Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith (2005) ✦ Reaction & Review ✦ This broke my heart 💔

This is a movie reaction to my first time watching Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and welcome in to all my feelings and lots of tears shed! Both Order 66 and the final duel of Anakin vs. Obi-Wan Kenobi hit me so hard. What an emotional film! This movie really makes me appreciate the prequels together and honestly the whole Star Wars journey overall. Man, seeing vader scream no and you crying to it gives it another perspective. People used to make that scene a meme, but what it truly is is basically vader realising that everything he did was for nothing, cause Padme died in the end. He did all that, to save her, and now must live with it for rest of his life.

Yep, that's a great way of putting it and why it was so emotional for me. And also just paralleling with the same No when saving Luke from the Emperor. Couldn't save Padme, so might as well save his son while he can. I'm so glad he did something good before he died. "There's still good in him, I know there is." Padme knew.

This movie in the Saga is my favorite because of the nostalgia, it completes the story, and because of it’s soundtrack. The original trilogy is one of the only happy things from my childhood. I watch them like a month ago and I had never felt so nostalgic watching them. I got watery during the binary sunset in A New Hope and cried at the end of Return of the Jedi because they’re sooo nostalgic to me. I’m also going to cry my eyes out when John Williams passes too 😔

When Mace Windu said "He's too dangerous to be left alive!", it echoed Darth Sidious' own words earlier about Count Dooku: "He was too dangerous to be left alive." Anakin saw in that moment that Sidious was right; there really was no difference between the Sith and the Jedi. And the Jedi Council's rejection of Anakin comes back to haunt them.

He still believed in the Jedi up until he no longer could for the safety of himself and he presumed his wife. And then he became Darth Vader and his views became skewed. Anakin's reaction to the premonition of Padme dying - becoming obsessed with saving her - became the very thing that caused her death. Had he never seen the vision, she would not have died. It was planted in his dreams by Sidious. The most powerful Sith in galactic history, his manipulations go beyond what you can initially see on the surface just watching the movies.

I love the context of the Anakin and Mace’s last conversation. “If what you say is true you will have gained my trust “That sentence Mace told Anakin, proved Sidious correct in Anakins eyes and showed that no matter all the years he spent with them, the times he risked his life during the clone wars, he was never trusted. They didn't even teach it at the academy according to the deep dive videos I've watched. I think even Yoda kinda reflects on this In the original trilogy. Hell the Jedi temple wasn't even a Jedi temple it was built on the ruins of a sith temple. correct me if I am wrong when Mace fights too with his Vappada he touches the dark side no? Like he has to embrace it yet not let it take over and control him. I think throughout the battle, Mace really saw how much a problem Palp was, even though I believe Mace would have won if Anakin didn't interfere. But who knows, I see theories that Palp sensed Anakin coming and looked weak intentionally to soften Anakin up

