The saddest thing about R2 and Anakin is that when he stopped to check on Padme after killing the Jedi at the temple, R2 and 3PO are talking. In the novelization, 3PO asks R2 about Anakin and R2 responds to him "I don't know, he doesn't talk to me anymore." That combined with him getting left by Anakin on Mustafar traumatized him. Thats why in V, when Luke tells R2 to stay with the ship on Dagobah, he immediately jumps out, thus falling in the swamp. The last time he stayed with the ship, his master left him.

@@NiaMakiReactsAnakin's descent into darkness was well portrayed. Because some Jedi never completely loved him, didn't respect him, didn't trust him, didn't take him seriously and even despised him. As a child before Obi-Wan started teaching him, he was hated and psychologically bullied by other children "Anakin is a slave to his feelings" and that was only because of envy because he was much more gifted and skilled than them. And many other things and sufferings he and his padawan, Ashoka Tano, the Jedi like to cause. Yoda during the Clone Wars, he met the spirit of Darth Bane in Sitt's tomb, which is created by the rule of two. And later in his visions he saw Anakin becoming Darth Vader and didn't do anything about it because I thought it wasn't worth it. Anakin was a slave all his life - Tatuine, Jedi, Love, Dark Side. He became a father figure to Qui-gon Jinn, during his stay in the temple he was psychologically bullied and called by others "Anakin slaves to his own feelings", he lost his mother, the Jedi never married him all the time and without proper evidence he accused Ashoka and caused her to leave and finally he was afraid of losing Padmé. The only and worst support given the events was Palpatine who was a fatherly substitute for Anakin from the beginning. When he used Mace Windu's hand and after killing the Jedi he was already in the dark as the dark side itself showed him to the planet Mortis The One Son. On Mustafar, Padme almost got him from the dark side, but Obi-Wan discovered him and screwed it up. Anakin "Vader" built his castle on Mustafar and thanks to the two sbosobs he tried to revive Padmé but he could not see it due to the fact that Luke and Leya were already born, they were the only ones preventing it with their existence. Too bad he didn't find "Word between Wolrds" on the planet Lothal. He would create an alternate Reality or go through all of history. ;) You have to find out about the lost 20 Jedi like Count Dooku, about the fates of Jedi with the ability to see the future, young apprentices who were not taken by any Jedi masters to learn, who showed little talent for the force and were not shown to the temple which in some cases was quite drastic, . .. Blinded by ego, aronance, pride, absolute help to people and not following the path of forces. Honor to the exceptions and one of the true Jedi was Master Fey. The Jedi and the Fallen Jedi (Sith) have betrayed the memory and message of their common ancestors of the Je'daii Order by their actions and the endless battles of their Civil War. 😊 May the force be with you. And may you lead the force. 🖐️

Master Ki-Adi Mundi, the one with the large forehead, was on a hologram in the council meeting where Anakin was accepted onto the council but not granted the rank of master. Master Mundi was, in fact, only a knight when he was accepted onto the council, and became a master later on. So while Anakin was shouting about how outrageous and unfair it was, Mundi was sitting there thinking, “Bruh, I am right here!” 😅

34:54 Anakin and Vader are almost like 2 different personalities. Also, when a force user goes the dark side, like Anakin here, it can be harder for them to turn away from the dark side again, but it's absolutely possible. Vader speaks of Anakin in 3rd person. I'd say, because Vader wants to be detatched from "weak" Anakin (as Vader calls him) as much as possible.

@Dayspring Yes, Anakin and Vader are not literally seperate personalities and I didn't mean to imply that. I'd say Vader tries to make it seem that way. With "different personality" I mainly meant that all of his caring about his friends parts are gone as Vader and Anakin was all about that. In that regard they were very different.

