Telling the boy after a few weeks training, "You must confront Vader. Only then will you be a Jedi." That was pretty much sending Luke to his death. If Luke hadn't chosen to use his own strategy (as he suggested from the beginning), attempting to use compassion to turn Vader back to good, Luke would have been killed. @theterrorofdimensions13263 жыл бұрын
Sidious was a master of all of the Lightsaber Forms, which was ironic because he actually *hated* using the Lightsaber at all. He believed that his power in the Force was at a level where the use of a Lightsaber was redundant or not even necessary at all. That said, he did understand the value of using a Lightsaber at all, and it's why he always kept one nearby. @@MuchWhittering I really recommend the novelization. Matt Stover digs into how the Force has “grown dark,” and is not as receptive to the Jedi as they would like it to be. that's actually good thing, from a certain point of view. since we only see a quick scenes of them exchanging during combat, it lets the viewers and fans fill in the blanks of how epic this fight actually was by using our imaginations or reading about it in the EU books, video games, and comics.

George Lucas probably wanted to keep 20th Century Fox executives happy by keeping the movie on budget and on time (the fight would have been a lot longer). That was palpie’s greatest strength and greatest weakness. His psychopathy and sadism powered his lightning to unprecedented levels of destruction. But that same sadism always drove him to hold back and savor the suffering of his prey. His addiction to inflicting pain and misery was his undoing. If roasting Luke alive in an instant was the point, he’d have done it. But no, he had to torture him to death while gloating over him. If he hadn’t been such a dick about it, maybe Vader would have let it slide. 🤷🏻♂️

Even though Sidious outsmarted Yoda in area advantage, Yoda did overpower him in the end but unfortunately Sidious got lucky enough to barely hang on to a pod edge and Yoda was sent off the edge due to his smaller size and forced to retreat. Agree. Unfortunately, yoda struggles to obtain the high ground during a fight because he's so short. but it was clear lightsaber-wise they were evenly matched, and Force-wise Yoda was too powerful for palpatine. He retreated because he realized he'd lost on an ideological level and his order had collapsed and fallen out of favor with the republic. Luke would have to restart the order without the arrogance and corruption later on.

Yoda COULD have won the fight, but retreated because he realized he'd lost on an ideological level; palpatine had taken over the republic, destroyed the jedi order, and corrupted the chosen one. I think the books say he had a precognition of Master Jinn through the living force telling him that the force had a different plan for the jedi to obtain victory and triumph over the dark side, and that was why he left after he fell down.

Well maybe but overall I think Sidious would have won if it had gone on longer. They never state or show this in the movie but in the books they explain Yoda actually took a lot of damage blocking all that force lightning and he never fully recovered from it ( Luke actually was also in fairly bad shape for awhile after RotJ due to taking so much of Sidious's force lightning) which was a smaller reason why he never tried to challenge Sidious again, the main reason thoug hwas like HoBoMiKe said he had lost the bigger fight for public image. If he had taken Sidious down the public would have turned on him because he would have literally done the thing Sidious had set the Jedi up to be falsely doing, trying to kill him and taker over the republic

Palpatine is actually using it as a way to inflict fear in his opponent so they’ll be less confident. This doesn’t work at all on Yoda though, in fact Palpatine was actually scared to keep the fight going at close quarters because Yoda’s dueling skill is insane and his strikes are extremely fast. It’s why Palpatine quickly transitioned to a battle of Force power because he knew he’d have a better chance at beating Yoda with his Force abilities and power.

Yoda: *walks into a room* Level 1 enemies: *instantly die*
@Hellothere-gg8id11 ай бұрын
This fight perfectly reflects how little Sidious knew about Yoda's combat abilities. He hits him with force lightning and starts to mock him. However when Yoda easily gets up and launches him across the room, he realizes that Yoda might not be an easy opponent to beat. Therefore he tries to flee but Yoda blocks his path, forcing him to engage in lightsaber combat. There he tries gaining an advantage by trying all forms of lightsaber combat on Yoda, but when that fails aswell, he again retreats to use his force abilities. From that point he is fighting with his full power, but even then he cannot get an upper hand. So he tries to keep his distance as he knows that he would win in a draw, because more clones are coming and his empire would still stand. This plan, despite Yoda being able to close the gap, ultimately succeeds.

Crazy to think how Windu out dueled one of the most powerful Sith Lords ever. He was superior in lightsaber combat but was betrayed by Anakin. Yoda didn’t even technically best him the way Mace did
@hopy513 жыл бұрын
To be fair, Windu fought Palpatine in much better conditions. He was in his prime, the battle was in a much better place and under much less pressure. Yoda on the other hand is way past his prime here, the place of the fight couldn't be any worse (Palpatine lured him into the senate and made sure to get the "high ground"), and he had to win very fast before the clones arrive. So while Yoda did worse than Windu, it wasn't much worse. He didn't win, but he also didn't lose. At the end Palpatine got hurt less just because he stood deeper inside the platform.
@jixer19563 жыл бұрын
Yoda disarmed Palpatine of his lightsaber as well offscreen, hence why he's attacking with the force instead when the film cuts back to their fight. Palpatine was pretending to be weak after Windu disarmed him. He's far from defenseless without a lightsaber.
@digitaladventurer21422 жыл бұрын
Sidious actually hated using a Lightsaber and felt Sith should only need to rely on the force. He really only used it as a way to mock the Jedi. I feel if Sidious had actually had a liking for Lightsaber combat he might have actually been able to take Mace out.

I love the abundance of symbolism in this duel. First, the obvious one of the struggle between good and evil. The epitome of the good and noble Jedi and the epitome of the evil and repugnant Sith clashing with the full fury and might of their respective causes and beliefs, a battle of supremacy of the light and dark sides of the Force. Though the Jedi/Light loses the duel itself, it wins in the long term in the form of Yoda retreating and surviving to teach Luke who will ultimately bring about the fall of the Sith/Dark. The dark side is more directly powerful, but comes at a heavy cost that never pays off in the end, whilst the light side may not be so directly powerful but does pay off in the end with enlightenment and peace. Second, the downfall of democracy. The duel taking place in the Galactic Senate, the seat of the Republic's democratic process for over three thousand years, shows where democracy has become a battleground with the voices of the people (in the form of the senate pods) being silenced by the evil corruption until only that evil's voice remains to speak, yet Yoda throwing that one pod back at him symbolises how new voices will rise to challenge Sidious' in the future with support from the old ones.

This was probably the most interesting battle for the fact we got Yoda the angel-hearted old tiny Jedi demonstrating demonic acrobatics, and that's after the fact Sidious is attempting an escape, which he didn't even attempt against Windu, that alone should make anyone aware of why Yoda is feared as a duelist and force use combo.

Yoda obviously won that force battle. The reason why he fell back so hard was because there was nothing behind him. Just look. Sidious is sitting firmly inside the senate platform, Yoda is standing on the edge and is yeeted off the platform, but sidious hits the seat and does a backflip, greatly reducing the pushback. Also consider that Yoda is like 1/5th the mass of Sidious, conservation of momentum applies. They are both hit with the same explosion of the force, but Yoda is much lighter so he was affected more. Looking back on it, I'm surprised Yoda didn't fall back further.
