This is great work by Cartoon Saloon. I was expecting the classic kid who's force sensitive and a Jedi comes along to train her. However, when it lit up red, I was like oh no! This story is so simple, but it's executed so well. You don't need a million twists to entertain people. It's okay to tell a good simple story at a high level

The thing that stands out to me is the design of the banshee's lightsaber, its ornate and floral which isn't really a sith aesthetic. It makes me think that the banshee was once a jedi who entered the cave but was corrupted and consumed by the darkness within it. When Dal breaks free of the dark illusion and sees the real banshee on the floor it even looks like its wearing old withered jedi robes. It's the subtle details that made me so fascinated with this episode.

It could’ve belonged to the Sith that saved Daal. As per Rule of Two, she was meant to kill her master (the old hag), but decided to kill two birds with one stone; she turned it into an opportunity to find a new apprentice. I bet she used the Dark Side to break her master’s mind, and just left behind a saber in the cave and medallions around the planet for her would-be-apprentice to find.

Finally ! Working myself in animation, I was jumping on my seat after having heard of the studios list for vol.2 of Visions,! My most anticipated ones were Cartoon Saloon, Aardman, Studio Mir, and Studio la Cachette ! On my way looking through the season (I just finished 5, now) And damn, Cartoon Saloon didn't disappoint ! If you want absolute heartwarming beautiful animation movies, that makes a fantastic case for (mostly) Celtic mythology pitted against either Christianity or modern oppression, but through the scope of "kid's movies", I highly recommend their previous masterpieces Secret of Kells, Song of the Sea, Breadwinner and Wolfwalker. If you want to see some truly beautiful and emotional tear jerkers, you should absolutely react to them, these movies are truly special (all of them got nominated for an Oscar, btw, and won several much more serious animations prizes all over the world), and will change your way of perceiving animation as a media ! At this point, Cartoon Saloon is pretty much the studio Ghibli from Ireland. And they've done it again here with this episode. Like for the first episode that was very much heavy on the Spanish influence (yellow and red), here everything screams Ireland ! From the horrendous industrialized labor camps for kids (up until the beginning of the 20th century), to their accent and demeanors, the redheadness and freckles of Daal, to the screaming Banshee of a Sith. Even the mountain they go to is actually inspired from an actual sacred hill in Ireland. And that final almost evangelical snatch up of the youth by a manipulating Christian pries... I mean Sith, is very on point with the themes Cartoon Saloon usually explore in their movies.

Everybody expected her trial to be a jedi one and all of the clues don’t point otherwise either, but when her necklace glows red it’s a shock at first but when you rewatch it none of the clues point to otherwise either. I haven’t seen the others yet but between 1 and 2 so far 2 is definitely one of my favorites

Cartoon saloon specializes in folklore based stories, and they do it very well. I think that lends itself more easily to this short format, and their irish/celtic folk art visual style tells a lot of the story for them without any need for time consuming diague or other visual sequences. For example, we understood the whole context of the characters' troubles and frustration with a single pan-up across a mutal. Further, the folklore/mythological style and themes fit perfectly with star wars, with its own themes having ancient archetypal roots, but turns the typical heros journey on its head in favor of a cautionary tale that is just as ancient and true to the human experience. This was my favorite episode of both seasons, though that may be just as much a matter of personal taste as of objective review of quality.

I was really moved by the short anime, the cartoons and theme songs are amazing, the banshee inspired Sith phantom is incredible. The sith at the end is motherly and angelic but at the same time we sense something dangerous and threatening about her. The last scene when the girl is watching behind her with only her eyes on sight is very iconic and reminiscent of what she said earlier" don't look back". Does she regret her decision? does she just want a last look on her friends, guess we'll never know! 😮

