappointed by ROTJ (blame Ep V for raising the bar), I can remember fandom working out the only way to save the trilogy was a prequel making the entire story about Annakin's fall. Lucas obviously read that far.....or forgot the rest until his divorce rekindled his interest in the earnings potential of some new toy advertising feature films.....

I hooked up to a lungfish (prehistoric animal) about 3 feet long orange belly dark green back in the OBI OBI river west of nambour Queensland Australia before all these star wars movie's came out. It's a Living fossil, I think they nose around the rocks for what ever comes their way, bugs overcome with car exhaust fumes blown by the wind ,it's a feeding frenzy behind car drivers who are just doing what everyone else is doing and lungfish excrement gets into the milk and crops . The subtlety of the force at work continues.
