You should check out some of the comics they published before Empire! They're collected in an omnibus called "Wild Space". It's an older book, not sure how much it'd cost to buy a copy these days. Worth checking out if you can find it though.

There are some good ideas and some absolutely atrocious ones. However, one thing that is for sure is that Episode VII, Episode VIII, and Episode IX and consequently anything that is connected to them should be completely wiped from canon and they should start again from scratch. This time with a team of filmmakers who are actually competent and, you know, good at creating films and who actually love & care about Star Wars and have a deep understanding & appreciation of the lore. And most importantly, ACTUALLY MAP OUT A COHERENT, COHESIVE PLAN FOR THE STORY THAT IS GOING TO BE TOLD OVER THE COURSE OF EPISODES VII, VIII, AND IX INSTEAD OF FUCKING FLY BY THE SEAT OF THEIR PANTS AND TACKLE EACH FILM WHEN THEY GET TO IT AND CONSEQUENTLY TELL A STORY THAT IS WILDLY INCONSISTENT IN EVERY WAY, ESPECIALLY TONE, CONTRADICTING ITSELF AT EVERY TURN BECAUSE THE PERSON WHO MADE VIII HAD A WILDLY DIFFERENT VISION FOR THE STORY & THE STAR WARS UNIVERSE THAN THE GUY WHO MADE VII DID AND THEN SAID GUY WHO MADE VII CAME BACK FOR IX AND BASICALLY INVALIDATED EVERYTHING VIII DID! VII: Hey here's all the things that matter and are important, the story is going in this direction VIII: Actually, none of those things matter and none of them are even remotely important. THESE things are important and also the story is actually going in this, completely different, direction now. IX: Actually, all those things actually ARE important and actually DO matter and all the things that were undone have now been redone and all those things that were said to be important instead actually don't matter at all and the story is actually going back in the direction it was originally going in now. Audience: Absolutely what the FUCK is even going on here?! Why is this the most schizophrenic film trilogy ever made?! But at least Episode VIII had some very interesting and original ideas and actually tried to expand the universe and do new things that hadn't been done before, instead of VII and IX, which were just boring & safe retreads of the previous films that didn't attempt to do anything new and just followed the same general outline of IV, V, & VI.

Also, Finn is not "a black clone soldier." He is a black Stormtrooper. None of the Stormtroopers are clones. The clones of The Clone Army were phased out of the Galactic Military pretty much immediately after the end of The Clone Wars, the fall of The Republic, and the creation of The Empire. Which is why Finn looks like Finn and not Jango/Boba Fett.

Splinter of the Mind's Eye has a second claim to fame in the modern Star Wars canon with Mimban, the mist-shrouded planet the story takes place on. It features prominently in the movie Solo as the world the Imperial ground battle scene takes place, where Han first meets Beckett. Droids is a guilty pleasure of mine. It may be corny as hell and hobbled by executive meddling, but it's got *heart,* y'know?

I remember watching the scene with the fairies burning the trees late at night, right before bed, with all the lights off and just listening to the static hiss of my old boxy tv. Ewoks, and Droids, are sadly forgotten shows which truly deserve more recognition. To me they were my first steps into the wider world of Star Wars, and helped sparked my imagination with their wonderful animation. I'm glad to know that these series aren't just left to rot somewhere in the wastebin of media.

Now that I think about it, they are called the Rebel "Aliance" so maybe there where originally 17 or more small groups of people that hated the Empire and started individual rebelions... You know what? That's my headcanon now, every proto-rebel group that appeared through the old Expanded Universe and the new spin-off eventually came together, sung "cumbaya", wrote an oficial manifiesto while hungover and that's how the Rebel Aliance was born

There was one year that my dad got us the Ewoks series on DVD when Clone Wars was on a break between seasons, because my brothers and I would just go apeshit without any Star Wars TV show to watch. I cannot emphasize how much I *hated* Ewoks. Not only did it not have Ahsoka in it, it didn't have ANYONE in it. I swear I had a home video of the Ewok cartoon when I was a kid, it must have been something my mom recorded off the tv then? I had no idea it was Star Wars related, it was just a weird fantasy teddy bear cartoon to me, but I absolutely loved it! I loved the weird creatures in it, they definitely screamed more “weird fantasy” than “science fantasy” and they felt really unique, unlike anything else I’ve seen in fantasy, I loved it.

As bad as the EU could get sometimes, I always thought having continuity for the canon was really cool. It was different, especially for the more kid-friendly things. I can't wait to revisit some of this again.

Ohhhh the nostalgia! I remember finding a VHS tape at Blockbuster Video that included episodes of Droids and Ewoks when I was about 10. My Mom let me rent it and I probably watched it about 4 or 5 times before I had to return it. Ewoks was more memorable to me for some reason despite it being weird even to my 10 year old mind. I liked it a lot at the time. Thanks for the retrospective.

That Ewok animated cell is sooooo cool! I would love to have something...anything that was actually connected to appearing on a Star Wars media (except Ep 7,8,9). Like Han Solo's blaster would be way way out of the realm of reality. But like something obscure. Maybe the communicator the snout nosed spy hax when he snitched to the Storm Troopers where the Millennium Falcon was in ep 1. What you have is better than a prop. It is like having a part of the film originally shot to capture everything. I would frame that behind some special uv protectant glass and hang it at home.

I recently saw clips from _Star Wars Detours_ during a vinescauce stream-someone sent Vinny a screenshot of a stumpy, THICC Vader and a KZbin link. I oddly have possible repressed memories of commercials for that show, but the run was so short that I hardly committed it to memory.

Jesus Christ, I was been certain that that Ewok movie was a figment of my imagination. I guess it got stuck into the car-movie rotation as a kid, so I must’ve watched it tens of times at a minimum and it just ingrained itself into my subconscious.
