Cool reaction! Now that you’re done with the OG saga, I’d recommend that you react/review the movie called George Lucas vs the Fans or the KZbin reviewer Mr. Plinkett when he goes over the prequels. I think either one is a really neat piece for Star Wars fans! Plus they are not only funny but really introspective on how Star Wars changed or didn’t change. Personally, while return of the Jedi is great, it’s also indicative of problems the series will continue to struggle with. It’s Lucas making decisions that hurt the story, long scenes where it’s just constant exposition, plot threads that are copied and pasted from earlier films (admittedly I think the Death Star returning works because it makes sense why the emporer would try again and it was also a trap for the rebels), cute animals being added in to simply make money from merchandise (I love the Ewoks buts even I had to admit their introduction into the third film seems odd), and Harrison does not really caring about Star Wars lol.

@@bradhorowitz2765 Also, just to give production context, the Ewoks were not put into the film just because of merch. Lucas wanted to implement a plot thread where a technologically inferior society defeated an advanced one. It was originally going to be the Wookies, but they had already been established as advanced as Chewbacca could use a blaster. As a result, a new species was created (from 'Woo-kie' to 'E-wok') (Additionally, having the more innocent creatures win against the Empire complements the more optimistic tone for the end of the trilogy) I'm curious, what plot points (disregarding the sequels) would you say were repeated post-ROTJ?

@@emme In Star Wars Legends and Expanded Universe Luke creates a new Jedi Order. His new Order is very different from the previous one, they allow attachments including marriage and children. Luke and Qui Gon knew that the answer is to have attachments and to process your feelings in a healthy way so that you won’t go over to the dark side. Luke’s attachments to his friends and his father is what saved him, and his father Anakin. The previous Jedi Order was wrong to forbid attachments, also they were too attached to the Republic and power. They were too subservient to corrupt senators and elites, they were too detached from the average people of the galaxy. Whereas the Jedi in the new Order spend most of their time among the ordinary people in the galaxy rather than in some Jedi temple. The truth is that the previous Jedi Order and the Republic both needed to fall. The previous Order was too stuck in their ways, and the Republic was too corrupt. The previous Order was too dogmatic, and they had become arrogant. They were so focused on serving the Republic that they didn’t notice what the Sith were doing, and they lost their connection to the living force.

This one was my favorite growing up. The final arc with Vader and Luke is just so amazing. That "I am a Jedi, like my father before me." line gives me chills every time, and I feel like to some extent that moment, summed up in that line, is what gave Vader the most real chance at redemption. Palpatine has an almost comical rotation of apprentices succeeding apprentices, Vader himself having killed Count Dooku at Palpatine's urging. But when Vader's time was up, his would-be successor showed him mercy instead. (And it doesn't hurt that that person was his kid) It was cool watching you go through the whole trilogy, and the big blowout ending in RoTJ. Of course, there's still plenty more Star Wars to go around! Not sure if you're going to tackle the Mandalorian next, or the Sequel trilogy next, but either way I'm here for it.

I've enjoyed Emme's chronological watch so much! Especially if you already know the Vader/Luke twist from pop culture I think she has shown that a chronological first watch is the way to go. Seeing all the characters come together in a New Hope (just the first Vader/Leia scene alone has much more meaning when you know their backstory) and the entire planet of Alderaan being destroyed has much more meaning when you've seen Leia's family and the planet in the prequels and Obi-Wan. And something that I originally didn't like, Hayden's force ghost at the end of this movie, now gives that scene greater meaning if you've already seen the relationship between him, Yoda and Obi-Wan in the prequels and Clone Wars. I don't know if anything will ever beat the shock of "I am your father" but for people that already know that twist there's way more to be gained by watching chronologically. Thanks Emme!

