Abandonment and desertion are terms that are used interchangeably and have the same meaning. For example, you and your friend find an old beaten up Warehouse, and your friend says. "Looks deserted." Then you ask. "Are you sure it's completely abandoned though?" So you and your friend do a sweep of the place, find no sign of anyone around; and now your friend says. "Yep, place is completely deserted." And you now say. "So I guess it's officially abandoned then." ... In summery, for something to be abandoned, it first must be deserted. If it's not deserted, then it is not abandoned. There for it is bazar to declare something abandoned, then be surprised it's deserted. Isn't English such a lovely language that isn't completely annoying, even to those who grew up speaking it. (Sarcasm)

I mean maybe a specific antigen in some peoples blood streams being immune, maybe one or two stormtroopers are immune but not the officer and others, maybe by chance one of the immune ones is related to the female doctor and they happen to have the same antigen because it is related to the world they grew up generally encouraging that antigen in most inhabitants. that's all im asking. admittedly its a short and i am sure they get further into it in the story and i look forward to seeing it as a movie someday or maybe reading the book. i have heard good things about the book with the virus that kills a bunch of stormtroopers.

Death Troopers and the prequel Red Harvest- both excellent. It probably shouldn't be too common, but they demonstrated it's possible to do good horror writing in a convincingly Star Wars context.
