Great review! But I think you forgot about the dojo? Or maybe I missed you talking about it? I'm not that into Vader Immortal (even though I quite like Star Wars), basically for the reasons you shared in your criticisms (writing, gameplay, motion capture and dialogue). But I did have a lot of fun in the dojo, which to me is the best parts of Vader Immortal condensed into straightforward arcade fun. And that's where I felt most like I was fulfilling my force-user fantasies :p

Yet we have games like walking dead saints and sinners and resident evil 7

The story only lasts two hours. Theres loads to do in the dojo and considering this is a full on legit lightsaber game for the PSVR, it'd definitely worth the price.

It’s worse than that... you are forced to wait ALL THE TIME before you can teleport anywhere and most of it is following behind someone like a dog on a jerky leash. It’s a pretty buggy game and I was once or twice unable to move anywhere while the characters expressed their impatience with me... eventually I found the mysterious combination of who-knows-what button presses and waggles to continue on, but teleporting into control panels and cave walls was frequent, forcing me to fiddle around to get unstuck. I knew that the PS version didn’t include smooth-movement, but I found this absolutely gutted any immersion.

The Dojo is the game. Not the campaign. Trying to get those three stars in the chapter 3 dojo is fucking tough and I spent weeks playing through the entirety. I guess you have to enjoy arcade gameplay? In my opinion the dojo in the later stages gets just as intense as hard tracks from Pistol Whip or Beat Saber. Give the mode some time, it’s well worth it.

That’s what I’m hearing.. What ticks me off is that every review I saw focused (positively) on the campaign, and THAT’S why I bought it. I had zero interest in buying a saber dojo game for US $30.

GENETIC BLASPHEMY I completely agree this game was marketed incorrectly. The campaign is a cool once around, but the teleportation is inexcusable. I was pleasantly surprised playing through the Dojo’s on the Oculus, but even being all in there, the second story section is meh and the duel with Vader is lackluster. I would love a dueling style game in the same format, featuring key force users from both sides. Like a single player fighter against the greatest Sith and Jedi. Vader Immortal should have been marketed as an arcade game, with a cool Star Wars story experience. It seems most thought is was the opposite.

Personally, I really like Vader Immortal and honestly my favourite part of the game was the first mission of the first chapter on the windfall, I just want a VR game where you are like a smuggler or something and it’s like the opening mission.

Just completed it! It was an ok game. 6/10. The first episode was the best, the second was ehh (worst) and the third episode was ok (in the middle because the ending was cheap). Overall, it seemed more like an interactive movie game than your normal VR games on the Quest (like Contractors (Best game on Oculus IMO), Beatsaber, etc.). I don't believe it was worth the $20 bucks that I've spent on it (should be at the most $10) because the gameplay was very linear. Hopefully, in the future they actually make these games more interactive if they want customers to buy it to have replay value.

@@davidedmunds Hi. The fishing game is a great choice. Lots of fun and I still haven't played online with people on it. You might feel motion sickness on this star wars game if when you are climbing stuff or looking from the top of something. Contractors is a MUST! 😊. Best game on the Oculus IMO! The vader game is more of a movie interaction game than an actual game like contractors. That's for sure. I don't have mini golf though. Your welcome.

@@davidedmunds About the same. You honestly just use the analog sticks to control your character. You might feel it the first few days, but after that; it's good. So your body just gets used to it after a couple of days.

The teleportation is the worst I’ve ever encountered. The whole campaign is extremely meh on every level, including graphically. If you’re committed to buying it I’d really recommend waiting until they patch-in smooth movement and put it on sale for eight bucks. This game has been as overhyped as they come.

It’s been a long while since I purchased a VR game I was so disappointed with. This might be the worst, really. Save your money for SW:SQUADRONS - that looks pretty damn great.

Played the first episode this morning, and my hands often block on the side, or back, and the locomotion...is ridiculous...after playing Saints&Sinners...it's hard to play game with teleportation....

Great Review, Chris! I appreciate your "honesty" and objective opinions! I still own (and use) my PSVR but I have this on my Rift already (and downloaded it to my Quest since it's "crossbuy" and I didn't have to pay to put it on my Quest plus it's better played without a cable hampering my turning movement). As a huge Star Wars fan, I enjoyed it overall, but after a few replays I only ever boot it back up just to play the lightsaber dojo when the mood hits me. It's a total shame though that they nerfed the PSVR version by only having teleportation. That just breaks the immersion of what is otherwise a fun "romp" into the Star Wars universe. Hopefully they'll patch the movement in a future update.

Great review! Just got through playing it myself. For sure, some disappointing aspects to the game but I am a huge Star Wars nerd so it was definitely worth it to me. I do wish it was longer and that your actions had consequences in the story but also for a game 5 years old it certainly was revolutionary.

This game is little more than a ladder simulator in garbage resolution. I would love for it to be more, but it’s not. 1st episode has 2 lightsaber scenes, and a bit of what I’d classify as “tech demo” stuff. But most of it is really low-res “look around the environment” garbage. Not worth your money. Blood and Truth is way better as a PSVR experience. The voice acting is also super cringy bad. Don’t buy this game at its’ current price point.