The fight between Anakin and Obi-Wan is just.. perfection. Here we've got everything. Who they are fully on display. Not a single moment of the fight is wasted. Obi-Wan has trained Anakin and fought alongside him for most of their lives. They both know each other's moves, footing, instincts, and strengths as well as they know themselves. Two brothers fully throwing down. Anakin at this point is without question one of the most powerful and dangerous people, deadly with his brutal efficiency. In all the fights that we've seen in episode 3 he can simply steamroll most opponents the same way he did to count dooku. Obi-wan, far more tactical of the two understands that he has absolutely no hope in matching strength with Anakin. He leads him through the facility always trying to keep better positioning, he's defensive and taking opportunity when it presents itself but never allowing Anakin the ability to start that steamroll. By the middle of the fight things have broken down to a full MMA brawl in the control room. There are moments where Obi-Wan breaks focus and just takes in the first hand view of the Carnage of Vader. The bodies. The sheer amount of death. At this point Obi-Wan truly gets serious and is even able to throw Vader back. It's also at this point Vader / Anakin fully gives into that anger and charges blindly for the rest of the fight. The look on his face is only for Obi-Wan. His intention to kill. Obi-Wan is checking his surroundings but Anakin never does. Charging forward in order to kill his former master. This point we get to really see Obi-Wan hold his own by trying to lead Anakin into multiple traps, almost as if he's unable to bring himself to cut Anakin down and praying that the lava will finish the job for him. And the look on his face after Anakin survives again and again... Probably thinking "you have got to be kidding me..." The two of them staring at each other finally having a moment to speak Anakin never breaks eye contact. His focus is clear. His plan hasn't changed. Obi-Wan lament and last ditch effort to reach out finally seals both their fates. "Then you truly are lost!" Kills me every time... It's the final acceptance that you lost someone. The anger, the grief. The decision to kill him. The high ground joke gets tossed around but truly it's perfect. Obi-Wan's tactic in knowing he can't beat him directly. Anakins power drunk arrogance in challenging that authority. The trap is set, the offer to surrender is given, the Sith Lord is cut down... But no one cheers. No one watching this movie celebrates and yells. No reaction or reactor is full of joy. This isn't a triumph... This is pain, understanding, loss, heartbreak, and we all can relate.

Also, Obi-wan knows how to defend against an attack while on the high ground, because he literally did that to Maul in ep. 1 so he knows how one would have to approach the attack. I love how the creators of Sc 38 reimagined took Obi-wan's defensive into account too and made their fight in that very similar. He's not trying to kill Vader; he's trying to buy time for Luke and the others to escape, and also viewing his inevitable defeat as a way to partially atone for his failure to kill Anakin on Mustafar. There is a LOT more nuance and subtle story work in Ep. 3 than people like to give credit for

I have to admit I love the prequels, I was intrigued by the political aspects & diving into the actual war. I really like seeing so many stories being told & explained all at once, you have the fall of the Jedi order, the Rise of the Emperor, the life of Anakin and the affects these events have had on the galaxy. As a whole I think the 6 movies in this saga compliment each other very well and each offers up something a little different to the audience.

Nobody notices this, but after Anakin turns into Darth Vader his speech and mannerisms start to resemble more those of Darth Vader in the suit. Pay close attention on how he uses his hands to add empahsis when he talks and the intonation of his voice changes to sound more elegant and menacing than when he used to be on the Light side... Hayden was so blamed for "bad acting" when he completely nailed in his performance

I never had any issues with his performance at all his performance in Episode 3 showed us an Anakin that was way more vulnerable than ever and just needed the final push to fully unleash his dark side it would've been cooler if he recieved more screentime as PreSuit Vader cause PreSuit Vader was legit terrifying I never forget how scary he looked when his eyes turned Sith Yellow when Vader not Anakin Vader was killing the separatists

"Hello there" in this movie is actually a call back to A New Hope. It is the first lines we hear Obi utter when he lowers his hood and says "Hello there" to R2 hiding in the rocks after he saves Luke from the Sand People.

Palpatine is probably one of the greatest villains to ever exist imo, yet extremely underrated and rarely mentioned when people create lists of the best villains in cinema. Of course Star Wars fans love him but he is rarely talked about, at least it seems that way to me.

@@kaiielle In the words of So Uncivilized: "He (Palpatine) drags the most promising young Jedi down to the fires of hell , reducing him to the state of slavery he was born into and turning him into a machine with a black skull where his face used to be". Palpatine was intended by Lucas to serve as something of an allegory to the devil, in that he manipulates others with promises of power and safety only to completely destroy them. :)

You are spot on. I think he is left off because most people watch the movies but don’t watch the animated series, Rebels and Clone Wars which go even deeper into the political interweaving that Palpatine does in the background the whole time. Then when you read Plagius and see how far back this was all planned he is for sure one of the best villains ever. This was all planed for 2 decades and took shape all over that time. The power he had to use in order to hide he was a Sith while working with the Jedi was immense. The Jedi should have been able to flesh him out before it ever got to the point it did. Best bad guy ever!

