On the note of restrictions and gear etc... Yes there will be certain classifications/grades of gear unavailable to you BUT with their abundance of loot I wouldn't concern myself too much with that. PRO TIP: If you've been playing the game for a while and maybe even have a couple of characters where you've maxed out the amount of money you're allowed to have in your bank..... if you subscribe during that time and pool your money you can often find on the in-game auction "account-wide unlocks" for various things like the option to wear all clsssification/grades of gear. For the price of what you'd spend on a trip to Taco Bell once a month you get an enormous world and a heck of a lot of fun. It's alright, nothin good compared to eso but it's good, here is my list of musts for ANY mmo to be worth batting an eye. 1. Gameplay: Time Limit for all content, for free players must be equal to paying players. 2. Pay for convienence, not to win or to play, at most it's okay for an mmo to make it's mint via cosmetics, nothing more. 3. Extensive customization, wether you're paying or not. Swtor though doesn't support these ideals COMPLETELY, it is possible for a premium account to obtain pretty much all things in the gtn, just gotta reach your cap of credits ehhh 200 billion times by placing all your capped wealth in legacy hold each time then get a friend who is subbed then trade them 1mill repeatedly till they reach the amount required for the item that you desire in gtn, or get a security key and not login for ehhh 20 years, finally the last method utilize a refer from a friend and have 7 days free sub which I prefer to use when I am planning on spending my accumalated credits and leveling all my toons to cap, lvl wise and gear score wise.

Great video Matty, I've been making SWTOR content for a few years now, and I honestly think you hit the nail on the head with this one! It's nice to see external youtubers come into the game and try it out. I love how you take such a positive approach to the game, and how you further choose to compare the game to both KOTOR and other MMOs, rather than other Star Wars titles. Protip: if you want more than the vanilla storylines and want to have the expansion storylines without spending massive amounts of money on the game, pay for a one month subscription (its like some 10 euros or so) and then end your subscription after like two weeks. You get twice if not more times the story time and content as if you wouldn't have subscribed for a relatively small price, plus you get to keep the expansion storylines and contents that you got with the subscription and you get a "preferred" status after you gave up on your subscription, that has additional benefits over the "free-to-player" status.
@Perturabo-h7c4 жыл бұрын
@Seventh Taco The point is getting the expansion content without getting a monthly message on whether you want to keep the subscription or not.

So, as I see in the comments of many SWTOR videos, many complain about the trailer, not being like the game. It may seem like that, but just because the graphics in the game aren’t like in the trailers, the experience definitely is better than the trailer, and I totally forget that this is a 2011 game.

As someone who's played all the stories multiple times, playing: Male Imperial Agent Female Sith Inquisitor Male Smuggler and Female Bounty Hunter were the most fun stories for me :D
@alexcomer634 жыл бұрын
Sith inquisitor: learn about sith force ghosts and the ancient sith on the surface of korriban as well as force alchemy stuff and force rituals through the eyes of a force prodigy newly freed from their life of slavery Jedi Consular: learn the history of the sith and jedi back to when the order split for the first time and become a excruciatingly powerful force user with the highest title in the jedi order (And learn a few obscure lightside force powers along the way) Sith Warrior: (really awesome male voice actor and very cool companions) this story centers around your character accumulating both political and physical power as you slowly earn your place as the emperor's wrath aka the dude who gets shit done without the bureaucracy directly for the emperor, you choose how to accumulate that power, wether through causing harm and taking things for yourself or helping others in order to help yourself and make your name known Smuggler: Pretty fun romp around the galaxy with a colorful cast of characters but more than anything the silver tongued smuggler dialogue options might be the best in the game, very enjoyable to go around gambling, stealing, charming, and blasting your way through the galaxy also everyone calls you captain so that's cool Bounty Hunter: a low end merc at first works his/her way up through the seedy underbelly of the galaxy working for anyone with enough credits until you start getting noticed by the mandalorians and the hunter's guild also another amazing male voice performance here, your character sounds like he's a true grizzled badass (considering this character is one of the few who's more than likely to where a helmet at all times his voice is only improved by the helmets audio filter) are the most well written and interesting playthroughs if you like star wars for lightsabers, intrigue, fun characters, exploring the galaxy, and force mysteries. If you wanna play a really shitty spy sim you can play imperial agent (super boring from a writing/narrative perspective, but that's up to you), or a really really boring republic commando playthrough where you just shoot shit and walk forward, Jedi Knight is a super contrived chosen one storyline really lame all said and done. Keep in mind all of my playthroughs were light side (light side sith playthroughs are really really awesome, when you play the jedi knight playthrough light side it almost feels like you're just doing what the jedi order thinks is right when you do something good, whereas when you do a good or light sided choice playing in a sith playthrough they frame it as you choosing to grant mercy where you could've easily caused harm and it'll show that while a sith is lightside he isn't a pacifist or pseudo pacifist in the way a jedi knight is, you can make only lightsided choices the whole game as a sith and feel like a truly good character while still feeling like a powerful and skilled force user, it's my favorite way to play tbh). Now with all of that said and done, the best part of the game is when you get to play the character of your choice with the voice, playstyle, and alignment you like most in the eternal empire DLCs and after, those DLCs added so much amazing writing to the game and after you finish all of the chapters in those DLCs (Just as many as in the base game 20+ I think so they doubled the games size with them) you get to start collecting followers and the only reason I bring this up at all besides the fact that it's cool to have like 50 different followers is that when playing through the side content to get them they remove the voice acting for dialogue and give you more dialogue options as well as reworking the dialogue UI to look like the old Kotor dialogue menu, the game is good guys. You can doubt me on the writing of the later DLCs if you want, but they are extremely good. The DLCs up to the one about revan are all pretty sparse and gameplay/dungeon focused so they are really boring and the interesting dialogue is few and far between but all the DLCs after that focussed on good boss fights and interesting battles sure but the main focus was the dialogue and narrative and it really shows.