If u had any common sense or decent taste in gaming you would add it to your "Sell" list, lol. Sell the worst VR headset ever created (PSVR, rofl!) & buy the only VR headset that makes VR tolerable, (besides the Pimax 5 & 8K) a Vive Pro instead of a horrific, extremely blocky, blurry, unplayable for anyone that isnt blind PSVR. WHY would you even buy that useless thing? It isnt even cheap & the original Vive & the standard Oculus were such bad quality I thought mine was broken at first until I found out they are supposed to look that bad & even they are almost TWICE as clear as PSVR!

@@VRGRID it shows the dev\publishers mentality in a way... since ,when was this...ehmm, in 2013-ish EA\Ubisoft\Activision called used games copies a Piracy, since they cannot get a cut from theirs sales... this introduced one time used Serial Codes to console games (locking in some way 30% of the Sp campaign and using it as a Internet Pass ) and GOTY editions that are a bunch of codes with the vanilla disc ... the thing is m when a game gets a physical release they get 24$ from those 60$ ... if they go for digital from 90% to 85% or even 100% (if they own the store) goes to them ... killing history preservation in the process

The graphics are only okay. I was constantly reminded of graphical levels only at the level of SKYRIM VR on the PSVR pro. That was especially true for the many many scenes that were in a SKYRIM-like dungeon, minus the fun, interesting level design, or exploration rewards. Beyond that the graphics dropped to pure crap during two or three scenes of bad storytelling that looked like they were created inTilt Brush. I’m not exaggerating. Although I haven’t yet put much time into the dojo’s (and understand that they are supposed to be quite good) I didn’t buy this for them, I bought this for the story and graphics. I was profoundly disappointed with Vader Immortal, and am actually cranky that the several other VR reviewers I follow cast it in a positive light, as I feel truly ripped off. I fully recommend to anyone that you play a little BEAT SABER, a bit of SKYRIM VR, and the VR X-Wing mission from SW:BATTLEFRONT instead and you’ll have way better experiences with every one of those. Save your money - in a couple weeks we’re getting SW:SQUADRONS and that looks like it’s gonna be superb.

If you let teleportation ruin your experience then you weren't that into it to start with. As someone who prefers to play without teleportation and has played several games without using it, using teleportation was barely a mild inconvenience

Also the bad controller to saber calibration. Non-existent 1:1 ratio. Other reviewers are having big audio bugs too. I want a droid volume control. Why wouldn't they make droids with a volume control of some sort in the StarWars universe? Don't fan boy too hard. You let your emotions blind you Anakin. Remember "Disney budget", less polish then the quest version, and walking dead saints and sinners puts it to shame. $30 hard earned bucks to the Disney overlords.

The main story is ok, I really like the dojo combat though. You deflect, throw light sabers, throw bombs and shit, its just more fun to be honest.

Teleportation movement is very common in VR. The reason is because people get motion sick. If you have never played VR before don't go thinking you won't get dizzy just because you don't get motion sick in your car. I've played VR on many devices and sadly teleport movement is the more usable. With the exception of stepping to the side a bit movements in VR is very clumsy. Using a controller to move around isn't great either.

Not really. I was fully underwhelmed even by Vader. Oddly, this game seems better watching it played on videos than in VR. Although the ship interior you start off in is fine (and even has slight interact-ability, plus the planet looked nice from space) but once you’re out of your ship the graphics truly are not much beyond vanilla SKYRIM VR (an incredible port that benefits from a million other qualities beyond graphics). Not mentioned anywhere is that most of the story is in a Skyrim-like dungeon, and you’re searching for a power crystal - so it’s really not like Star Wars at all for most of the story.

Much better on Oculus and the dojo with a wireless headset is a must buy for any star wars fan - however, ive never experienced smooth locomotion on either platform so i don't think there was a downgrade, it was just never offered

Also "PSVR" is NOT a VR headset! Its an incredibly cheap, extremely outdated piece of blocky, blurry garbage that Im still shocked was ever even released! when I bought the original Vive (& my 3 VR friends had the Same experience when they bought the garbage Oculus) the games looked so block & blurry I was certain my Vive was broken! Then I discovered ALL the KZbin vids were recorded from a monitor, Not the headset so I sold the unplayable piece of dog poop & bought the Vive pro & installed the Gear VR lens mod & its 3x better! But ANY VR Headset with lower resolution than a Vive Pro should NEVER have been released, nowhere near ready & PSVR is the Worst of all! lol.

Okay first of all, who hurt you? Second of all, I played through the entirety of Resident Evil 7 from start to finish in PlayStation VR and it was one of the best gaming experiences I have ever had. PSVR is a VR headset. It is just one that you don't happen to like. That doesn't mean that others like myself can't enjoy it. VR has incredible potential.

Would be an awesome game if there was peripheral vision,and you were able to move within your boundary. The way it is,standing in one spot allowing yourself to be surrounded is lame and stupid. And of course after 5 days of playing vaders dojo,you can tell the game exploits the cement boot syndrome. Good thing I experienced this on a friend's oculus,because now I can save my money.