It's always been hilarious to me how Palpatine being the villain is so telegraphed when he's talking to Anakin about Darth Plagueis and he gives those side eye glances and bad guy vocal inflection. Fun fact: The move obi-wan used to defeat Anakin was actually a Jedi forbidden lightsaber technique known as mou kei, which was a deliberate severing of a limb or multiple limbs to quickly end a duel. Anakin actually used it on Count Dooku earlier in the film. In obi-wan’s duel with Anakin, a triple mou-kei ended their dual on Mustafar.

The thing is in episode 2 when she tells him to stop pursuing her he does. Cold Turkey. She only admits her feelings and goes for the relationship when she thought they were going to die. He respects her wishes and doesn't bring it up again at all until she does in the arena

But there was absolutely *nothing* stopping him from leaving, marrying Padme, and serving the republic as a private citizen. **But** was stopping him from doing that was his desire for power and the prestige of being a Jedi. His desire to be a *Master*. Blaming the Jedi Code is robbing Anakin of his responsibility for his actions.

Debatable. Immediately after killing the Separatists, there's the scene where the tears are rolling down his face, implying that there is some part of him that's not proud of what he's done. The only difference was that Plagueis was terrified of what Anakin represented and wanted to destroy him, whereas Palpatine was intrigued and wanted to control him, which eventually of course he did. In the canon comics, it's implied that Palpatine alone created Anakin.

@@kaiielle Duel of the Fates is great in terms of its intensity and importance when it's played: -In ep 1, it plays during the duel with Maul . If Maul killed both Jedi, Anakin wouldn't be trained. If Qui-Gon survives, he would be the stable father figure Anakin needed in his life. The loss of Qui-Gon puts Anakin in the care of the less optimistic and younger Obi-Wan -In ep 2, it plays when Anakin is searching for his mother. If Anakin had saved her, he may have not gone to the dark side. Losing her made it so that he became desperate to prevent the past repeating itself in ep 3, and gave him the first taste of the dark side. -In ep 3, it plays during the fight between Yoda and Palpatine. If Yoda had killed Palpatine, the Empire would have been ended earlier and Anakin wouldn't have been rescued and turned into Vader The duel of the fates revolves around Anakin and (because he's the Chosen One) by extension the entire saga. :)

I think he did. That smile he gave Anakin after he said they could save his wife from certain death seems to imply that he was aware of the dreams Anakin was having, or at least put the idea in his head. Something interesting to note (which strengthens this idea) is the original ROTS screenplay, and the moment Anakin kills Dooku: In that original script, Anakin would have been manipulated into killing Dooku after Palpatine dropped a huge revelation. The revelation would be that it was Dooku who had hired the Sand People to capture and kill Anakins mother. The pattern seems too obvious (at least in that version): Palpatine put the dreams of Anakins mother in his head and then made those dreams a reality by hiring Dooku to hire the Sand People to kill his mother :0