This is the great thing about having eight unique base class quests/stories; every player is different, and while the Imperial Agent story seems to be considered 'the best' overall, it's not going to be to everyone's tastes. Unless you're a big fan of Star Wars it isn't worth it, I've seen all the old movies and I used to be a "fan" just never a massive one. I was always more engrossed in the video games than movies, Battlefront, Outcast hell I even really enjoy Clone Wars on the Gamecube and beat it multiple times. I pre-ordered and played this on day one and have a lvl 40 (from day 1 standards it took over 100 hours to get to that point) since then the game hasn't aged well at all and recently has this feeling of "EA could take this down any minute if it doesn't turn profit" which is why I imagine it's on Steam now. Never really makes you feel like putting in hundreds of hours into it. I imagine a current fan of Star Wars would look at this with a much higher regard than what I'm capable of. But as someone who's tried out plenty of MMO's and has put in a lot of time into the ones I enjoyed. I'd say stay clear of it unless you're a fan, because their are plenty of other MMO's that do everything this game does but better.
@deeber39604 жыл бұрын
I've come to SWTOR with relatively little experience in MMOs, and being a SW fan, took to SWTOR quickly. Genuine question, out of interest: which MMOs would be your picks as great MMOs?
@CaptainNoFace4 жыл бұрын
@@deeber3960 It's hard to say what my "favourite" one's are so bare that in mind, mainly because MMO can be applied to completely different gameplay concepts. FF14 by far the best MMO I've been playing for over a year now that really excels in world building due to the amount of things you can do no entirely gameplay related that add to a living world. has the best expansions in any MMO I've played for story content. Guild Wars 2 - Has great action combat, good expansions, uses buy to play still but the base game these days and max lvl are totally free. Warframe - Technically an MMOLite or Shoot loot hub MMO's but movement in this game is bliss, that being said there's not much to do outside of the grind, however some people can create INSANELY powerful frames and builds in that game that make you want to try and get to that point because of how cool it looks. Runescape Classic - This is DEFINITELY an acquired taste and unless you have some nostalgia for older games it might be much harder to get into this, but if you like grinding, Runescape is the grindiest MMO I've played but also one of the most unique art and gameplay wise. PSOBB- I'm just really nostalgic for PSO because it was my first online game when I was a kid and had a dreamcast. It's hub based, janky, old and made by Sonic Team... BUT it is also one of the pioneers in this sort of gameplay and online interactions. Stands as a totally free MMO these days on a fan server called Ephinea I would without a doubt say that if SWTOR is up your alley because it's star wars related then keep going right ahead because half of what is going to keep you playing an MMO is whether or not you love the world that it takes place in interests you. Just because I say there are better MMO's, their settings and themes or even gameplay might not agree with you. If I had to recommend any game out of the ones I just listed for a star wars fan it would Warframe for people who like Modern games and PSO for those who like classic since they both have heavy themes of sci-fi and PSO has full on lightsabers.
@deeber39604 жыл бұрын
@@CaptainNoFace Thanks for the detailed reply. I've heard of some of those, but not all. I thought I'd take to mediaeval fantasy-themed MMOs, but that wasn't the case (so far), then I found SWTOR and have enjoyed it these past months. I'll check some of those MMOs out when I move from SWTOR. :)
@CaptainNoFace4 жыл бұрын
@@deeber3960 I'd without hesitation recommend Warframe or Destiny then, just because they're very sci-fi and have theme's and ideals you find in Star Wars all over the place, but they're different enough in their execution that they will be completely different MMO experiences to what you've had on SWTOR. And if you're in for Nostalgia or older games try Ephinea PSOBB for similar reasons. But if SWTOR is a genuinely fun experience for you don't let someone like me deter you for it for an opinion, you play whatever you get genuine fun out of :) I'd even give Elite Dangerous a go if you're willing to try something VERY different (It's basically Euro Truck Simulator in space with a massive persistent galaxy in which everyone shares the same server, if you like space battles give it a look very open ended gameplay)

