It was my brothers birthday Yesterday and my 10 year old twin cousins came to visit. I asked then what their favorite game was and then they said "Starwars battlefront", i immediately replied with a very serious "Which One!" and they said "The EA one" I was fucking horrified, I was so horrified that i actually gave them my old Battlefront 2 on disk for them to play on the PC because there is no way i'm letting them and other Young kids grow up on utter piles of shit like EA's battlefront and thinking it's good, i just hope that he's playing it and can see that it's better than the new one. +Worth A Buy Just watched the Review and you are so right, it's so fucking fluid!, the sniper rifle in this game has no cross hair when hip firing but i could still hit the arse hair of a fly from across the map with it. Same with the Fighters, i like to play the Tie intercepter and when you fire the guns they just all hit because the controls are so good, Such a rewarding an Immersive game and it's shocking that modern FPS shooters are just so shit now, In todays day an age even without multiplayer i would still give it a 9.5/10 where as EA's pile of bantha piss a 1/10.

do what i do man and cultivate a good size local group and then host youre own game. when i do it i usally get enough for a good competitive game. eg 10 +players, if youre battlefront craving ever gets too much just keep an eye out and join mine,(the latency will still probably be shit but it will be better than a us server) trust me most of the people who play my games are old school and are battlfont pros so either way youre gonna get a good game.

Fun Fact for you Mack, this game set a legal precedent in 2015, when EA shut down the official multiplayer servers and then used the DMCA to take down fan-hosted servers, they created a ruling that modifying a game, even if it is to restore functionality the publisher has taken out of it, is ILLEGAL and they have the right to shut down anyone who hosts servers for this game or any of their other games. The fact that there even are still servers up means they probably stopped DMCAing them all after their Battlefront EA wankpiece had its sales numbers covered. Thats right, when Battlefront EA came out, they DMCAed any multiplayer server that was hosted for this game, to drive the sales of their shite. And with the help of the american blabla regular (FCAA) *they set a legal precedent that now allows any publisher to take out any feature out of any game post-release and any fan who restores it is a criminal*. Beautifull isnt it? Thats why i havent bought or even pirated an EA game in ages, they are such leeches they'd willingly go back and strip features out of "their" game and fight legal wars just to hawk their newest sequel, even if it's utter shite compared to something over a decade old

@@andrejzizenstock9067 This comment aged really well, because in the meantime we've now seen activision literally murder Warcraft 3, making it so you cannot install or run the original game. All you can do even with your original disks is run "Warcraft 3 Reforged" which is a poorly optimized webapp running on a chrome surface. Runs like arse, and they stripped about 80% of all multiplayer features. Oh and they added new mandatory terms of service that literally give them ownership over any intellectual property you build with their editor. If the Dota makers were to release even one more update for Dota 1, Activision would start owning the Dota franchise. Adding that clause of forfeiting all ownership of custom maps to them was literally the biggest update in the 40€ re-release. Of course this also made all the old custom maps unplayable because they are in conflict with these terms. Publishers would like you to build their IP for them, for free, while you pay for their garbage.

The campaign is also so incredible and brutal. Holding the line on Kashyyyk, raiding the Jedi Temple, storming the Tantive IV. I remember the last part of Polis Massa where you had to capture a command post. The entire mission had been absolutely brutal, fighting for every inch towards the objective. This command post was already guarded by 30 rebels, who had infinite reinforcements, and you were given 20 men and 3 minutes to capture it and if you failed you started the whole thing over again. Good luck. And the narratives before each mission set the mood so well. This game is a fucking masterpiece.

.I want to say thank you to all of the patreons who voted this in for the next retro wab, you guys know what great fucking games are. And of course thank you to mack for giving it the wab it so desperately deserved. This is one of if not THE best star wars game ever created. For me its the best, for others its 1a 1b with a couple of others like jedi academy. This is what a great game looks like. I have been going back and playing matches offline in instant action for 12 years and it never gets old. The base game has everything that a star wars game should have but mods have really prolonged the life of bf2 and made it a lot more replayable. Mods that give you more eras, more units, vehicles, weapons, maps, heroes, villains and all that lovely stuff. The modders that have been dedicated to this game and have given us many hours of replayable fun over the years deserve all of the respect and thanks that the developers do. And one last thing, if anybody is actually thinking that EA's is gonna be better than this, I wish you the best of luck in believing in that. I have seen so many people getting hyped for it and saying it is gonna be the best thing since sliced bread just because there isn't going to be a season pass and that there is going to be more maps. I don't care how pretty the graphics are or how many people will be playing the multiplayer compared to the originals, you will play it for a couple months at most and never play it again. The originals just have something that always draws you back, regardless of multiplayer, and that is something EA's games do and will not have.

Major pro reviews gave Battlefront 2 2005 an average review. Both IGN and Gamespot gave it 7/10. Few gave it 8/10 and 9/10 but people love it years later. It's superior to the 2017 remake except for the graphics. I own the PS2 and the GOG version. Its a great game Vs the games coming out today when you can play single player campaign or instant action with choose you maps, game modes and characters. No Micro Transactions.