Sort of but not really. When Anakin is first turned to the Dark Side and slaughtered all the Jedi and Separatists he is still himself, all be it conflicted. Which is the reason he didn't have Sith eyes when killing the Jedi or Fighting Obi-Wan because he didn't really deep down want to fight them, but when he was slaughtering the Separatists he did have the Sith eyes because he wanted to kill them. After losing to Obi-Wan and being told his wife is dead and that it was his fault he lost himself in that very moment, he didn't want to believe he was Anakin anymore so he chose to reject that he even was Anakin as a coping mechanism. For 20 years he would remain in this coping state just enforcing fear and terror as Palpatine who manipulated him forced him to do his bidding, he deep down hated him but wasn't strong enough to overthrow him or so he didn't think. It wasn't till he realized he had a Son that he became *conflicted* again. Basically Anakin/Vader are basically the same personality, Anakin hated himself that much that he chose to reject his own personality in favour of his hatred for everyone and himself.

44:46 The Sith are somewhat selfless in that sense. As you correctly guessed, it is the Sith way to knowingly train one's own future murderer. Palpatine's capture was a Jedi Trap. Dooku played along, with Palpatine being the bait. He fully believed that the trap was for Skywalker. He only realised mid-duel with Anakin, that HE was the target of the trap. Sidious had promised him a way to end the war, act like he'd been deceived, and renounce the confederacy etc. He thought the trap was for Sidious to test and turn Anakin, to become the General in a new Sith army. So he was genuinely shocked by the end. At the start of the duel, he was playing with Kenobi and Skywalker, they started mixing shit up on him, and he gradually found himself barely able to stay alive. Only a few people know Palpatine is also Darth Sidious. Count Dooku knows, and is in full league with him. Between the two of them, they are playing the roles of the leaders of BOTH sides in the war. A handful of Palpatine's advisors know, as does Tarkin and some who get high positions in the new Empire. None of the Separatist Council know. They all think it's two different people. So when Grevious decides to just let Palpatine die in the wreckage, he has NO CLUE, it's actually his boss Darth Sidious. The Clone War itself is the revenge of the Sith. It pulls the Jedi into a war they don't want, and forces them to become soldiers. It thins the number of Jedi right down, so that when the time is right, there's a quick coup.

I am not sure about the Separatist Council not knowing (Grievous is actually not part of the council, just a stooge they crippled and gave a new body to lead the army). Nute pretty much says that sidious' plan unfolded as he had promised...after the war was over and Jedi were destroyed. And in exchange for playing their part Sidious would give them peace....that's why they were shocked Anakin wiped them out.

Palpatine's appearance actually changed no because of being hit by his own Force Lightning, but because he was exerting so much energy into trying to kill Mace Windu that he lost the ability to maintain his false visage. And to me, in that moment, Jedi and Sith didn't seem that different to Anakin, so why not choose the one who had the possibility of saving your wife? @ronyrontana9735
@ronyrontana9735 Жыл бұрын
@@CrazeeAdam his mind was made up long before that moment. He might have used that to justify in his mind what he was about to do, but his mind was made up. He knew his facade was about to crumble and all his lies and deceptions would be exposed. Padme: 'this baby will change our lives. You will be expelled from the Jedi order'. Anikan realized he was about to lose the power and prestige (he craved so much) that came with being a Jedi. Even worse, in his mind, the council, the other Jedi, the general public, everyone would see him as the liar and fraud that he was. Him taking offense by another Jedi breaking the code is hilarious. The code never meant much to him. He constantly broke, ignored, diffide, however you choose to describe it, the code. So to believe anything Mace said or did had any affect on Anikan's actions is silly. And let's not forget that Mace had tried twice already, once in front of Anikan, to arrest Sidious to no avail as Sidious continued to push it. Mace realized the only way to stop him was to kill him. The last thing Anikan says to Windu before intervening was "I need him". This one line revealed Anikan's true motivation and intention. The only Jedi that contributed to Anikan's downfall is Qui Gon. It was he that separated Anikan from his mother. A decision that lead to Anikan's guilt, anger and regret about leaving her. The trip to Coruscant allowed Anikan to develop deep feelings for Padme. It was Qui Gon that filled Anikan's head about being the chosen one planting the seeds for his arrogance and entitlement to grow. He goes against the council in front of Anikan. He guilts Konobi into promising to train Anikan knowing full well that Obi-Wan was against Anikan being trained. These actions and choices by Qui Gon directly contributed to Anikan's downfall. Those few words by Mace didn't matter.

