Star Wars | Episode 6: Vader's Redemption W/Flashbacks [GZ Edit]

Darth Vader returning to the light as Anakin Skywalker to save his son, Luke Skywalker was always one of my favorite scenes in Star Wars. His love for his son restored Anakin Skywalker's soul therefor bringing balance to the force by destroying the Emperor. I thought it would be fun to add flashbacks into it. I still Prefer the original cut but i had fun messing around with George Lucas's masterpiece :)

This shows why I don't hate the prequels. Yes there was flawed dialog and random bits, but it adds to be tragedy of Vader and the fact that he never wanted to be a monster. Loved this video, it helped put together what's in my head when I watch the movie on it's own.

I always imagined Darth Vader picturing Padme when seeing his son in pain. He remembers Padme, and suddenly it clicks that all this time it was the dark side and Palpatine that were responsible for her death; bringing back Anakin Skywalker yet again to redeem himself after all this time.

Ahsoka is definitely dead at this point. Vader bringing the force back into balance is him killing every Jedi and every Sith with the exception of Luke who's more of a balance between the two. I fucking hope we see a Vader or Ahsoka stand alone film one day, and finish their story properly.

Daniel Bocz Yes, he directly caused Mace Windu's death but he indirectly caused Padme's death. He thought by getting the seductive powers of the Sith he would be able to save her, but Anakin turning into such a monster is what caused her to die of a broken heart of all things.

Vader had always suspected that Palpatine didn't have his best interests at heart after he became a cyborg, at least in Legends. For example, in the Legends book Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader, he lashes out at Palpatine for giving a false promise of teaching him to understand the meaning behind the phrase "luminous beings we are, crude matter we are not" that Yoda taught him as Anakin, since he already promised to give him the power to save Padmé from death, but it didn't happen. Palpatine's willingness to replace Vader with Luke confirmed to Vader that Palpatine never cared for him in the first place.

This one scene made me realize that the moment he tosses the Emperor down the shaft, Anakin is letting go of all his built up hatred and evil. He essentially giving it all to Palpatine and releasing it.

It touched my heart seeing as the last flashback before throwing the emperor deep down in the reactor, the scene where Padme hugs Anakin right after having told him she was pregnant. Very very touching

Awesome! Just the way I pictured it, those visions being inside Anakin's head at that very moment flashing back to the past and the woman he truly loved. That love was still alive in the shape of Luke, that's what redeemed him , and I love it!

I honestly loved the prequels. Episode III stands as my all time favorite star wars film by far. Videos like this really demonstrate why, that is - the amount of context and emotional weight added to the originals by the prequels. We really understand Anakin and his fall to the dark side. The beautiful thing is that despite his agony over Padme's death, she did live on in Luke. He sees her in Luke, and that's what brought him back.

I remember years ago there was an edit that, immediately before Vader turns on the Palpatine, inserted the clip from the previous scene in which Luke states: "I am a Jedi, like my father before me." Gave me chills to imagine that Anakin, under the mask, was thinking in that moment: "I STILL AM A JEDI!!! I renounce you for seducing me!"

@@opqrrg Eh. For me they didn't ruin it. Palpatine crawled his way back to life through a clone in the original Lucas plot; but was put down by Han Solo while he was still weak. Then a Jedi Master from the new Jedi Order established by Luke Skywalker prevents Palpatine's soul from inhabiting another body. Both die and go to oblivion. This really isn't all that far from the narrative Disney created; Palpatine surviving through a clone and attempting to reestablish his Empire... but they totally disgraced the Original Cast. Poor Mark Hamill. I agree with his opinions. Luke Skywalker would of never been what he was. He WOULD establish the original Jedi Order.

I think this is the best edit out of all the others that exist. Simply having each sound effect just trigger his PTSD to his other events showing him just how messed up he became so that he goes back to reality to realize he's letting his son die. It's powerful stuff.

This gave some bad acted scenes from the prequels so much more emotional weight and significance. Very well done video man! Even as a kid, I teared up during this scene. You can tell, even before this wicked edit, that Vader, as one of the most feared villains in the universe, was conflicted and fighting with himself. Stay alive and keep his power, or take all punishment and pain the dark energies torturing his son and endure whatever he has left to kill the Emperor. What I love what you did was show the flashbacks with Padme, especially that last little stutter of Anakin and Padme face to face, showing that was the moment where Anakin decided to sacrifice what little life he had left to save his and his long lost loves son. Thus, returning to the light side.

