Jun Sato is one of those characters that when I am trying to think of background characters I always seem to brush over, and yet EVERY SINGLE TIME I see this episode I lose it when he calls for crew to evacuate, and those two brave pilots decide to stay with him, knowing full well what they are about to do.

I think it would have been great if we had gotten another episode with Sato before his death, to really nail it in, but otherwise yeah his death will always hurt.

You see the contrast in Kallus' former life and this. When he barely survived the Geonosis moon, not one person in the Empire cared one wit for his well-being. When he barely survives the Empire, he is warmly received with great gratitude for his sacrifices by the Rebels. You can see in his eyes talking with Kanan, he sees the contrast as well.

Now we enter the endgame, this finale is brilliant. I love the way the Bendu basically says "Enough of all of you." Tom Baker really knocked this VO out of the park, the menace and sense of anger mixed at the end with one more dig at Thrawn was just amazing. The relationships in the series are just incredible and the way you just know that there was always more going on with Kanan and Hera than even they understood.

As much of a Thrawn fanboy as I am, I think this two parter is necessary to show he’s not infallible. As brilliant as a tactician as he is, this battle does show areas where he is weak in: - While Thrawn earns the respect of his protégés and crew members directly under him and they’ll follow his commands easily enough, he struggles with other officers like Konstantine because he still has to contend with the Empire’s xenophobia and internal power struggles, and being unable to control them in these situations can really harm him and he doesn’t have the political know how to figure out a solution. - Give Thrawn prep time and intel and he can be pretty unstoppable in a fight he chooses to participate in. Even when the plan goes awry he has enough improvisation ability to adjust accordingly. **BUT** he always struggles with The Force due to how unpredictable it can be hence how Bendu screwed up his victory and actually unnerved him. In the original novels that introduced him, Thrawn was at least able to counter it via the yslamari (little lizards that can stop the Force) but in Rebels he has nothing like that

Well, they were a counter, sure. But that was after 'Return of the Jedi' and a hard counter WAS going to be needed against Luke Skywalker, or else everything could very well fall apart. It's worth nothing the actual weakness of Thrawn and his tactical/strategic genius is much simpler: there are a lot of things he simply does not know about, and "doesn't know that he doesn't know". The Force is one aspect, but he can be blindsided if he's unfamiliar with the person he's fighting. (The thing is, he DOES study his opponents specifically for this reason.) Another danger is him getting too far "inside his own head" and winding up taking information in and drawing the wrong conclusion. Or in a sense... overestimating his opponents instead of underestimating them. But he rarely makes the same mistakes *twice*.

I love him too. His weaknesses are things he can’t predict, incompetent officers, and occasional pettiness. I’ve read all of his books and seen both Rebels and Ahsoka.

I'm torn (having already seen it multiple times) - on the one hand I love these Rebels reactions, but otoh a short season 4 means she gets to Ahsoka faster and I'm dying to see her react to that, knowing how much she's enjoying Rebels

Oh hey, would you look at that... an oncoming storm. *cough* Something I really love about this two parter is they found a way to both have the rebels survive and technically beat Thrawn while showing that they needed a lot of luck to do so. If Konstantine had obeyed his orders, if there'd been a better fleet commander available to cover while Thrawn was on the surface or, of course, if there hadn't been the Bendu wild card it would have gone very differently. Hell if Tarkin hadn't wanted prisoners Thrawn would have just wiped them all out and gone about his day.

The season 3 ending is always a great watch it just shows how strong the Empire is. Thrawn made one mistake and that was under estimating Kanan. The thing that makes Thrawn a great character is that he learns from his mistakes.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who always tears up at all the heartfelt Ezra and Kanan scenes; as much as I love Anakin and Ahsoka's and Obi-Wan and Anakin's master and apprentice relationship, Ezra and Kanan's is just so special to me. Crazy that we're on the final season now too, as much as I wanna see your reactions to it all I don't want it to end either 😔

Ezra and Kanan together feel like much more of a father-son relationship while the others feel like sibling relationships. It’s a nice dynamic.

Rebels was my intro to Yhrawn before I read the boojs and he absolutely shines in these two episodes. Though he doesn’t help my anxiety either. Watching him strategize and scheme is such a delight though.

In all honesty I like seeing a competent villain, makes the show more interesting and intense especially for the main characters because it showed they had it "easy" the entire time but get utterly humiliated not because the villain underestimated the heroes but because the heroes did this time, which makes me love Thrawn (Also the heroes or main characters can learn from their mistakes and improve as well)

There's no way Sato's sacrifice, coupled with the two pilots staying with him to the end, _wasn't_ inspired by or based on Captain Janek and his two pilots sacrificing themselves and the Prometheus to save humanity in the climax of Prometheus. Whether that's the case or not, it was still a somewhat emotional moment for me because it was similar enough to the aforementioned moment in Prometheus, which often makes me cry.

It makes perfect sense that you care for Kallus now after he switched sides. Good people know that you can never win with violence alone. If your only plan for the bad guys is to kill everyone, then they will have to fight to the end for their own survival. And if you ever manage to get the upper hand in the conflict, people will start resisting against you then, resulting in a never-ending circle of death. The galaxy in star wars is very big and there are billions of people supporting the empire. Should the rebels just try to kill them all? In that case, the entire galaxy would be burning and the only question is which flag would be waving between the ashes in the end. The answer is obviously no. You always have to give people the chance to learn from their mistakes and regret their sins. Only by people seing and accepting the truth willingly, victory can be achieved. And that is why you are rooting for Kallus now, just like everyone who chose the light side. Because we have to believe in people like him. If we couldn't do that, there would be no chance for peace.