Everyone is always surprised by the light saber amputations when it's a common real life sword fighting technique. The easiest way to disarm an opponent is to remove the hand holding the weapon. This is not a Star Wars thing. It's a real life melee combat thing. My favorite line in all the movies is when Palpatine told Anakin to leave Obi to die. Anakin replied "His fate will be the same as ours". Well, it was. All three died on a Death Star and all three were technically killed by Anakin/Vader. Vader struck Obi-Wan down. Which killed her because of the dual trauma of childbirth and being choked out. (Though since Palpatine knew she was dead, he probably meant to kill her. And likely assumed he got her children too.) Padme's last breath corresponds with Darth Vader's first breath.

@@lirpa2300 It's not Palpatine's power per se, but it is what happened in essence, it was enabled by the dark side which is parasitic on the Force. As the mask closes on Anakin, he just barely audibly whispers "Help me Padme," they are bound through the force and she gave up her life force to help keep him alive. The "lost the will to live" was only the suggestion of the droid. The tragic secret to the dark side's ability is it can only extend life by drawing on the life force of others, as much as loathe the sequel trilogy the concept of a force bond between two people comes direct from this story.

Having the apprentice kill the master is like the final test because if you succseede then you have proven that you don't need them anymore and if you fail then you get killed because you werent ready. This way the sith would become stronger every time at least in theory.

Interesting tidbit from the Episode III Novelization (Book version of the movie): Part of why Anakin was so quick to think Padme had betrayed him is because of one of Palpatine's manipulation off screen. See, Padme had joined a group called "The Delegation of 2000", which was a group of Senators who called for Palpatine to relinquish his emergency powers back to the Senate once the war was over. Initially, Anakin didn't know that Padme was a member until Palpatine told him, which is what sparks the argument we see in which Anakin accuses her of sounding like a Separatist. Palpatine also tells him "The worst betrayals are from those closest to us." Which is something that naws at Anakin throughout his rampage on Mustafar. Also, just before Padme arrives, Palpatine tells Anakin/Vader that he is in danger, which causes Anakin to be suspicious. When Padme brings up Obi-Wan, Anakin's thoughts immediately go to his master's warnings and he begins to think that Padme is trying to Assassinate him. Thus, when he sees Obi-Wan on her ship, he immediately flies into a rage and lashes out at her. Some of this is shown through deleted scenes, but I highly recommend reading the novelization. It gives a great insight on what Anakin was thinking and WHY he felt this was the only way. Edit: On another note, you aren't wrong that Qui-Gon would've been the better master for Anakin. Both Lucas and Dave Filoni have stated that the iconic "Duel of the Fates" was over Anakin's fate, and the Jedi lost when Qui-Gon was killed. And yes, the reason Padme still looked pregnant was to convince everyone, including Vader and the Emperor, that the babies had died along with Padme. It ended up cementing Anakin as Vader because he no longer had any reason to live beyond revenge and self-loathing.