There are a variety of factors that lead to Anakin's turning to the Dark Side: his view of the Dark Side as just another tool and not as an inherently corruptive force; seeing the corruption in the Senate and in the Republic's dealings with the Outer Rim planets, which it exploits for resources while the Jedi look the other way; the way the Jedi keep trying to force him to be this emotionless drone without actually addressing the very valid issues he has; no one going back to Tatooine to friggin free his mom, FFS. He sees the hypocrisy of the Republic and of the Jedi for what it is, and he doesn't buy in to their incessant virtue-signaling, knowing that the 'good' guys do lots of bad shit too and justify it in the name of 'peace'. Obi-Wan was also a very strict teacher after he took him on as a padawan, which is how Anakin developed that huge chip on his shoulder; everyone telling him he's THE CHOSEN ONE, and yet Obi-Wan is always shitting on him for not being good enough (Obi-Wan was also just barely out of training himself, mind, and was definitely not ready to take on an apprentice). If Qui-Gon had lived, things would have turned out very differently as he was definitely more of a father figure and seasoned mentor for Anakin. It's not until after Shmi is killed that Obi-Wan softens his approach, but the damage has already been done. Yoda also does him no favors when Anakin opens up to him and Yoda's like "nah fam, all that shit you're worried about? Just get rid of it". Obviously that's not an option, but Yoda doesn't know the full story so gives bad advice without digging any further. Mace Windu is also not exactly someone who should be handling him either, as he is a practitioner of a dangerous discipline that utilizes the Dark side without succumbing to it (hence his purple lightsaber). Constantly being a dick to someone isn't going to make them want to do what you say :P Sidious has been grooming him the entire time as well, cultivating a friendship with him, and sending him visions of his mom and of Padme dying to kind of herd him along the path he wants him to go down. Anakin has also expressed disdain for democracy as he has seen the gridlock in the Senate that continues to see nothing get done for anyone, and kind of falls into the Megatron line of "Peace through tyranny" Then, when he sees Master Windu doing the exact thing he berated himself for doing to Tyrannus as 'not the Jedi way', with Windu basically telling him that it was wrong for HIM to do it, but now it's ok because it's the Sith Lord... the hypocrisy is too much for him to take. This and the attack on the man he considers his father figure convinces him that the Jedi are actually evil. Taking all of this into account, is it really surprising that he chose the Dark side? In his view, he's now able to ACTUALLY get shit done, punish those who deserve it, and not play into the hypocrisy of the Jedi anymore. His views are only reinforced when Obi-Wan shows up and instantly condemns him instead of, you know, asking what he's thinking and why, and offering to help. He just says "Only a Sith deals in absolutes" (itself an absolutism) and squares up. WTF do you think the reaction to that is gonna be? :P IMO the Jedi got what they deserved, and yes, while Sidious/The Emperor is pure evil, Anakin was not, and if he had actually succeeded in overthrowing his master (which he did try to do, but failed), things might have been very different. Anakin Skywalker's story is a tragedy of galactic proportions. Also, R2 never stays with the ship in the original trilogy because the last time someone told him to, it was Anakin on Mustafar, and he never came back :(

Jeff Wright Episode III is obviously the best though I did like II Phantom Menace was the only one that SUCKED, the dialogue in the prequels specifically Anakin's is absolutely ATROCIOUS!. But despite the bad first movie and bad dialogue the three of them together tell a complete and cohesive story that you can easily piece together, the sequel Trilogy you just can't do it because you have three movies that literally have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with one another. This is one of my favorite Star Wars movies. But I can't put it ahead of 4, 5 or 6. It still makes me cry and I've seen it many times. It's crazy how Palpatine was playing EVERYONE! In the last movie I was going to comment on how much you loved the younglings, but it seemed too cruel knowing what would happen here, so I didn't. If you didn't catch it Yoda was saying how Qui-gon learned how to "live on" through the force. When Anakin kills the sand people in ep2 you can hear Qui-gon scream nooooo! This knowledge Qui-gon passed on is how Obi and Yoda learned how to become force ghosts. Anyways, loved your reaction, hope to see more soon! 💖

In the moment where he falls off the tower after Vader cuts off Luke’s hand, as Luke falls Vader watches as his face slowly becomes the same as his mother and then Padme all the wile falling away from him.

But after rewatching these movies a dozen times, watching it with subtitles (which definitely helps), and watching it again after watching the Clone Wars with the little steps that Anakin, the Jedi Council, and Palpatine were making, this has to be one of the greatest descents of a character I've ever seen. Anakin made his choices that set him on the path to the Dark Side, and Palpatine definitely helped to coax him that way. But the Jedi themselves planted the seeds of their own destruction. They pushed him away from the light. It's amazing how in the almost 20 years since this movie came out, so many people's attitudes have changed towards these movies. I don't know what you'd call it, but I feel bad for how much hate these movies got

