The ending really hit hard. Mon Mothma fought for the ideals of the Republic, opposed Palpatine from the very beginning, founded and aided Rebel cells, renounced the Empire and founded the Rebel Alliance, and lead them to victory, only to reinstitute everything wrong with the Clone Wars Republic. Her closing her eyes, really makes it seem like she's at the end, and she knows despite everything she ultimately failed the people of the galaxy.

Same as the one that came before it. Palpatine just exploited and exacerbated existing problems within the Republic, but he didn’t really create them. The Separatists would’ve most likely rebelled at some point regardless of Sidious’ interference.

@@markf.9396 I would also like to take your statement a bit further even; with or without Palpatine, the Republic would have eventually turned into the Empire, or at the very least an Imperialistic/Fasict entity due to the rampant and runaway corruption of the wealthy elites of the Core.

Sadly the New Republic is a failure and lasted almost as long as the Empire. This shows why the Jedi was so needed in the New era.

That's what makes it interesting for me, and it also draws parallels to our real world. But I do also see the angle many people take that its defeat cheapens the happy ending of Return of the Jedi.

It lasted longer than the Empire. Empire lasted 20 years, New Republic lasted 29-30 years.

How do I go about learning how to make these kinds of edits? I'm really interested in making my own but don't know where to start.

Personally I just kind of figured it out as I went - there's really no available guides or anything for this. You could look into trailer editing, I'd say that's the closest to these and there's a bunch of tutorials out there. Feel free to Discord or email me and I can give some tips, they're both in my channel description.