Lucas has not said the "duel of the fates" was over anakin. only filoni has and it is bunk. Filoni doesn't know anything about the continuity or canon (which is why he frequently messes it up...including his own continuity). Qui-Gon also wouldn't have made any difference. He was on record saying he couldn't save anakin's mother and was unwilling to break rules to do it. He also warned anakin being a jedi was a tough life not many can do. The reality is that Anakin would have still been in love with padme, still would fear losing her, still would have lost his mother and palpatine still would have twisted him...and if it didn't work...well Order 66 wipes everyone out anyway. Another thing to contemplate, who knows how Dooku would have influenced Qui-Gon which would have influenced anakin. The actual FUN FACT about "Duel of the Fates" is that the music track entitled that was scored for the end credits NOT for any portion of the film, but Lucas liked it and Williams used various cues with pieces of that track in it for scenes....including the film climax. Finally, I don't recall any moment where Palpatine warns Anakin about Padme before she arrives on Mustafar...in fact he didn't know anything about what was going on there until after he concluded fighting Yoda. But I have not read the novel in very long and needs to be taken with a grain of salt in every area it deviates from the movie since it A) Uses a script that was completed but was NOT the final shooting script (The script changed literally daily based on Lucas' whims...there were a great many things excised and changed on the day of shooting) because Stover needed to write his novel months in advance of release. B) Stover has to weave in a TON of artistic license to flesh out a bare bones script to novel length. Basically a lot of the "insight" is just him adding his own views and flavor to it. Oh and the novel cut out a huge chunk of the movie out....mostly Yoda's stuff.

I think an important think that youve missed is that the sith have the rule of 2, so that the apprentice will always be stronger than the master. Anakin was suposed to be twice as powerfull as sidious, but becouse Obi Wan chopped of all his limbs, now as vader, hes potantiol is limited to 80 % of sidious his power. Also the suit of vader is made of the worst cybernatics in all of star wars. Sidious did this to punish him for losing to obi wan. Vader is basicly always suffering and in pain.

Obi-Wan not killing Vader comes down to his Jedi beliefs more than anything, at least according to the novelization. He did sense the Emperor approaching but also at the end of the day he's a Jedi, and a Jedi won't kill an unarmed opponent. I'm not sure if this is canon, but I think that Palpatine DOES know the secret to immortality. He kept Anakin alive while putting him into the Vader suit, and as Anakin is being reborn as Vader, Padme mysteriously "loses the will to live" (and the medics can't understand why). This is because her life force was being siphoned into Vader. Palpatine somehow knew that Padme had died....
@scottb3034

Palpatine was making up that Padme died. It was pure dumb luck and coincidence she actually did die. Also he was lying about knowing the secret, he is a liar...that's what he does. He didn't learn it from Plagueis. The Sith cannot access power of that level because the dark side cannot, only the light side grants you the highest of power...which is why the light side is the better, "stronger" path. These are the most basic teachings by lucas.

The scene on the balcony with padme shows that R2 speeks with C3PO who says "well, he's under a lot of stress" and played R2 down like he's always doing with him. So you can assume that R2 is kind of furious about Anakin Also Anakin told R2 on Mustafar to stay at his ship. IN IV V VI R2 kind of refusing orders from his masters and it's because the last time he did, his master never came back. It is so refreshing to finally see someones first reaction, where they immediatly get why anakin is so frustrated with the jedi. Usually i just see people thinking he is entitled, whiney and arrogant. But the jedi keep pushing him away. First hey tell him he is the chosen one , but at the same time keep holding him back. Also they should have known that their usual teachings wouldnt work with someone who got introduced to the order so late. (Having ALREADY formed attachments. They should have adjusted their training. That is why he would have needed Qui Gonns training. Qui Gonn wasnt so rigged and stuck in his ways. The jedi of this era had become to political and less about following the will of the force. Also neat detail: The reason anakin (foolishly IMO, because he cold have jumped to the side and kept fighting) tried to jump over Obi-Wan, was to beat him the same way Obi-Wan beath Darth Maul in Episode 1. That was the first time a Jedi killed a Sith in a 1000 years (Maul survived but at the time they didnt know it). Anakin wanted to surpass that feat against the man that did it. Ironically Anakin is the first Jedi to kill a Sith in a 1000 years. To the question about having an apprentice to surpass you. Thats what palpatine originally wanted, because its the sith way to have the apprentice kill the master when he is strong enough. That way the sith keep getting stronger with each generation. But when anakin burned he lost part of his potential. Palpatine saw that as having the second strongest guy around as a lapdog until he found someone better.

