Star Wars: Inside the B-Wing

I have decided to create another inside-out animation of an iconic Alliance starship, the B-Wing from Star Wars, all in 3D. Enjoy.
First appeared in Return of the Jedi, the B-wing starfighter made its mark as an iconic spacecraft nonconforming to a traditional design. Despite its short appearance, the B-wing helped diversified an already impressive arsenal of ships in the Star Wars Universe and frequently reappears in other Star Wars canon and legend works. The cockpit for the B-wing is inspired by the early concept arts of the Millennium Falcon.
In Star Wars canon, the B-wing is said to be designed and produced by the Rebel Alliance after the Battle of Yavin, manufactured by Slayn & Korpil, who also builds the V-19 Torrent Starfighter, and the MG-100 Star Fortress, seen in the Last Jedi. The MG-100 Starfortress shares many commonalities with the B-wing, as is apparent in its design.
Designed to land horizontally in the hangar, and fly either vertically or horizontally as needed, the vessel features a cockpit mounted on a gyroscopic system. This system allows the cockpit to level with the horizon no matter the orientation of the vessel. This unique design also allows for the pilot to concentrate on flying and targeting enemy ships, while evading incoming fire. The stabilization system also minimizes g-stress when performing evasive maneuvers. The B-wing only has a crew of one, but unlike its Imperial counterpart, the TIE bomber, the B-wing comes equipped with a hyperdrive system, shielding, and much faster speed. The cockpit also features an ejector seat for the pilot, as well as an emergency disconnect system to quickly sever the pod from the rest of the starfighter. This pod also contains a separate sublight engine for navigation after disconnection. Another variant of the B-wing, the B-6, also contains another gunner turret at the tail end of the craft and a more extensive weapon system.

I just picked up the Comic-Con version.... it’s so badass. Plan to place lighting in it and even little miniature screens in the cockpit (yeah, crazy I know.... but they actually sell miniaturized screens that small!)

You'll have to hope for spinoff Star Wars movie that focus on starfighter pilots in space fleet. There are few independent filmmakers that have interest in making spinoff but evil Mickey Mouse Disney refused unless they pay high price for the franchise

They cut alot of B-wing footage from ROTJ due to green screen issues. I don't know why Lucas didn't try to put it back in in the special edition. Instead we got "nooooooooo!"

B wing is and always will be my favorite Star Wars, Star Fighter. And the Star Wars: Rebels, episode was great. The B-wing reminds me of the British Mosquito light bomber. Maybe not as fast as say the X wing, but can carry a bigger load out and I suspect go further, plus better shields. If I had to compare it to a US light bomber, maybe the B-26? Any ways I have a lego model of the B-Wing, that I even built a stand for.

It was really neat to see the B-Wing make it's return during the battle of Exogol in Star Wars Episode 9:The Rise of Skywalker even though it was just a brief shot of it from behind when it and other ships destroyed the Super Planet destroyer cannon on the underside of the Sith Star Destroyer.

i dont think the tie bomber would be the counter part for the B wing, it would be the tie Defender, Agile and packs a punch, the Y wing and the tie bomber are indeed counter parts, being main destructive space crafts but slow and with low manoeuvrability.

Technically the B wing was designed by another quarren named quarry, who’s prototype had a composite beam laser that could cripple an arquedins class light cruiser and do major damage to IsD’s ( it was originally built as a blockade buster with the composite beam)

For something this big, it doesn't that much of a footprint in a hangar bar. Although, it doesn't carry nearly enough ordances. It seems the y-wing carries just as many proton torpedo's. For it being a "bomber" I would have expected it to carry loads akin to an A-10. The could have used the large wing blade to have more ordinance in it.

Very interesting that a single torpedo launcher is placed at the edge next to the laser canon. Here I was thinking many torpedoes warheads were launched from the air intake area, through the thrust nozzles. Very interesting.

In the older games and blueprints, that's where they were launched from but I guess they retconned it to the laser cannon area. You can fire two torpedoes at a time but I don't see two launchers so I'm not sure this new design is accurate.

from what read of cannon books and such the b-wing speed was faster than a y-wing and slower than an xwing and had more armor and shields than both, was almost as agile in dog fight as an xwing. and it was faster than the tie bomber.

Originally it was Ackbar who designed the B-Wing, that was the case in the X-Wing game series and all the old Extended Universe books, then they changed it in Rebels.

The B Wing is by far the coolest star fighter ever designed. Might not be the most effective, the most maneuverable or the the best at anything. except the best at being the sexiest. The thing is a corvette and frigate killer.

If space is a vacuum, i believe that there is no air (i.e. atmosphere) that could cool the engines in space. That could work in a place where there is an atmosphere that could produce the cooling effect needed, but do they work in the vacuum of space or does the ship use the coldness of space to cool down the engines ?

You have to understand that Star Wars' concept of space is a little unusual. There is something called the ether that seems to give space a somewhat atmospheric quality, and explains how spacecraft in the galaxy far far away maneuver in ways that are very different than the space craft we are familiar. I don't understand the details, but its almost like there's something in space that the ship can grasp to maneuver or can duct into its engines to cool them down.

Again, a relatively slow and ponderous "bomber" (more a strike fighter-bomber) without any rearward defensive armaments. Not even a droid controlled turret. Also, the tip of the main wing is probably the worst possible location for the ordinance launchers. Or for the other armaments, which should be placed close to the middle for maximum concentrated firepower and accuracy. Just put all the armements in the center body between the folding wings and use the entire main wing for cooling instead. Makes much more sense. Nice animation as always though.
