Hard disagree with so many saying it is too slow, or could have been done in 2-3 episodes. Look at the detail. Look at the characters they are creating here. FEEEL that tension. My god you can cut it with a knife. You've got 4 storylines all building to a common endpoint, and each one of them is super high-stakes.

It's too random to be random is an actual thing, notably in computer programming. If you roll six-sided die (1d6 for all my D&D fans) say 100 times, there are going to stretches where the same number or pairs of numbers or sequences of numbers will show up. Now if you program that into a computer and that happened, you might be tempted to change it so no number repeats back to back--but that's not truly random. A truly random sequence will at times produce patterns on small enough scale.
@ISavant2 жыл бұрын
yup, benford's law is often used in forensic accounting to uncover fraud because when fraudsters use fake information to cover up their theft/crime whatever, they don't take into account that randomness isn't as random as you think. Like a coin flip is always going to be 50/50 but that doesn't mean getting heads 10 times in a row isn't random.

I don’t think slow means lots of detail or a methodical, necessary build up. Consider a least a few things we should already know at this point: 1. What happened to Andor’s friends? 2. What does Andor want to do after this? 3. What money is being discussed between Mon Montha and Rael (I had to look up Skarsgard name!) 4. What are they stealing? 5. Why? This isn’t traditional storytelling, but I’m still intrigued because hey, it’s Star Wars baby and the acting is great. But this is an exceptionally slow burn. I respect everyone that disagrees.

I don't know, I don't see how people think this is poorly paced. Every scene builds upon the last and builds on the overall plot. Within this episode, we see how anxious the leaders of the rebellion are; while we see Cassian and the rest of the team getting ready and slowly revealing how under prepared they actually are. Then we lay the foundation for Syrill making his return and getting a position in the Empire. There's no scene here being wasted or that I would consider to cut out in my opinion

I'm really liking the slow burn of this show. Star Wars desperately needed a character-driven show where you could see the day-to-day life of people who live in the universe and actually come to care about what happens to them lol. The payoff with the action next week will feel great. The pacing also lends itself to building tension very well. The Empire feels like a real, tangible threat for the first time in ages. If these guys make one mistake the consequences will be dire. You really feel the weight of that.

You can argue that the pacing was really slow in the First Arc (the first 3 episodes) and I would be inclined to agree. But so far, with the Second Arc, the pacing has been near to perfect. This show is finally fleshing out the Star Wars universe in a way that feels unique to the franchise. The only complaint I have is that they are using a complex level of English in the dialogues. You can expect that from the Imperials, but the rebels? I don't know.

@TonyAurum2 жыл бұрын
Not exactly sure what would be considered filler within the episodes. The writers are laying down the foundation for the climax. You have to understand that in order for the climax to hit properly, the characters need to be able to have understood motivations and clear stakes. We wouldn't care about Cassian or the rest of the team if they didn't introduce them properly or if they presumably bring back Karn we need that backstory and his motivations at home to properly see why he's so hateful towards Cassian.

So what, no need for the story. 3.Rich couple car ride --got nothing new out of that. 4.Blonde girl working for the empire --this one I know is somewhat necessary, but bloody hell can you make those scenes more boring? Luckily she only had a really short scene.

The problem, as I see it after 5 episodes, is that the show needs to be edited down or focused on a couple of characters or storylines per episode. Why bother with Mon Mothma, Dedra, and Syrill in the prior episode if you give them seemingly only two minutes of screen time after a compelling setup from episode 4? Focus on Mothma and Syrill in episode 5 and end with 10 minutes of the preparation for the rebel attack in episode 6. This series needs to be edited differently. You can serve both a deep dive into characters and world-building while building excitement and anticipation. Star Wars is highly influenced by Dune. And we saw in Denis Villeneuve's Dune that the world is a more mature version of Star Wars. But since this is television, there needs to be more focus on characters, not wasting time on long walks of scenery or overly long headshots that don't add much to personality. Episode 4 was really compelling and created much anticipation. After last week's episode, I looked forward to the show continuing to pick up the pace. I looked forward to the dinner with Mon Mothma and the Imperial aristocracy. I expected to learn more about the plan with Andor and the rebels as they prepared to rob the imperial payroll. But I did not need to see them walk the Scottish highlands for 25 minutes. This episode was poorly paced, added little or nothing to the characters' depth, and, in my opinion, a little letdown.