Qui-Gon would have made no difference. He is not as different from other Jedi as you think and Palpatine would have still ensured he had Anakin's ear and separated the two (while also getting anakin with padme). Let's also not forget Anakin was ready to be a Jedi Knight at age 19 while Qui-Gon didn't let Obi-Wan even attempt the trials at age 25. Qui-Gon would have failed where everyone else failed because Anakin was doomed by coming to the order at age 9 with the baggage he had due to his mother (who Qui-Gon didn't free and warned Anakin about the tough life of a Jedi).

Padme died of broken heart syndrome. The poor lady didn't understand who Anakin really was. A troubled young man who thought that with his strong connection to the force he could do anything. Saving the people he loved has always been his obsession. Yoda had sensed it in the first episode and it should never have been trained. Anakin was a mental patient driven by certain obsessions. Obi-Wan beat Anakin because he knew how Anakin fought and he knew Anakin by heart. At the end of the fight he played on the arrogance of his young padawan and it worked like hell. Anakin will have often been betrayed by his arrogance. Fortunately, his love for Padme and his desire to save those he loves allowed him to kill the Emperor and save his son. Palpatine didn't get it, arrogant as he was that Anakin's desire to save those he loved was always a primary driver of his actions. Let's not forget that in this episode 3 for example he refused to abandon Obi-Wan when Palpatine ordered him to do so. I think Anakin acted as he did out of a desire to save those he loved. This is why he saved Obi-Wan multiple times, why he was willing to sell his soul to save Padme, and why he ultimately killed the Emperor to save his son. There's a bit of that in Luke too, who in episode V was ready to do anything to save his friends.

"Luke, I'm not so sure I agree with your decision now..." Thank you! Luke had no idea what a monster his father was, and blindly tried to save a man who murdered children and choked his wife unconscious, let alone facilitated and participated in mass murder as part of a fascist regime. Vader's redemption could only come through death, as there was no way his crimes could go unpunished by the galaxy.

here’s an interesting thought…. As the babies are born, padme named them, Luke and Leia. Then she says to Obi-wan “Anikan” “there’s still good in him, I know it.“ if the babies are still in the same room… it’s possible that the first thing Luke hears is his sister’s name, his Father’s name, and there’s still good in him. Perhaps that idea was imprinted on him by the force… and it could point to why Leia says “I know, somehow, I’ve always known” when Luke tells her she is his sister.

I did some reading & found out that Leia on the other hand was like "F*ck that guy." towards her father, after the events of Return of the Jedi. She held a grudge against him for a long time. She didn't even bother to attend the makeshift funeral of her father's helmet at Endor. (which is understandable) I guess Leia inherited some of Anakin's stubborness.

What's sad is Anakin's own actions are what essentially led to Padme's death. In Return of the Jedi when Luke tells him "Let go of your hate". I believe the hate Vader had was for himself.

The Galactic Empire was formed pretty much as soon as Palpantine took over the Senate at least the plan for it. But it really starts to come about when the Jedi fall the Galactic Empire is formed and with order 66 the Empire took over . Over the decades the Empire will look like what you see in the original Star Wars films in Luke's time . By this time the Empire is at it's full potential having legions of Storm Troopers, Massive Capital Ships and the infamous planet killer Star Destroyer. So in the original trilogy you're seeing the Empire at it"s prime

Great reaction to the Prequel Trilogy! My opinion is that things would have definitely been different if Anakin had been trained by Qui-Gon or if the Jedi Council had adopted a new method to teach Anakin given the circumstances. But at the same time as per the prophecy of him being the chosen one, I think it all had to happen in order for the balance to be restored. As it’s been shown and stated by George Lucas that Anakin was always the chosen one. And also how that prophecy came to full fruition when Anakin defeated Sidious to save Luke. I strongly believe the possibility that Sidious siphoned Padmé’s life force to keep Vader intact, and despite all he had Padmé still loved Anakin and he loved her and wanted save her even if he became corrupted by his objective. 🌌🛸💙❤️💔😱😭

@@NiaMakiReacts Also the way I see it both the Jedi and the Sith needed to be balanced. The Jedi allowed their hubris to be blinded to the danger in front of them and the Sith were blinded by their lust for power to become corrupted and destroyed by it. TBH, any force user is capable to wield any of the powers of the force; it’s the choices they make with it that defines them. Anakin to me wasn’t pure evil or pure good. Just person who’s good intentions were corrupted because he was manipulated by both sides. Padmé and Obi-Wan were the only ones who had best intentions for him. Padmé just wanted to give him love, and Obi-Wan just wanted to give him guidance.