Return of the Jedi has been my favorite movie for as long as I can remember. When I was little, it was because of the ewoks. (Notice the term ewok never appears in the movie. It's a term that came out with all the merchandise for the movie.) When I got older and could actually understand the movie, it was because of my absolute favorite movie scene of all time. 37:50 is the only scene between father and son when they aren't fighting or dying. I've seen that scene a million times ,and I still get so riveted every time I see it. Luke, so hopeful, fighting for his father's soul, Anakin, so resigned to his doomed fate... 3:00 If you thought RotJ was just copying ANH by bringing back the Death Star, I've got some bad news for you about the sequel trilogy... 36:20 Obviously, this movie was written before the prequels, so it wasn't written yet that their mother died when they were born. The only thing that could explain why Leia has memories of Padme and Luke doesn't is that for some reason the Force made it that way. Maybe Bail told Leia about Padme, and the Force gave her visions she thought were memories. And the thing about sensing someone in the Force is that there has to be an emotional bond. I think feelings actually matter more than blood, so Vader couldn't sense his twin children because he had no bond with them until Empire Strikes Back, when he started to form a bond with Luke. Luke and Vader could sense each other, Luke and Leia could sense each other, but Leia and Vader couldn't, and Palpatine couldn't sense either of the twins, but Palpatine and Vader could sense each other because they had a master/apprentice bond, evil as it was. Obi-Wan could sense everyone because he knew and had strong feelings for everyone. I don't think Leia felt Vader on the command ship, but when Luke sensed it and said so, Leia's bond with Luke told her he was telling the truth, so she sort of sensed Vader THROUGH Luke. And, actually, most of us feel like Leia would be more vulnerable to the Dark Side than Luke. She has her father's temper.

Also the original pop tune from Jaba's palace was "Lapti Nek" which got replaced in this version (due to a petty royalties dispute) with "Jedi Rocks".

@@ninjabluefyre3815It's probably nostalgia. Nothing wrong with that, people can have different opinions. It's all subjective anyway. The old ending was silly and doesn't fit to be the end of 6 great films. My opinion.

Luke didn't keep Vader's mask/helmet because it symbolized the reign of the Empire, the Dark Side, etc. But most importantly, it represented the period of Anakin's life where he was a Sith. With the Emperor dead, the Death Star II destroyed, and Vader killed, the long reign of the Galactic Empire was over, so no point in memorializing anything from that era. From a Jedi standpoint, Luke probably felt it best to destroy Vader's suit, lest future Jedi discover it and become curious about the ways of the Sith.

Luke was like Padmé in many ways, especially personally wise. The I know there’s good in you is the most obvious. I think that’s why Anakin/Vader had such a strong sense of him. And you can definitely see her in him, when he is before the emperor in the final battle.
@jmwilliamsart Жыл бұрын
Indeed, Luke inherited Padme’s heart, that’s how he was able to get through to Anakin. I’m sure that Padme would also want Anakin to stop hating himself, and to forgive himself. I think that there was a possibility that Padme could’ve gotten through to Anakin (episode 3) if not for Obi Wan being there. Both Padme and Luke gave Anakin what the Jedi never did, and that is family, love, and compassion.

The debate about the title "Return of the Jedi" goes like this...some people think it is in reference to the Return of the Jedi Order through Luke Skywalker, the other is it's the Return of "THE" Jedi Anakin Skywalker. Either way, Anakin fulfilled his Destiny and saved the Galaxy.

Padme understood that Anakin’s wrath in ROTS was driven by the emotional turmoil he was feeling, and by Palatine manipulating him. Both Padme and Anakin asked if the other was alright. She had already forgiven him before her untimely passing, and that she never stopped loving him.

40:35 Emme fun fact but the old guy with the beard is thought to be Rex. It’s not 100% but in the old EU he was known as Nik Sant, but Dave Filoni (creator of the clone wars 2008 series) says in his head cannon that the old guy is Rex and during Star Wars celebration 2016, they brought up concept art of Rex in Endor gear, so it’s highly likely the old guy is Rex.