Something people need to understand is the reason there are fewer NPC's in the leveling area's it was done to minimize the aggravation of constant combat that used to be a normal experience in the original design. All of the more interesting content and interesting game play is now in the expansions lvl 50 - 75 there is a lot of well developed story content and character interaction new worlds and challenging battles. For a free to play game this one has a huge amount of content and is still a very popular game worth spending some time with and i will add 1 suggestion you can improve your account to Prefered by activating a sub for 1 month there is a nice step up from free to play when doing this allowing for a lot more access.

My gripes about SWTOR are that it feels like you're running through a giant painting meaning that the game is pretty, but the world feels static and dead. I also wish that there was a lot more polish. Finally, back when the devs greatly reduced the number of servers, I basically lost two thirds of my characters despite the fact that I was literally the third person on my server seven days before launch. Aside from those issues, SWTOR is a great MMO with great story telling and solid gameplay.

The mirotransactions (cartel coins/market)for the most part can be bought on the auction house (or galactic trade network) be warned they are pricey 3. You can solo the whole game aside from pvp (which is a group finder activity) and operations (which are like raids from wow but lower player count) but the events quests heroics and Flashpoints (dungeons) can all be soloed And lastly have fun you want a jedi with red sabers and sith clothing do it or a sith thats light side or even a bounty hunter that runs around in there underwear you can just have fun there is plenty to do for even type of player free or subed

I remember liking this game when I originally played it, but when I came back years ago they made it way to easy. I don't need to have really difficult gameplay, but this was so easy that I could go AFK in combat and be completely fine. And this was without any grinding for exp or gear, and going by instinct build wise. The story may have been able to carry it, but as an MMO it doesn't respect your time so there are just so many long boring sections between plot progression. I would recommend watching a video of the plots instead.

I tried it early this year, as someone who loves both Kotor games, I wanted to see what happened next although I knew I wouldn’t like Shadow Of Revan. Was surprised tho, as I was really digging the Jedi Knight storyline at first (as I heard it was basically Kotor 3 for some), but after many hours and passing the level 30 milestone, the story didn’t seem to go anywhere and the missions became really repetitive. What ultimately made me quit was not being allowed to continue the story due to not having enough exp. It kinda saddens me nevertheless, as I look back at the first hours pretty fondly, I’m thinking of reinstalling it just to finish the Job, but I’m afraid the mission design might wear me off again.

The bounty hunter is super fun as well. And the Sith Warrior has, in my opinion, the best story amongst the lightsaber wielding classes! I don't want to spoil too much but the simple fact there is a scene where you can convince a Jedi Master to kill an unarmed opponent who posed a future threat and then, leave them alive to return and teach students (though there's never something that comes from it in the story afterward but it's still pretty fun). It's up there with the Imperial Agent, really. I don't know, however, how well it holds up after the main story of the game is done as I haven't played the expansions.

I have maybe 2k hours in this game. not really a PVP guy however my main toon being a sith warrior (my favourite class that I have completed) was a guild master of a guild of like 150 people. id honestly recommend starters play either Jedi knight or sith warrior. my first was sith warrior it really drew me in because we so often see the Jedi side so seeing the sith side is interesting to me. its quite similar to mass effect and dragon age with its relationship system and obviously its combat is MMO as hell. my one main recommendation to people who are just getting into the game is because the side quests on each planet are faction based not class-based (meaning every side quest you do with a sith empire toon is the same and every side quest for the republic is the same) you should play in a zig-zag pattern of one republic character then one empire character to limit burnout. another thing I recommend to people with the game is either ask your friends to see if you know an experienced player or fine an experienced player in-game (the community is friendly at least on the English European server however empire players tend to shitpost more so dromund kaas is entertaining) also i do have to disagree with matty on the Jedi consular, it is nowhere near as good as the other force using stories. most people consider either sith warrior or sith inquisitor the best stories for force users. however as matty said imperial agent is regarded as the best by almost anyone I've met who has played all the stories with republic trooper or smuggler being last.