If you want to continue Obi Wan's story while in exile on Tatooine, I recommend you watch the Disney+ limited series Obi Wan Kenobi (6 episodes). It bridges the gap between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. Most of the novelizations of the films in the Skywalker Saga are rather "meh", but not only is this one (authored by Matthew Stover) my favorite Star Wars novel, it ranks in the Top 5 novels of the hundreds I've ever read in the last 40 years. There is some amazing exposition in the novel, and if they had done it like that this movie would have been 10x better. For example, imagine Hayden Christianson doing a voiceover during the end scene with the following from the novel: "This is how it feels to be Anakin Skywalker, forever: The first dawn of light in your universe brings pain. The light burns you. It will always burn you. Part of you will always lie upon black glass sand beside a lake of fire while flames chew at your flesh. You can hear yourself breathing. It comes hard, and harsh, and it scrapes nerves already raw, but you cannot stop it. You can never stop it. You cannot even slow it down. You don’t even have lungs anymore. Mechanisms hardwired into your chest breathe for you. They will pump oxygen into your bloodstream forever. 'Lord Vader? Lord Vader, can you hear me?' And you can’t, not in the way you once did. Sensors in the shell that prisons your head trickle meaning directly into your brain. You open your scorched-pale eyes; optical sensors integrate light and shadow into a hideous simulacrum of the world around you. Or perhaps the simulacrum is perfect, and it is the world that is hideous. Padme? Are you here? Are you all right? you try to say, but another voice speaks for you, out from the vocabulator that serves you for burned-away lips and tongue and throat. 'Padme? Are you here? Are you all right?' 'I’m very sorry, Lord Vader. I’m afraid she died. It seems in your anger, you killed her.' This burns hotter than the lava had. No…no, it is not possible! You love her. You have always loved her. You could never will her death. Never. But you remember… You remember all of it. You remember the dragon that you brought Vader forth from your heart to slay. You remember the cold venom in Vader’s blood. You remember the furnace of Vader’s fury, and the black hatred of seizing her throat to silence her lying mouth… And there is one blazing moment in which you finally understand that there was no dragon. That there was no Vader. That there was only you. Only Anakin Skywalker. That it was all you. Is you. Only you. You did it. You killed her. You killed her because, finally, when you could have saved her, when you could have gone away with her, when you could have been thinking about her, you were thinking about yourself… It is in this blazing moment that you finally understand the trap of the dark side, the final cruelty of the Sith - Because now yourself is all you will ever have. And you rage and scream and reach through the Force to crush the shadow who has destroyed you, but you are so far less now than what you were. You are more than half machine, you are like a painter gone blind, a composer gone deaf, you can remember where the power was but the power you can touch is only a memory, and so with all your world-destroying fury it is only droids around you that implode, and equipment, and the table on which you were strapped shatters, and in the end, you cannot touch the shadow. In the end, you do not even want to. In the end, the shadow is all you have left. Because the shadow understands you, the shadow forgives you, the shadow gathers you unto itself- And within your furnace heart, you burn in your own flame. This is how it feels to be Anakin Skywalker. Forever…"

So the theory MANY have, Padime never "lost the will to live", Palpentine used his force powers to sap the last bit of life from her to keep Anakin alive basically. Which is why it shows the two almost in conjunction, as one life ends (Padime) another starts (Vader). For this reason, and many others.. This became my favorite star wars. Once you peel back the layers and really think about things, this movie reaches a level not many other Star Wars properties ever did
