@@fix0the0spade except for the fact that it barely survived engagement with 2 ISDs from relatively safe position and got completely stomped when it actually got into a killzone of Devastator. It doesnt have an incredible survivability of MC80(shields are comparatively bad and it doesn't have heavy armor on most of its vital points),it has very few weapons with shitty layout(it can only fire half its weapons per broadside with really bad firing arcs),and it can't effectively carry and deploy starfighters(it has only one ISD style hanger,which doesn't really work with rebel starfighters because of lack of landing platforms and maintenance space,which also means it can't really accommodate shuttles). It might be enough to beat smaller or older imperial warships like Victory/Venator,but it's no match for an ISD,which was the main source of problems for Rebels. It could have worked just fine as a heavy carrier,but again,it doesn't. If rebels had Home One at Scarif(and we know that they had it by that point of time,but it supposedly ran off with most of the senators or simply was unavailable),they would have been able to openly engage both ISDs,pummel shield gate into dust with turbolaser fire and end the battle way before Devastator could arrive.

I oftentimes think that some star wars ships of battle aren't well made, or have many faults, then I remember they came out of a thousand years without a massive war, without the mass production of dedicated warships. For those not keeping up (not an insult btw) during the first world war, antiquated tactics we're not on par with designs or technological advancements, leading to many horrendous mistakes being made, prior to world war 1, there hadn't been a big war in just 40 years, so it's more than safe to assume that many of their typical ship designs and tactics we're ill suited for the conflicts they were employed, leading to multiple faults as a result.

Oh, so the reason for the long extended tower was that the whole ship was actually an underwater city in the first place? Actually I thought that, similar to most other Mon Calamari capital ships used by the rebellion, before being retrofitted into warships, they were actually commercial in nature, a commerce fleet so to speak. I think in old lore, they were actually large passenger liners that sadly were converted into the warships that were surprisingly capable enough not just as carriers, but as capital ships able to fight Star Destroyers. Maybe not win one on one battles, but at the same time, not so helpless. Kinda like strapping armor and guns unto a luxury cruise ship. Which is sadly what happened in old lore. Apparently every Mon Cal cruiser was uniquely designed, which I read made it very difficult logistically to repair them as no two Mon cal cruisers are alike, but at the same time, their different designs made the Imperials hard to pinpoint their weaknesses. Ultimately I think the strength of the Mon Cal cruisers wasn't in the strength of their shield generators, but that they had a lot of them all over the ship overlapping each other so had lots of layers of shields to get through. Plus more guns able to aim all around it I think, whereas Star Destroyers concentrate on the front facing. Despite all this, I still wish the bridge wasn't jutting out like that, but then again, as mentioned, it wasn't supposed to be a warship to begin with. Then again,, Star Wars has never been considered hard sci-fi in its design department. Nice video, thanks for making it.

You should do a video on the mc-85 cruiser.
@richardched60856 жыл бұрын
I always got the vibe that the MC80 Home One variant was able to take on 1-2 Star Destroyers at once and was comparable to the Original Battlestar Galactica in terms of reliability and it's use as the Flagship of a Rag-Tag Rebel Fleet and that any Rebel aboard the Home One would feel relatively "safe" compared to other ships or installations. Obviously this reliability didn't carry over to the MC85 Raddus which had powerful Shields but inferior Firepower.

Hi Spacedock! A question for you- I was just rewatching your video on vessel types (it's great, btw thanks for your excellent work!) And had a thought: Are there any series that mimic the paradigm shift that resulted from the launching of the HMS Dreadnaught in the period shortly before WW1? By this I mean a change in tactics or techniques of construction? In real life, many nations were forced to fully retire entire squadrons of ships or fall out of the arms race entirely due to this one ship, and I can't think of a single series that does this.

I've found that a model sized version of this Starship is easily breakable and fragile (I'll give you a guess on which spot snaps first). Not a good sign for the vessel itself lol.

The section between the command module and the main hull is just screaming to be snapped by concentrated fire. It's got the point defense to ward off a fairly decent sized fighter attack, but it wouldn't last long (seconds at most) if an enemy commander with any brains thought to focus fire there from a heavier ship than a fighter...

In Armada it is armed with close-range ordnance in front but its long-range batteries are on the sides. Why a warship would be armed this way is anyone's guess. But as a retrofitted cityship I guess that makes some sense.

CCS Battlecruiser. The Star Destroyer of Halo.
@Servellion6 жыл бұрын
@@revbladez5773 The CCS does as well. I mean it's got a less than a dozen dropships, but it has 50 banshees and 32 strike craft, a mix of Seraphs and Tarasque heavy bombers. So it's still kind of a battleship carrier hyrbid. Don't know if it has the ability to launch all that or if they have to teleport them out of the ship before deployment like they were with the Long Night of Solace's compliment.
@Servellion6 жыл бұрын
@@revbladez5773 Still it''s just conjecture on our part. Considering the SDV corvette had it's main space Banshee complement slung under the main hull, it may be the same with the CCS.

For some reason I have a feeling that Star Wars ships are not progressing at all. I can't feel any significant difference between Old Republic ships (Centurion class battlecruiser?) and Clone Wars period (Venator class). 3000 years of evolution and BC still needs to spend minutes to destroy another BC without shields. When single nuclear warhead would be completely enough. So, my question is: what's the point of making new ships in Star Wars? )) Is it like an iPhone? Newly released BC gets plot armor buff untile the next one is released? ))))
@sleepingbackbone75816 жыл бұрын
someone made "explanation" about that on youtube. something to do with almost constant wars and conflicts troughout history of the galaxy far far away. economy and control shifting from one to another is involved too. but yeah, 3000years seems like a lot of time to be lacking some significant tech progress.
@barghestblue44536 жыл бұрын
@@sleepingbackbone7581 There are improvements made in hyperspace speed, weapon fire rate, general destructiveness of weapons, layout, ship size, shield recharge time, etc. Basically a bunch of small improvements that together make the ship more effective than older generations, and increase it's ability to survive, but since it's all in lockstep, it doesn't LOOK like there's any improvements, but the OT era ships would dominate the ships of the SWOTOR games just due to what technological progression there was. It's just a very slow process.
@maximsavage6 жыл бұрын
@@barghestblue4453 Granted, but from a logical perspective, it's still far too slow. Look at humanity; despite constant war, since the industrial revolution, we've advanced more in the last 300 years than in the previous tens of thousands of years of human existence. Don't get me wrong, I love the Star Wars universe (at least the one before Disney acquired the franchise), but accepting its timeline requires suspension of disbelief, otherwise it can't exist.

I think the idea is they advanced so much to the point where they don't advanced as quickly anymore. There's a word for it but I don't remember it.
