That’s what always got me with Darkside play throughs, even with the Jedi. You show up on Dantooine after the destruction of Taris with your disgusting ass face smelling of the taint of the Darkside, and they’re like, “we should train him to use the force!”.

That's why I had my dark side playthrough started out light and thus providing a reason why the Jedi trained Revan. Upon realizing the truth, that is when Revan started the descent to the dark side on Korriban. I had the spare Mission mod so I could make my dark side Revan more sympathetic and someone who didn't want to kill everyone but was deceived and his anger clouding him.

Admittedly, this ending is more badass and darker than every other Dark Side ending for SWTOR. You betray the Jedi, kill your friends, eliminate your threats, corrupt your allies, defeat Malak, get the girl, use her to turn the tide of the space battle, and then become the reborn Emperor of a new Sith Empire. In the words of Conan, what is best in life? "Crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentations of their women!"

I somewhat like that KOTOR isn't canon because nothing is set in stone. How Revan acted before the events of the game and what happens after it is almost exclusively head-canon, and the player decides what happens in game. Knights Of The Old Republic is a near-perfect role-playing game for the SW universe.

+Malc180s I disagree. KotOR as awesome as it was, it was just a cliche hero fairy tale, with a jawdropping plot twist. It was cool but nothing inventive really, nonetheless a really awesome game. Now, KotOR 2, it had problems with content being cut etc, we all know that. But man it was soooo different from original KotOR. Different in a new, good way. It left behind the sterotypes that Lucas left us with. Blue/Jedi - good, space messiah. Red/Sith = evil, villain and satanist. KotOR 2 was way more dark, way more mature. An M Rated Star Wars story one could say. You are right about story being "odd". Because this game was not like KotOR, it didn't really stand on story, it stood on characters and dialogue. Just think about how complex, how deep, how enigmatic and how interesting of a character Kreia was. It is in my opinion the best character ever written for a video game. The game showed us so many shades of gray morality, it really got player's brain going. It showed us how both Jedi and Sith religion are flawed and really... similar, in some twisted way. They were just two power parties disagreeing with each other. And the whole galaxy suffered a great deal of that disagreement. They both were narrow minded, stubborn and ignorant in their beliefs. And the galaxy payed the price. Then the Jedi still had the dignity to say they are worldsaviors. The game also explores The Force much more. No of that midichlorians bullcrap, it had so much depth to it. Again about the "odd" story, KotOR told the story of Jedi Civil War, KotOR 2 shows us the consequences of that war, in the darkest manner possible. This is no hero story like the original KotOR. Kreia tells us this herself : *Perhaps you were expecting some surprise, for me to reveal a secret that had eluded you, something that would change your perspective of events, shatter you to your core. There is no great revelation, no great secret. There is only you.* I admit that the Peragus intro is boring and linear, game still could use more fleshing out, combat is very unbalanced, as a Sith Guardian I was oneshotting bosses. Literally. I did oneshot Sion, twoshot Nihilus and twoshot Traya. It was riddiculous. PC is way too OP in the mid-to-end game. I remember playing KotOR 2 10 years ago, I was then 12 y/o and I loved KotOR, I had the same experience with KotOR 2 as you. I disliked it and was disappointed. I just replayed it last week and I fell in love with it. I am replaying KotOR 1 now and I am put off with the good/evil morality choices. I either help people, give them bonus medpacks and credits for a good measure, for absolutely no reason, or I kill them just because I feel like it. It really gets me out of the game, the binary system of morality. I think you should replay the game and bite deeper into its core. Listen to the characters, think about events that occured and really take a deep dive into this dark, dark aftermath of Jedi Civil War.

+borek92 I've played it through twice - once when it came out and once a couple of years back with the mods. I'm not saying it was a bad game, I just found it immensely unsatisfying. Sure, it's not a hero, good vs evil game like the first, but for me that just made it aimless. And fine, the good/evil and no grey area is perhaps a little frustrating in KOTOR1, but that's just star wars! With KOTOR1 the pacing was perfect, the intrigue throughout was huge, the characters were all fantastic, the way it ended was exciting and different to everything that had gone before.. It was all so perfectly star wars. And it was all so unexpected - I had no idea how much I'd get caught up in it.. KOTOR2 just always felt unfinished, and I remember thinking that within 30 minutes of playing it 10 years ago. That line of dialogue you quoted - "*Perhaps you were expecting some surprise, for me to reveal a secret that had eluded you, something that would change your perspective of events, shatter you to your core. There is no great revelation, no great secret. There is only you.*" - I always thought that felt like an afterthought in the story, some rubbish to tie everything together a little. I really think that was written to paste over the fact the game was 6 months from completion on release. Maybe it could've been a great game, but as it is it's just a disappointment.