The Rule of 2 was devised to keep the Sith going when they were all but wiped out, to fight the Jedi without starting a fight they couldn't win. When the Emperor took over he took out the Jedi, so there was no longer any need for the Rule. That's why Vader had his apprentice Starkiller, and trained the Inquisitors, there could be as many Sith as they wanted.

They were constantly killing each other for power also, it's not cannon but in the games that took part 10,00 years before the first film. Before the Disney sale and they removed them from being able to be cannon Lucas was on board with the stories, Revin was a great character to follow.

These have been great reactions! (watched the Prequel trilogy, Rogue, and these Original Trilogy reactions). I had always been against timeline reactions, but these have changed my mind. You dont have the same "aha" moments that I did, but you still have those reactions just in different places. I spotted callbacks in the prequels and rogue one to stuff from the original trilogy... while you were overjoyed by seeing how your favourite characters continued into the Original trilogy... Its a different reaction, but I can see you are now just as engrossed in Star Wars as I was :) I'm strongly thinking about introducing my little one in this way as well (ep1 & 2, clone wars, ep3, rebels, solo, rogue one etc etc etc)

It is very interesting how especially female reactors often have clear opinions about whether Leia should pick Han or Luke (at least before knowing about the sibling thing). Some thinks it should 'obviously' be Han, others equally 'obvious' Luke. Fun to see how they represent two different kinds of attractive men and that it varies from person to person whom to pick.

The reason why Emperor Palpatine didn't sense Luke is because at this point in time Luke is a fully trained Jedi Knight and he was using a sense blocking technique, but for a split second Vader almost messed it up. Luke didn't listen to Yoda and Obi-Wan in Empire Strikes Back and rushed off not in control of his abilities,in order to rescue Han from Jabba, he knew he had to be stronger in the Force. He completes his own training in order to do this and in order to create a new lightsaber (which you see how hard it is in the Clone Wars series to get your Kyber Crystal). Jabba should have bargained. As powerful as Palpatine is, his forthsight doesn't see two important things, Ewoks that turned the tide of the War against the Empire and he didn't see his apprentice giving him the shaft. LoL.

To understand why Leya "remembers" her mother you have to watch the Kenobi series: He told her how her mother was, so she may have false memories... otherwise, as you said, Luke would remember, too. Darth Vader had a mechanical hand since before he married Padmé, but Luke sees that the story repeats itself if he give in to anger. Ahahah, of course Vader is not the Anakin you remember, he burnt. I also think it's sad that Leya did not meet Anakin/Vader as a redeemed man

False memories???
@brezzainvernale2 жыл бұрын
@@Xlen-omega Yeah, when you THINK to remember something... never happend to you? You know, when you are convinced you were on a party because they talked about it but in reality you were not... when you are convinced that someone said something, or someone looked in a way but was not so? With the years, memory can lie to you... So if someone says: "She was tall and had brown hair" maybe years later you think you saw that person yourself... Maybe I used the wrong term. What would you call it? "changed" memory?

I got off the Disney Star Wars wagon years ago, and so can't speak to those series (which I consider apocryphal, and not worth my time), but in Ep3, Luke is born with eyes closed and Leia is shown with eyes open. Not something you'd expect her to remember, but maybe the Force enhances memories.

There's an EU book where she meets his ghost after TROTJ and she tells him she wants nothing to do with him. She finds out more about him as Anakin and his life as a slave and everything he went through, and eventually forgives him. In canon though, nothing. She learns that his fall to the dark side was based off fear of losing Padme and how Palpatine manipulated him. But nothing about meeting him.

Honestly, Vader would have had a much better chance of turning Leia. She may look more like Padme, but she inherited her father's temper. And her rage at the destruction of Alderaan and Vader's part in it (which granted was mostly standing there as Tarkin gave the order because Anakin thought the whole thing was a stupid idea, but Leia had no way of knowing that) would have been all Vader or Palpatine would have needed to turn her.