I'm one of the original generation of Star Wars fans, I was about 3 when I saw episode IV in the cinema. It took me a long time and a good few rewatches to fully appreciate just how deviously, brilliantly, evil Darth Sidious' masterplan was. A plan decades in the making and execution. He corrupted and apprenticed a well respected Jedi or two, Count Dooku and Sypho Dias. Used them to begin the creation of the clone army, preprogramming them with Order 66. At least 15 years in advance, he knew that getting the Jedi split up across the galaxy and surrounded by clones to kill them was the endgame. He engineered the Naboo/Trade Federation crisis explicitly to get himself elected Chancellor. Used Dooku to stir up the Seperatist movement, causing a civil war, partly to gain further political power, but primarily to wear the Jedi down and get them run ragged and dispersed and vulnerable. He may not have known exactly when the moment to strike was going to arrive, but he knew it when he saw it and didn't hesitate. Absolute evil genius, and terrifyingly patient and foresighted. I'm not certain, but I feel it's hinted that he may even have had a hand in Anakin's conception. The line in the opera house scene about how Darth Plagueis could even use the Force to create life, taken together with Shmi Skywalker's inexplicable pregnancy without a partner. Watching Episode I for the first time, I knew who he was immediately, both as Sidious and Palpatine. Watching him run rings around everyone was highly entertaining. The sheer sarcasm of it "No, your Highness, please, stay here where it's safe"

And Anakins attempt to surprise Obi-Wan by jumping over him was an inversion of the scene in TPM where Obi-Wan jumped over Maul to then kill him. Obi-Wan warning 'Don't try it' was the realization that his apprentice was about to attempt the same technique he had used to defeat Maul all those years ago. Of course in this case, Obi-Wan knew what Anakin would do and so took action where Maul couldn't, besting his student :)

I think this film is absolutely beautiful and heartbreaking. I'm right there with you when it comes to this and Return of the Jedi. This movie definitely makes Return of the Jedi better and I think both of these films are my favorites of the entire saga. I love how the title "The Return of the Jedi" isn't referring to the Jedi order returning but rather to Anakin himself. I love how the prequels show just how broken and corrupt everything is. The Republic, the Jedi everything it's all rotten and decaying and Sidious took full advantage of that to set himself up as Emperor. The Yoda and the Jedi order were the architects of their own destruction. They were so caught up with their own dogma it blinded them to everything else. I mean they ripped this child away from his mother and then told him he wasn't allowed to feel any kinda way about it. I think Qui Gon was the only one who understood this and had he survived things would have been different. But under Yoda and Obi Wan Anakin was constantly told to bottle his emotions and ignore them. That's extremely unhealthy and it's no wonder things turned out the way they did. That doesn't even remotely justify what Anakin did but it's understandable. I think part of the reason the prequels faced so much backlash is because people had this idea in their heads of who Yoda and the Jedi were. Simply based on his appearance in The Empire Strikes Back. Learning that maybe Yoda and his beliefs weren't so good after all was a bit of shock. In the old Expanded Universe after Return of the Jedi, the New Jedi Order under Luke Skywalker takes a very different path. One where love and attachment aren't treated as such a bad thing. I think this was a really cool idea because the old Jedi order and their beliefs were toxic and detrimental. For example In those books Leia Organa Solo is Married with three kids. She's a politician for the New Republic as well as a powerful Jedi. Something that never would've been allowed in the old Jedi order. Anakin was the last of the old Jedi and Luke and Leia were the first of the new. For me these six film's and the Legends Expanded Universe are the definitive Star Wars Saga. You should definitely watch the sequel films and make your own mind up about them. But if you're interested in an alternative universe the Legends EU is mostly amazing.

You should watch one of the sit downs behind the scenes of Mandalorian in which Dave Filoni talks about "Duel of the Fates" in episode 1 - Anakin desperately needs a father (figure), and Qui gon is the one filling that role - the dual is about him losing a father figure, and being replaced by a "brother" - and had he not lost to maul, things would have been much different. The entire fate of anakin was determined in episode 1.