Right.....reminds me of the fact that HK-47 in KOTOR II calls the Jedi Pseudo-pacifists. lol. True words that I agree with. i really need to re-install KOTOR II because it made sense the whole choices thing because I did something evil I peeved another character off and lost their influence, that's a bit more how real life is in many respects. I loved Kreia because of the way her mind works and she really knew how to string your npcs along. Whereas KOTOR I no matter how hard I peeve off Bastila, Carth, or Juhani they still stick with my character to the bitter end and in a dark side play through I am pretty sure Bastila hates my guts and yet still kisses my character and is in love with my character. That's so totally not realistic.

It seems that those who are seduced by the dark side sometimes have a selective memory. Bastila talked a great game about how the Jedi wanted to control and exploit her, but she completely ignored how Malak sadistically tortured her and only spared her life because of what the Jedi also wanted - to use her battle meditation to win the war. And there was that whole thing about how Revan, even as the Dark Lord of the Sith, wasn't immune to the threat of betrayal and was nearly killed by his apprentice. The Jedi may have erased his memory and hid their true intentions, but at least with the Jedi he was given a second chance.

Uganda Führer Trivia: That armor you obtain at the Star Forge is actually just Revan's armor but without the mask and the hood. I remember owning a mod that replaced that armor with an actual Revan's armor as seen in the cutscenes and in kotor 2 on korriban. And interestingly enough, the light side version of that armor also had a proper mask texture, despite the mod not adding or changing any textures whatsoever. Unfrotunately, with Filefront long dead, I don't think I'll ever be able to find that mod again (I also had a really cool texture mod for both Revan's armor and for Darth Malak, making the final battle look reaaaaally cool).

I'd argue that it's indispensible for dark side Revan to have Bastila at his side with his play for power. Not only is her battle meditation needed to ensure the Star Forge doesn't get destroyed by the Republic's fleet, but Revan needs Bastila to corroborate his/her identity AS Revan. With such an outlandish claim it really helps to have someone to back up your story.

My problem with most RPG's, especially older ones, is that when you try to run a villain you aren't running a well-written character. You are running either a complete douchenozzle (I.E: I did it for the evulz) or you are running the worst villain on the planet because you just happen to keep doing good things unintentionally despite the fact that you keep TRYING to join the big-bad but get betrayed after 11 nanoseconds because the villains all think to themselves "hmm, this guy keeps bringing me literally everything I am after while the rest of my agents fail miserably, better kill him" It leads to this retarded dynamic where your "Villain" keeps accidentally saving the world despite actively trying to skull-fuck it because the bad guys don't see the value in keeping your character around. At least this one does the ending villain choices well by making them seem truly evil and being successful in screwing over the universe, but the problem with this one is the path to get there is retarded because all of the evil choices up until this point fall under "douchenozzle" rather than "evil" why do no RPG's allow you to be a magnificent bastard rather than scumbag steve?

Situations103 I said especially older ones, Modern RPG's are not exempt, but I would say Mass Effect, I will say right now that the Paragon/Renegade path is not good/evil, I will be the first to admit that. But I've always seen the renegade path as riding that very fine line between good and evil, with paragon being the very obvious 'Big damn hero' and Renegade being that ruthless type who does whatever the hell he has to for what he believes is right. Again this is NOT a good/evil scenario I am very much aware of it, but the character is well written no matter which path you take. Fable 3 is another RPG that did the specific good/evil choices justice, by making the "evil" path be the road taken for the purpose of ensuring everyone's survival and the "good" path, while still being quite possible to save everyone, was more time-consuming and difficult without the same guarantee. So whichever path you take you are continuing to run a pretty good character story, I.E: "I Did what I had to, to save us!" (Evil Path) or "What matters is not THAT we win, its HOW we win, and I will not sacrifice my humanity just to improve our chances" (good path) In older RPG's your characters fall into villainy can be summed up as "hey... Wanna blow up the world? Sweet lets do this" by no means is this done too much better in Modern RPG's but alot of RPG's with character driven stories lately don't even have the option of going evil, but the options and diverging paths they do have for their characters make sense. It's more relevant in older RPG's because when you choose to turn evil, the game just sort of runs out of justifiable reasons for your character to continue on the path the game is trying to make you walk.

