Probably not since Edwards' production was the most troubled out of the five new Star Wars movies. Lord and Miller were fired, but their production's issue was that they were going off-script and making a movie that was not aligning with the vision of the Kasdans. Edwards' production went completely off the rails and resulted in a cut of the film that was reportedly unwatchable. Tony Gilroy had to come in and reshoot significant portions of the movie, including most of the last-third, which is why the trailers feature many scenes that were not in the theatrical cut. Edwards' ability to handle a large production was pushed to its limits and the three Sequels, which were all larger productions than Rogue One, would have likely been too much for him to handle while delivering three movies in five years.

Just a backstory: I’m a prequel born kid but my dad showed me the originals before the prequels just so I could have that experience first and lately then I’d been watching Vader comic videos on KZbin so I was in love with Vader but anyways me and my dad went to see it and as soon as I heard the footsteps and Vader’s breathing I had the biggest grin on my face ever and me and my dad looked at each other and I just gotta say I’ve never been so excited about a movie scene in my life it was seriously amazing. Allen Frazier Yeah I almost wish I could go back in time to when Star Wars first came out and just experience it with everyone for the first time and just see the excitement and especially just seeing Vader for the first time which my dad told me he thought he was the coolest thing about it... I think he would fit for a show with a dark undertone like The Mandalorian as well, because he has proven that he can make some pretty dark stuff without it being non-star wars like. Also, he accomplished making people feel nostalgic without going The Force Awakens and copying a former story. Therefor he has my respect and I hope a long good carreer as filmmaker is awaiting him.

@Walker Productions the last jedi was cool. But for those canon fans who bought all the starwars backstory and comics would want to kill disney for destroying the story. For me(i didnt watch the cartoons and the comics) i think the original trilogy is an adventure, the prequel is a description of high end civilization, also about politics, and the last jedi trilogy is about philosophy. Seeing luke bcame a useless junk is what might actually happens in real life.

I don't know many that love this movie, I've spoken to people who are like "it was good...but". Personally I Iove it. Almost the best Star Wars for me, my number one being Revenge of the Sith (yep, for some reason ROTS really got to me). Rogue One didn't have flashy jedi fights, typical popular Star Wars stuff, but the plot, and characters, and the pace...it was perfection. The biggest thing for me was the significance of what was happening in the movie within the whole Skywalker saga...that was the best thing about it overall.

Truth being told, thats the 2nd most important scene in the whole story (the 1st one is the treachery of anakin to mace windu, bascily the success of palpatine's plans, wich ironicaly, kinda sucks). The people who made Rogue one, need to be the only people in charge of the future of star wars, Rogue One is the absolute best new star wars film.... it's absolutely amazing. I will also give the Game Of Thrones writer's a chance, but these guys truly understand star wars.....

Never before has a scene over whelmed me as much as this, Rogue one is easily one of the most underrated films out there. Even if your not a star wars fan there's so much to be appreciated. The way Edwards describes how he put together a scene/movie is genius.

I sort of agree. Most of what I said did come from the fact I have read all the extended universe books and comics both legends and canon with vader. And that really fleshed him out. Sure he is still ok and fleshed out from only the movies but no where near to the same extent.

Setting the epicness of the most epic scene in cinematic history it retcons a major flaw in the OT: That DV was a stiff decrepit cripple who relied on the Choke, because that's about all he had left. The greatest fear in the Galaxy (With Palpatine hiding in the shadows until the end as is his MO) memetic Badass Bobba Fett is intimidated by him, and what did he have to back that up? Presence. He's an imposing figure, and ruled through Intimidation. We needed to be reminded of Why he is hands down the most feared person in the Galaxy. Also, he had every advantage in that fight. It was made for him, the corridor made it a cakewalk for him to parry every blaster bolt, and mow through them like the scythe he is. It's a melee, against a bunch of terrified irregulars with pistols in the dark, with no escape. It couldn't have ended any other way, but really, we needed that big splashy show of Force because in decades of hearing how powerful he was, we never actually got to see it. That has been a gross oversight from the beginning. Finally, Darth fucking Vader, lord of Sith lives up to his fearsome reputation. The only Sin here is we didn't have more of it before this.

What made Rogue One and this scene memorable was that it brought context to things we've heard for years in all other SW films, but never truly understood. They said many times that a lot of people died to obtain the Death Star plans.. Holy molly, Tarkin pulverized thousands of people, including his own! Then they said of how fearful Darth Vader was, and this scene proves it. You didn't need to see blood and body parts flying on the air, but the actors' fear told it all. Vader was unstoppable. It is so important to have a truly scary villain in a movie, otherwise the audience will not get involved. We didn't know any about these guys, but their fear got us all into the scene.

@@Xehanortheartless I'd give JJ a bit more leeway than Rian, it was clear that in TFA, JJ set up a few mysteries to be solved by the next directors, such as Snoke, Knights of Ren, that old guy at the start, Rey's parents etc. TFA wasn't horrible, wasn't exactly original, but not bad. Then Rian came and cannibalized JJ's plot, scrapping it entirely, and then it was revealed that former director for Ep 9 was sacked, so JJ had to fill in the shoes.