The original cut of this film was going to be FOUR HOURS long. The opening rescue with Palpatine alone would have been an hour long and would have been intercut with 7 battles on 7 planets to show the scale of the Clone Wars. A 10 year old Han Solo would have appeared too . Eventually, Lucas decided to drastically scale back that version to focus solely on the fall of Anakin and not lose sight of that plot point. The designs for those 7 planets were instead reserved for the asteroid field where Padme gives birth and the Order 66 montage :)

Somehow, word on the street was that long before the events in what came to be known as A New Hope, Kenobi and Vader had dueled and it had ended with Kenobi throwing Vader into a volcano. That's why Vader had to wear the life support suit. I think this might have been mentioned in a novelization of one of the first trilogy movies. Through the entire prequel series, those of us who knew that were SO looking forward to the details of that duel. Revenge of the Sith delivered!

The "Noooo!" thing was something that I could understand why it was criticized, like just strictly out of context, it plays out almost literally the same as if it were a parody, like something you'd see on The Simpsons or Family Guy making fun of action movies of the hero dropping to their knees screaming nooooo. But honestly for me personally, it has never really bothered me within the movie because I feel like the film earns it. I remember watching this movie in the theaters in a sold out, rowdy, opening night theater and when that scene hit, not a single person in the theater was laughing or giggling, it was dead silent. It was only after when I came home and went on the internet that I saw people mocking it and complaining about it. Which leads me to believe that the people that make fun of it are probably people who just didn't overall like the movie period and so they weren't invested so as a detached viewer they just see the scene and laugh at it. Which is fine, everyone is entitled to their own opinions. They can dislike the movie. But I think there's a difference between saying you disliked the movie so that scene didn't land for you, versus them saying that scene is objectively poor. For all the viewers that are invested in the film up to that point, that scene works. The ROTJ change, I can see it being a little harder to swallow for longtime fans, like myself, because I'm so used to it NOT being there, that a lot of times when I view it with the "Nooo!", it's not even that it doesn't work, it's that instead of being in the moment, I'm taken out by the fact I can remember, "Oh that was added." On the flipside, it's interesting with new viewers like you who don't have that baggage. I think you explained perfectly why it almost works better now in context of the entire trilogy. That's always been the contentious thing about George Lucas and all the changes he's made to the films over time. Some changes I think are just legitimately bad (Jabba's scene in ANH only slows the pace down). Some are legitimately good (the ending Victory Celebration song in RotJ is much better than the original childish Yub Nub song). And then there are some changes like the RotJ "No!" change which I think objectively, it's probably better if a completely new viewer saw it, but it's hard for existing viewers to separate themselves from the change.

I really don't know why people diss the prequel trilogy Attack of the clones was kinda slow until the end but I enjoyed all 3 movies when I first watched revenge of the Sith when I was 13 in the movie theaters and I'm not afraid to say that it made me tear up at the end

