Rey uses the force to pull down a First Order Transport Ship as it is believed that they captured Chewbacca and also The Sith Dagger. Kylo Ren gets out of his burning ship and opposes Rey by using the force to push the ship into space and escape. Rey becomes angry and accidently uses force lightning and blows up the ship. She then believes she killed Chewie. With no time to waste, Rey, Finn, Poe, C3PO and BB8 escape in Ochi's ship.
When it's discovered that the evil Emperor Palpatine did not die at the hands of Darth Vader, the rebels must race against the clock to find out his whereabouts. Finn and Poe lead the Resistance to put a stop to the First Order's plans to form a new Empire, while Rey anticipates her inevitable confrontation with Kylo Ren. - Palpatine had made clones of himself or had been trying to, his essence transferred into that body. “Essence Transfer” isn’t something new, it’s been touched on multiple times in both books & videogames. - The crash with Kylo does confuse me a little bit. The man walked away from a fireball, but somehow Disney said he’s fine. Maybe he did something similar to what Grogu did, put a force barrier around himself. - Chewie was on a different ship… I don’t understand it but I don’t get paid to question it nor do I care enough. - Yes, because they explained prior to the movie (and in some of the Legends novels) that one of his clones was raised like Boba was… as a child. It was his “son” who had Rey.

Eh, I wouldn't say everything. The special effects, the music, and (most) of the acting were great. But the writing, pacing, some of the acting (most notably from Daisy Ridley who was just unforgivably awful, as well as Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher to a slightly lesser extent; they weren't bad per se but their hearts clearly weren't in it after so many decades), and fight choreography in all three films were complete shit. Which is extremely frustrating since people like Oscar Isaac, Mark Hamill, Ian McDiarmid, Adam Driver, etc. actually give some pretty great performances, all wasted on horribly written characters. Fuck Disney, Kathleen Kennedy, JJ Abrams, and Rian Johnson.

Agree 100%. I think Disney should hire the best writers they can and also bring in several SERIOUS lifelong Star Wars fans who have immersed themselves in the Star Wars universe since childhood and have a deep understand and love for the myth and lore and "core" principles of Star Wars style storytelling to advise the writers when they go a bit "off course" . Kind of like a Star Wars "think tank". The fans aren't necessarily writing the movie, just providing guidance and information when an idea or plot twist is incongruent with the Star Wars storyline/timeline and events. It's fun to bring back big characters but it's also a "cheap" move unless done very VERY well and a plausible explanation is behind it.

Luke the son of chosen one Anakin Skywalker, during rigorous training with grand master yoda couldn’t successfully lift a tiny star fighter while standing a few feet away from it. I do enjoy Star Wars, or at least did historically, and I don't expect it to be on par with Shakespeare at a writing level - but if you can't acknowledge the Rey trilogy as mostly garbage with nice visuals then I don't know how to continue the conversation. Maul was trained as a sith assassin when he was in pursuit of obi one and Quigon Jin they couldn't feel his presence. He was most likely trained to cloak himself and his acrobatic hate filled lightsaber combat. More than the use of outward force power, he was more in use of a force empowered lightsaber combat. Perfect for the use of sideous and dukoo as a thing to fear and show the power of their control. Though he had access his training was to be a tool of the dark side.

Maul could use lightning but considered it unworthy as he used a saberstaff to overwhelm his opponents. Anakin was the same way. He felt he didn't need lightning before his duel with Obi-Wan. Lightning is powered through emotion, which is why you see Rey going through different emotional states.

I know a lot of people had Star Wars killed for them while watching TLJ, but to be honest, this was truly the scene that killed it for me. My brain thought as a joke a split second before this "lmao what if Rey just pulled the ship down?", and then she's actually able to do it. Then Kylo can also push the ship back up? Why didn't he just pull Rey towards him and stab her while she was distracted? And then Rey produced force lightning out of absolutely nowhere, seemingly killing Chewbacca. Yeah. This was the moment in Disney Star Wars that truly killed these movies for me. I know that's pretty late in the Sequel Trilogy, but I was still in High School when these were coming out, so it took a lot for me to stop caring about Star Wars entirely.

Rey is so naturally in tune with with dark side that she has to fight it every step of the way. She is so emotional and channels it into her fighting and the force with ease unintentionally, as seen in every duel where she is in rage, screaming, and fighting dirty with hatred always in her eyes, even going so far as to purposefully inflict pain as revenge like stabbing Kylo in the shoulder while he was down on Starkiller Base knowing it wouldn’t kill him or further her ability to get away but simply because she was full of such rage and hate in the moment towering over him. Where as Kylo is always in control and collected when he fights, sure he throws tantrums but not in the midst of battle, and while very powerful with the force doesn’t seem to have the deep enough emotions to connect with the dark side’s abilities like force lightning. Rey could never be a Jedi, she can’t control her emotions at all, like Anakin, and naturally uses them in battle to her advantage to the point that it even scares her. When she originally went to Luke, she was looking for someone to teacher her to control her abilities, not necessarily looking to only stay with the light side or to become a Jedi. She was a scavenger from the outer rim, cut off from and uninterested in the politics of the empire, first order, and the rebellion, who didn’t want to see a droid picked on and got roped into all of it, only joining the rebels because meeting Luke would be to her advantage and remaining with them so Leia could train her to control her powers instead. Rey’s deep natural connection to the dark side is something a wanna-be sith like Kylo could only dream of, and I truly think that if she had just stopped fighting it and turned to the dark side like he wanted, she would have gone so much darker than him and it would have scared him. Kylo/Ben has so much light in him that he was fighting it to be in the dark, and Rey has so much dark that she was fighting to stay in that sliver of light she clings to.

I don’t think people would deny this analysis it’s just that the idea that Rey’s sole existence contradicts literally everything about being a Jedi (training, dueling, etc.) that was established in literally every other Star Wars project. There isn’t even a logical reason as to why she was able to magically do all of this stuff anyway. Kylo Ren at least has some logical backstory that does honestly somewhat make sense. But Rey quite literally has no backstory. Your point is strong but it dodged the main issue with Rey; that being that her character made literally zero sense and a lot of the other issues with this trilogy can be connected to this alone, such as the terrible duels and fight scenes, the cliche and childlike storyline that makes everyone happy unlike the two broken heroes journeys of the other two trilogies (this last trilogy should’ve ended with a resolve but it didn’t), the bland and boring background of all the characters just being related to the OT main characters, etc. it’s just a disappointment. It just seems like a writer at Disney thought the exact same thing you were thinking and said “this would be a cool concept/idea” and then decided to expand on it so much before realizing it was too late to scrap it

In Empire he isn't even with Yoda that long, and then he self-trains the following year leading to Return of the Jedi. Rey by this point has been trained by Leia for a year (actually trained, not just given lessons like with Luke). This movie definitely has issues, but Rey has just as much, if not more training, than Luke had over the course of the OT (I'm not counting the canon books and comics since the movies existed long before those).

I just hate the sheer lack of faith in the original films in regards to "the Force". Even Yoda and Palpatine could only use it in very powerful moments and had to break from using it by using their sabers instead- whereas all the "novices" in these films wield it willy-nilly like it's nothing, holding up extremely large objects like they're nothing.