To become a Sith almost all of them go through some kind of severe trauma or pain before crowned "Sith." -Maul was cleaved in half, thus knowing he failed. Not to mention the pain and suffering he endured in the process and had to use his rage to survive for 10 years til he was given real legs. Upon crowning himself king, he then had to watch the only thing he had to live for die slowly starting with his Mother and family and then.... his brother. -Savage had his arm cut off by a Jedi Master and was eventually killed while trying to be a Sith (he didn't deserve the life chosen for him IMO, he was just as innocent as anyone else duped by Sidious). He was stabbed and mocked and died with negativity in his brain. -Asajj was betrayed and lost her whole life because of the Sith. -Dooku was betrayed and beheaded with his lip quivering, whilst realizing that the last 13 years he dedicated to Sidious were for nothing. I personally believe Dooku is just as innocent as "Revan" became known in Legends. They both left the order for noble causes and let the Darkness consume them, unfortunately for Dooku, he didn't have time for redemption, and to me, when looking up at Anakin, I think Dooku came back to the light when his hands were cut off, he seemed in ALOT of shock for somebody who could just use the Dark side to ease the pain and then flee. Instead of yellow, hate filled eyes, it was his natural self. I didn't notice until watching the duel yesterday, I believe Dooku died light but was so consumed by darkness he couldn't transcend like Anakin. It's sad. -Grievous endured years of stress due to the Clone Wars, he was a monster created by the Sith for the Sith like Maul. Grievous was savagely blown to shit when Obi Wan hit em wit the hand cannon. -Sidious himself had to endure his own lightning and the pain following (hence why his voice becomes choked and he uses the dark side to help himself speak as he adjusts to the new feeling in his lungs and lets the darkness fully engulf him "To cheat death..." ya, that scene. -Vader.... you're watching it. Most sith of the Skywalker era were actually tricked into becoming Sith or tortured or brainwashed from a young age or when a force user was vulnerable. (hence the inquisitorium)

@@alexbarron7856 That is true but I was saying he had to still endure pain from the lightning , he also had to drop the face he had used for 40+ years which if it was a force mask, would have caused him an immense deal of pain, again, he was so powerful, the dark side could flow through him like a conduit thus, he recuperated immediately and blew mace out the window. He still spent the rest of his life after that duel living off the dark side. Again, listen to him speak after he gets up and crowns Anakin. That lightning did damage and Palpatine meant for it to.

There was a scene in Episode 1 I don't think was filmed, a part of the script where Shmi is talking to Anakin before he leaves to become a Jedi, that would have made this scene resonate so much more- _SHMI : Annie, remember when you climbed the great dune in order to chase the Banthas away so they wouldn't be shot? Remember how you collapsed several times exhausted, thinking you couldn't do it? This is one of those times when you have to do something you don't think you can do. I know how strong you are, Annie. The only thing I think would have made this video even better is if it had the special edition no's in there before he throws him over. Not a lot of people like the "No" part that's in the blu ray version, but this was the perfect chance to connect the no part from the prequel, as a sign for Anakin's downfall. And have that merge with the No on the blu ray edition. connecting the 2 as Anakin's fall, and Anakin's return. Someone should do it!

Fun fact, in the "edited" version of this scene (where vader says "no"), Vader's first "no" that he utters actually blocks out Luke's final plea before he saves him. If you listen closely, before Vader throws Palpatine you can hear Luke scream "Father!!!" in a desperate attempt to reach out to his father before Vader finally decides to redeem himself and save his son. Lucas's edit actually destroyed this version which had so much impact. Another reason why the edited version probably sucked.

I think "Father" had decided everything before that moment. I use the Past Perfect here especially to insist on this. But he should wait for a moment Palpatine in sadistic extase fogets about his presence and stops control Vaider. There was an only one chance to win. Less then a breath. In the same time he should control the state of Luke for not to be too late. The position should also be ideal. A really difficult task even for a great forceuser.

That "No" really does ruin the whole tone and mood of the scene. Vader simply looking back and forth silently is so powerful in itself, you really get inside that helmet. Here he is, he's lost everything and hates himself for it. Yet his Son came back for him, a tiny spark of love, very literally the last hope, that the Emperor is now going to strip from him too. This is the moment Anakin is reborn in a great conflagration, shatters his chains and becomes the hero again. That it's all done and you feel that impact from a masked character is an incredible thing to pull off.

I think, the situation should be more complicated. "Father" should wait for a moment what Palpatine forget about him. Anakin was broken forced to look at his mother suffering and death for along time unable to do anything and in his redemption he should look at his son suffering and wait for a moment to strike.

I could only imagine the voices running through the mind of Vader at that moment. Whispers from the past, of Obi Wan asking "The road lies before you, Anakin Skywalker. Will you walk it alone?" Perhaps the voice of Padme asking him to save their son? Or more likely the voice of Anakin as he took back control of the body and pushed aside his anger to save his son.

I think you got this spot-on, especially with the elements of metaphysics, but that credit also goes, in massive part, to your source of this material, G. Lucas; the true owner of Star Wars, as far as the *idea* goes. Interesting side element, anyone else seem to notice that Palpatine seems to age at an accellerating rate? That's due to his use of entering clones, but to do that, and to suppress the soul and possess the aforementioned "twin" of his, it'd require using the aid of demons, if that were even possible to begin with... well, those gangster spirits never give their favors cheap for the long run, let me tell you! In fact, merely based on his "force lightning" he used in this scene, and to the alarming degree that the more I study of the truth of metaphysics the more I grasp that he's made some *serious* gang deals.... and anyone at all who makes a deal with the mob ends up the slave of said mob! Hence, his "master" for lack of a better term, is most probably the "Red Tsar Comrade Secretary General of Perdition" namely: Lucifer, aka: the devil... and that also explains the reason why his aging intensifies: the dark side wizardry he's been engaging in is literally digesting him from the inside out, and also inclining him to make really and truly dumb decisions of how to handle geopolitical threats on his borders of his other job- one he really doesn't care that much about to begin with! Palpatine is, first and foremost, and almost exclusively, interested in *spiritual* power, not *physical or political power*, he's first and foremost, albeit a very warped religion, a very religious man deep down. Trouble is, for him, he's worshiping an evil alien, and this'll have eternal consequences to his behavior!