yarpen26 Actually I'd like to counter what you just said. Looking at KOTOR, doing a pure Dark Side playthrough nets you more credits and experience. You don't have to believe me, you can find it on any walkthrough guide or tally up the points yourself. Also, along the dark side path, often times the dark side choices allow you to cut corners (ESPECIALLY if you have dominate mind which is awsome) while still reaping the rewards. What I'm trying to say is that the game itself counters your initial statement; the dark side DOES aim for the goal regardless of consequences and often times succeeds. The dark side play through is efficient and satisfying leaving you with a wealth of experience (both literal and figurative) and credits ;D The dark side play through may not be for the mild mannered, but it definitely is more rewarding in terms of items, credits, and experience. Being a douche is just an added bonus, it's very fun.

Turn KoToR 2: Emperor Revan into a drawn out strategy and politics game? Hell yes! Imagine having to deal with feuding Sith fucking up your command chain, re-establishing Korriban as the Academy and its curriculum, planning your campaigns for your fleets and legions to subdue the galaxy as it forms a rebellion against your rule, establishing battle doctrines, (getting an heir, how could I forget?), fucking Manaan's neutrality with a tactical insertion team that cripples their leadership so that they can't even fuck up the kolto, establishing Jedi hunts, finding Carth and deal with him, convert powerful Jedi, occasional fleet to fleet combat when your fleet needs your brilliant guidance supported by Bastilla's battle meditation, establishing recruitment policies (those ships aren't going to man themselves), dealing with budget (oh god...), making deals with other powers or subdue or kill them (why not turn Czerka into state property? Or destroy the Hutt Cartel?), deal with ambitious Sith, get back Mandalore's mask and have the Mandolorians serve you as elite shock troops and trainers, the list goes on! Only to have it all come to a bad spot when the Sith Empire comes from Dromund Kaas, knocking on your Empire's doorstep and wanting to fight for the galaxy.

I always loved this ending...kind of poetic justice, they screwed with Revan's mind and after he uncovers the truth he seeks revenge! I was only sad that Mission, Carth, Jolee and Juhani have to die (I got attached to my companions!) It is also sad that darkside Bastilla is right! The Jedi discourage their brightest students from becoming better! Bastilla is just one example, another would Count Dooku (Yoda tried to discourage him from becoming the perfect duelist for lightsaber against lightsaber combat!) and Anakin (who would have needed to become a true master - and gain access to the collection of darkside artifacts - in order to not be easily swayed by Sidious!), hell Ahsoka and Ashara Zavros were also discouraged (hell, the Jedi outright betrayed Ahsoka!)....so yeah, the Jedi order was truly rotten!

Sanguiluna Not true. It's just that the definitive canon is a set of tightly scripted and important points. Shepard's canon is that they always died between ME1 and ME2, and always ended up on earth between ME2 and ME3. Then always saved the galaxy. In Dragon Age: Origins, the Warden and their companions always stop the blight. Point being, the really major part, the part that shapes the entirety of that universe, always remains the same, so they can build off it. They achieve this by limiting your choice to within the confines of that narrative. KOTOR gives you two options essentially, A: Good Revan saves the Republic, or B: Bad Revan destroys the Republic. Now if you're going to write a story that takes place after that game, YOU NEED TO PICK ONE. If you say "Why not both?" then you're fucked because those universes are so completely different that you need to write at least two entirely different stories and essentially create two entire games worth of content, and, if you hadn't noticed, they really didn't even have time to create enough content for ONE game, let alone two during the squeal. So yeah, that's their reason. I wouldn't call it an excuse because that's not what it is.

I love the Dark Side ending*. IMO this ending definitely feels like it's the right ending. I always thought the Light ending was... lacking. Like "Oh. Okay. Fine. Just like that? Kay. Take your shiny medal and GTFO."

I've never played this game but I like how complex and well done the evil ending is, you don't find that often in video games. They actually put in some effort in to make it a viable option.