One of the main themes of the prequels is the flaws of the Jedi Order as it was in this era and how it brought them to their fall. The reason why the Jedi are not allowed to have attachments is because they are supposed to serve the will of the force, and prioritise the greater good. They are supposed to be peacekeepers and protectors. Their connection to the force gives them great power, but they are supposed to use it selflessly. If presented between a dilemma, they should choose to save 200 people over saving one, even if that one is dear to them. That's why they are not supposed to have attachments (but interestingly enough, they can have sex, annd theoretically have children, but they can't raise them). And that is also why they are reluctant to start training kids after the age of 6, because by that time they have formed strong attachments with their family or other people that are very hard to root out. That reasoning maybe makes sense, and they have good intentions, but it is flawed because it is an unrealistic and unhealthy expectation. The Jedi in this era have become too dogmatic, the sith have been in hiding for a thousand years, believed by most Jedi to no longer exist. Without anyone to openly teach the dark side, the Jedi who struggled with the discipline and were pulled to the dark side were either swayed back into the light, expelled from the order or killed if they really were deemed too far gone, but none could become powerful enough in the dark side to be a threat. The thing is that, without confronting a true threat, they had forgot the dangers of not properly dealing with attachments and conflicting feelings, they thought that suppressing them was good enough. A more nuanced and healthy approach would have been to acknowledge that attachments are inevitable and may be even positive if handled properly, and that feelings such as fear or hate are there, but should be worked on. A much healthier approach would have been to allow attachments, while acknowledging that they can be a weakness in the duties of a Jedi, and train to not let them dominate your decisions. Same for the feelings that can lead to the dark side. Probably, if the Jedi showed some understanding and support towards Anakin's suffering instead of saying "those are dangerous feelings you have, you should just supress them"", Anakin would have grown into a much better Jedi. In the Empire Strikes Back and specially, in Return of the Jedi, Luke ultimately proves that the Jedi of the prequel era were wrong. In Emprie Strikes Back, his love and attachment for his friends did make him go straight into Vader's trap, but that didn't make him turn to the dark side. And in Return of the Jedi, it is true that the love and attachment for his friends together with Sidious' manipulation brought him close to the Dark Side, but he managed to control himself, And in the end,it is his love and attachment for his father that helped him overcome the rage that was pulling him to the dark side, and his unshaken belief in that Vader could be turned, to not let him go and accept that he was too far gone, is what won the day and restablished the balance to the force (also Vader's attachment to his son played as much of an important role). In Legends continuity (the pre-disney expanded universe), Luke's new Jedi Order went on to have a much healthier and balanced approach to these matters, allowing romance, and even some limited exploration of dark side abilities, as long as they didn't dominate you.

It doesn't prove them wrong per se. It just proves they aren't perfect as you noted. almost all the teachings kenobi and yoda instilled in him were correct. The only one that was wrong is that they believed Anakin was irredeemable, but they had first hand experience to make them believe that especially when obi-wan came to him to plead to give up the dark side right up until they fought. And to be fair, Palpatine was completely irredeemable so some people just can't be saved. Vader seems to be more of a special case that was aided because Luke just so happened to be his blood but also because Vader didn't even want to be evil to begin with. He only did it because he HAD to in order to survive and out of the attachment he had for padme. He was never totally committed to the cause. Palpatine and the Empire became all he had. Still that is not an every bad person case, vader is more the exception than the rule. The folly of the Jedi was their complacency and arrogance which will settle in with any successful organization that spans years let alone decades, centuries or millennia. And yes, their lack of empathy or compassion although Obi-Wan probably could have been an outlet if anakin actually decided to trust him rather than hiding literally everything unJedilike from him.

I am talking about what I feel was one of George Lucas' main themes in the prequels, and because George Lucas didn't have anything to do with the Book of Boba Fett, the way they handle anything there does not affect the prequels. And if you mean what I said about Luke's Jedi Order in Legends, well, I specifically said I was talking about Legends continuity, which is different than Disney's new canon, so I don't understand how anything that happens in Book of Boba Fett changes anything about Legends.

The Jedi weren't perfect, but they were still clearly the "good guys", and most of their teachings were positive. I only said that Luke proved that a more nuanced approach to attachments and strong feelings could work better than the "you shouldn't be feeling that because it's a path to the Dark Side". Obviously, it can be a path to the Dark Side, and Anakin is proof of that, but supressing your feelings in a strict and dogmatic way doesn't usually make them go away, that's why I think they had the wrong approach, helping each other deal with those feelings and acknowledging them while not letting them dominate your decision making is a much healthier way of achieving what the Jedi intended. Arrogance as you say, had a role in the fall of the Jedi, but the dogmatic way they handled attachments and strong feelings is part of that arrogance and I think the most important part of what went wrong between Anakin and the Jedi Order. Obi-wan is shown to be much more empatic than Windu or even Yoda, but still, he was part of the larger system that failed Anakin emotionally. And I think there must have been many like him before, those who struggled with the Order's strict discipline in those matters, but because they weren't as powerful and the Sith were in hiding, they didn't pose as much a threat to the Order as a whole.