The best way I can compare modern AAA games vs unpolished but actually GOOD indies is a culinary comparison : Imagine your favorite low-brow Ma & Pa diner you order a steak and the presentation isn't fancy you might not get the best sides,but that steak will be just how you ordered it to the letter. That's a pretty much a good indie title. Now AAA ? : They're lost in some field somewhere spending gods know how long faffing about looking for that perfect sprig of parsley for garnish & presentation and they are going to market the hell out of their image ...The problem is they are garnishing a plate of old rancid wank. It may have wonderful top notch presentation but it's still disgusting, insulting and a terrible waste of time and money. Retro Gaming from the 80's just before the Xbox 360 went into full swing with the DLC and AAA got absurdly greedy / stupid : Ya got the steak and the presentation , it was a good run. Sadly those days are long over EA's Star Wars Battlefront is a beautifully garnished highly marketed steaming plate of hot sick.

I remember renting this game for the ps2 from blockbuster (happy memories). After the, at best, average game that was Battlefront EA, I decided to download the OG Battlefront 2 on Steam. Unfortunately for me, I've only ever played consoles games, so basic movement and aiming on PC is a huge hassle for me (and don't even get me started on my flying ability). Regardless, I'm having fun with the game. It truly was ahead of its time (as far as SW games go)

I never even played this game multiplayer, just spent upwards of 30 hours in the singleplayer galactic campaign mode and upwards of 100 hours in the original Battlefront playing instant action. And both games were amazing experiences, they both set a standard which any dev who cares about their craft should strive for.

To be honest, you were kinda wrong in terms of not being rewarded for playing longer. If you earn enough of a specific medals, you get an upgrade to your health, damage output, or weapon. You keep them when you hit the threshold, but if you're below it, you just keep the reward till you die. Forexample, snipers get a new rifle without travel time, which acts somewhat like the laser turret on the TX-130. Assault classes get a burst rifle, which will kill a regular infantry unit if you hit all 3 bullets from the burst on them instantly, and the pistol upgrade will grant you a magazine instead of an overheating mechanic, which has amazing damage output, and comes with a scope, even if you're third personing. So there are DEFINITELY rewards for playing longer.

I'll be honest, I definitely prefer Jedi Outcast multiplayer to the multiplayer in this one lol. Don't get me wrong, Battlefront is good fun, but you can't beat leaping around Bespin, having saber fights and blasting people off with rockets. Plus the shooting in Battlefront isn't very satisfying, it lacks punch I think. Maybe not a fair comparison though, because they are pretty different games.

Swbf2 with bots is 100x times more fun to me than the new shitefront in MP. Swbf2 had dept,it had good mechanics,it was an old school game in the sense that YOU played the game,win/lose,die/survive it was all on you,no unlocks,no unfair bullshit,no wallhax,no undogable aimbots ,just fluid combat that immersed you. The new shitefront is the EXACT oposite,it's the most dumbed down kid game I have ever played,half the guns dont even require you to have your monitor turned on to get kill with them,it's broken and utterly unfunctional controlls wise,everything is sluggish,buggy and just bloody awfull. Games like this is why bots are incredibly important in multiplayer games. People love to just discount them as unimportant and a waste of development yet look at how many really good multiplayer games have become completely unplayable due to a dead player base and not having bots. Well-made bots keeps multiplayer games running forever - and the games with really hard bots are even more of a challenge than the majority of competent players and learning the game to beat them is always satisfying. I can fire up a game like TimeSplitters, Quake 3, Unreal Tournament, Section 8: Prejudice or the SABot mod for Doom 3 and still have plenty of fun on my tod because of the excellent bot support those games provide. Yet the vast majority of modern games don't support bots whatsoever, companies are content with a game' multiplayer dying out completely just so people can pick up the next one in the series which just makes each entry feel more pointless than the last since they have no interest in preserving those experiences. I'll always give a thumbs up to companies that go out of their way to bring bots to the multiplayer modes of their games because that level of choice to play against players or AI is always appreciated and it just shows they really care about the game's longevity.

For those concerned about graphical fidelity, unlike modern games this game has amazing mod support and there are a number of HD graphics mods available to make it look much better. Yeah it's not going to look like EAs BF but it more than makes up for it in gameplay

mack I think there still not adding hangars in the new battlefront 2 it will probably be like battlefield 1 where you can spawn in one in the air randomly from the spawn screen. apparently they did this so you don't get spawned killed. I liked the old battlefront you could use the enemy vehicle even though it's not yours.