38:48 The Emperor wasn't actually trying to run away. As he said, he has been waiting a long time for this moment. What he was actually doing was trying to move the fight out of his office to a more open space, since he can use his powers to the fullest in wide open areas as opposed to enclosed ones. That is why he lured Yoda onto the Supreme Chancellor's Senate podium and activated it to take them up into the vast Senate chamber. Once there, Darth Sidious didn't need to use his lightsaber anymore, and discarded it in favour of utilising his raw power in the Force against Yoda instead, excitedly flinging numerous Senate pods and Force Lightning at the Jedi Grandmaster. Ironically, despite the fact that Palpatine is one of the greatest duelists of all time, having fully mastered all seven forms of lightsaber combat, he was fairly disdainful of lightsaber combat in general, believing the Sith to have grown beyond the need for lightsabers. They would use these weapons, he once told Darth Vader, *_"if only to humiliate the Jedi."_* Sidious much prefers to simply use the Force to combat his enemies than to stoop to lightsaber combat, only doing so as a form of mockery to his enemies. So whenever you see Palpatine using a lightsaber, you know he's not fighting seriously. This is another hint to the fact that Palpatine was never really in any danger during his fight with Mace Windu, the second-greatest Jedi duelist besides Yoda himself. Palpatine likely could've killed Windu at any time as he did with the other three Jedi Council members, but instead chose to throw the fight as he knew that Anakin was about to arrive, where the Dark Lord then played the victim to tempt Anakin into turning on Windu, as well as with the promise that *_"I have the power to save the one you love."_* - all part of his plan to turn Anakin over to the dark side.

In reality, Hayden was mimicking the speech patterns and inflections that the original trilogy Vader had. About the added "noooo" to RoTJ, I agreee. However for me, it wasn't the long "NOOOOOOO" that I think is the more impactful, it's the quieter, shorter "no" just before it. It's like Anakin is talking to himself in that moment, realizing, as he watches his son tortured by his mentor, that all of this is wrong, that he has been wrong for all of these years.

Yeah exactly. When I first heard about that change and how 'bad' it was, I thought Lucas had literally copypasted Vader's 'nooo' from ep 3. But the way they did in ROTJ was effective and subtle. The first no is quieter, almost as if Vader is coming to a realization about the choice he has to make, and that history could repeat itself as he loses yet another loved one. The second , longer 'no' is Vader's determination to prevent the cycle of loss continuing as he proceeds to pick up Palpatine and cast him down the reactor shaft, finally breaking free from his master's grip. I think there's a line from young Anakin in ep 1 about how he had a dream that he came back as a Jedi and freed all the slaves. He fulfills this dream in 'Return of the Jedi' by killing the Emperor and thus ending the Empire, freeing all of its subjects from tyranny :)

What i love about the Sith/ Palpatine is he isnt nessicarly lying to Anakin. Hes being completely truthful. But its a darker more personal perspective that turns a diff type of feelings on inside you. Which can be equally if not more strong then the Jedi counterpart. However because you think more of yourself and what you want, it can pull in negative feelings causing rage and hate. It makes you a very vulnerable type of powerful. Its a very intresting concept. Its awesome.

There's a really interesting fan theory going around that Palpatine used Padme's life force to supplement Darth Vader's life. As you saw, one died and the other rose at the same time, and Palpatine both knew about Anakins dreams about her dying and blamed him when she died. He seemed to know she died at that moment in time. Secondly, it is also rumored that Darth Vader had flashbacks in Return of the Jedi when the Emperor was electrocuting Luke not just of Padme, but of the death of Mace Windu. Mace was the first Jedi that Anakin attacked before watching the Emperor electrocute him to death