The sheer scope of the battles screams EPIC. This game will never get boring for me. Especially the space battles hopping into an x wing landing on a star destroyers hangar fighting on foot to their shield generator taking it out. Stealing a tie fighter to bail out. Great stuff

Well see, the problem with modern-day games is...... money. These corporations and publishers like Activision and EA invest millions of dollars into games, but they want all the fun to be on THEY'RE side, not ours, the consumers. They want to make the most amount of $$ but they don't want to get off their asses and earn it. They believe that bare-minimum effort is acceptable, when it's clearly not. When they believe that exerting the least amount of work possible, will make them the most amount of money possible, not only have they become lazy, but they also have become, "out of touch." Sure, the goal of every business is to make money, true, but a key factor behind that, that you dont hear about, is enjoying what you do. The dev team under Lucasarts back then were rabid, RABID star-wars fans, obviously because they made Star Wars games. They loved what they did, and put making quality games ABOVE making money. Nowadays, its the complete opposite, its all MONEY and no quality games.They brought us masterpieces like Battlefront 1 and 2, KOTOR 1 and 2, Jedi Knight academy 1 and 2, Jedi Power Battles, you name the rest. And its no surprise the first MODERN Battlefront was shit, when the standard has been set SO LOW, its easy to make a SLIGHTLY BETTER game, and say, "See, we really CAN make better games!!! Hur-durrr!!!! pre-order now!!!" The only way you'll ever get good games again is if you stop preordering, and stop buying into their bullshit. Period.

Don't disrespect you, or wanna attack you personally. But I didn't like this review. Played Battlefront 2 (2005) for around 100 hours on PC, and I agree with statements yes. But this feels more like a comparison then a review. Or a way for you to bash on 2015 Battlefront. Because after saying something good about Battlefront 2 (2005) you immediately just went about how bad 2015 is. Not saying 2015 is good, but just saying this review may not be an actual review...

I haven't played this game, but this looks like one of the less attractive AAA games of 2005. I'm only talking about gfx here. Compared to Fear, cod 2, or even 2004's doom 3, fc this looks pretty 2001-esque. Even the gun models. But man did FEAR look far better than any of its competition back then. It actually has better particle and ragdoll effects and Ai better than any game in 2017. Probably coz it was pc exclusive :p

The nice new things they added: Space battles, jedi control, improved conquest, ability to play as jawas, hoth snowmonster and other creatures, and simply the polish in controls and design... The stupid things? Reward Blaster. Once you play singleplayer long enough... Reward blaster unlocks; you're instantly OP. Stupid... still worth a buy though. Just disable it.

This is one of my favorite Titles ever. Owned it on PS2 and played the hell out of it! I haven't played the PC version so I havn't MODDED the hell out of it... I think ill go do that, THANKS MACK!

There is so much truth in this video. I still play this game all the time especially after i played the new battlefront. This game has been with me since my childhood. THIS is the best Star Wars game i have ever played!

Games back in the day : hours of fun game play , and possibly a good story , and one or two expansions released sometime in the future . Games now : game play broken down into pre-purchase extra's, DLC ,and game packs , story is contrived and chalk full of Politically Correct Bantha piss. Excellent review Mack, keep up the great work .

I'm so glad you reviewed this, just to get some new gameplay because I recently got back into this game and I was getting bored and I just started modding it and now there are endless maps and modes and units and vehicles.

Exactly...Why are we spawning midair in fighters and jets cough cough battlefield 1 battlefront 1...lazy, boring. There's something about the freedom of these older games. They're easy to get into, hard to master. I'd love some graphical overhauls but apparently there's a negative correlation between graphics and good gameplay. Keep it really real, thanks mack

Back in 2009 they made a battlefront game for the psp. Star Wars Battlefront Elite Squadron. In that game you could move from land to space in the same battle.... in 2009. I was waiting for them to do that in the new Battlefront. Lmao was I stupid....

You know there are acutally people out there who will argue: "But games nowadays look much better, which means there goes a lot more effort into developing the looks and sound and stuff, so they have to cut on other content"..... OH REALLY?? They seem to think that back then, developers had some magic tool that allowed them to create good looking games for those days standards (I think Battlefront 2 still looks pretty good) AND create loads of content AND good overall experience. Yeah, guess what, they just didn´t put like four fifths of their budget into fucking marketing back then, but instead used the money for the actual developement. How I despise these people that are just fanboying over every bullshit trailer they get thrown at and will happily buy and play a game thats not even worth half the price you have to pay for it; plus season pass and superuberdeluxe edition... They´re the reason why companies such as EA are able to continuously screw us and make shittons of money while doing so. I´d laugh about it if it wasn´t so sad.

You know Mac, for Easter I watched the 1950s "The 10 Commandments" movie with the family. It was filmed on location in Egypt, Mt. Sinai, etc. The actors wore elaborate costumes and had amazing sets to work with. Sure, the effects weren't as good as modern movies, but a lot of that movie just felt more "real" than many modern movies, even with the bad effects. I think the gaming industry has been Hollywood'ized. The things that made older movies great have been taken out and replaced with CGI and shaky camera. The things that made older games great have been taken out and replaced with cut scenes and player assists. It's really a shame.