This episode was a great spin of the classic Irish 'ghost tales' that frequently have twists at the end. You could take all the SW elements out of it and it would be a typical Irish tale. The Sith at the end would be replaced by one of the Aos Si (pronounced Ees shee and sounding almost like "is she?"). The Sidhe (pronounced 'Shee') were the supernatural faerie race of Ireland and Scotland (in Scotland they are known as -- get this-- Daoine SITH (but pronounced still 'Shee') or 'People of the mounds'. They live under the mounds in a semi-para dimensional world where time flows differently . The word Sidhe means 'mound' as in burial mound. So Aos Si also means "The people of the Mound". They were a fickle people who had a love/hate relationship with mortal humans. The SW Sith certainly has a strong hint of the darker parts of the Aos Si. In this episode, the old screaming lady was a perfect example of a Banshee (or Bean Sidhe) which means 'Woman of the burial mounds' and denotes a woman, often in bloody clothes that would wail and moan indicating an impending death, usually of a member of a specific Irish or Scottish clan. In Screecher's Reach case, the wailing was probably for the girl who's life would certainly change when she left with the Sith. In Irish tales, mortals were often taken (frequently children) by those of the Aos Si and usually they'd never be seen by their families or friends, or they'd return, seemingly days later, only to find years and decades had passed. The Irish mythology of the darker parts of the Aos Si certainly are evident in this tale and even the Sith lady's appearance hints at the angel like, but not quite good, somewhat sinister but beautiful appearance of many of the faerie court of the Aos Si. These fae people test and tempt mortals and try to lure them to join them into their para-dimensional world. Clearly those at Cartoon Saloon knew and used these Celtic images and since George Lucas utilized parts himself, it fit so very well. In Celtic tales, the dark side frequently wins.

@ryankwon8785 Жыл бұрын
I like how the ending is ominous. In the Old Republic Era, many Siths were different. Some actually had noble intentions and some actually are straight-up evil. What made me very interested is how the Sith Mother actually spared Daal's friends and allowed her to make a choice if she wants to be her apprentice or not. In fact, Darth Bane was actually a good mentor to Darth Zannah. He treated her very well that she actually saw him as a strict father figure and had a hard time killing him to fulfill the Rule of Two. However, the path to the Dark Side will turn those who follow it into evil Force Users. The first episode "Sith" had Lola's Sith Master wanting his former apprentice to kill and surpass him which made him proud in the end. Sith is really complicated depending on who the Sith Master is and how they are raised to follow the Dark Side with different ideologies. In Legends, Darth Marr is my favorite Sith because of his pragmatism, duty to the Sith Empire, and lack of arrogance. Despite this, he was evil because he was Sith until his death. Another example is Darth Vectivus (Legends). He was evil because he was a Banite Sith, but he died naturally surrounded by his friends and loved ones. I presume one of his friends was his Sith Apprentice. Sith are really complicated but their actions are nonetheless evil. Since they made a book and comic to continue Ronin's story, I hope they make a book and a comic for Screecher's Reech to continue Daal's journey to becoming a powerful Sith Apprentice under the Sith Mother. If so, I really hope they make the Sith Mother different from Sidious who abused Vader in every way. This can give us a different perspective of the Sith.

This was my favorite one in season. 6:36 daal was destined to do this. I want this to continue and see this girl’s story development more with her new master on the path to the dark side. Also my headcanon is that this sith mother escaped the sith purging for the rule of two and and in hiding has formed her own large group of children with the force that all have the same lightsaber daal is holding. This of this like a holy sith church with the mother keeping the old ways of the sith alive without needing to kill each other because they are now under her rule and she didn’t believe in the current ways of the sith and preserve the old ways though in her own dark fashion. Seriously though all of this could definitely be it’s own series!

IMO, the theme for this one is "The desperate and broken are the easiest to convert" Daal wanted a way out, and it came to her. It wasn't what she expected, but it was a way out. She'd have to leave all her friends behind, but it was a way out. You can tell by the look in her eyes at the end that even she knows this might not be the best thing for her, _but it was a way out._ I'm reminded of the villain from Part 6 of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, Enrico Pucci. To keep it short, he becomes what he is because Dio, the villain of a previous part, comes to him as an almost christ-like figure when Pucci has lost everything and is at his lowest, offering meaning to his life and what seems to be salvation. Really liked this one, and the sudden shift in tone was chilling!

I've always accepted Star Wars as a fairy tale for kids, but many fans have wanted something more adult. Andor might end up falling short of that because Luthen Rael is the antithesis of Star Wars: the message of all 6 movies was that becoming a monster in order to achieve your goals is not worth it in the long run, whereas Luthen's entire philosophy is that becoming a monster is worth it when you are fighting monsters. This is an extremely dangerous ideology in the real world and, ironically, is the philosophy with which totalitarian regimes justify their atrocities (by dehumanizing and subsequently brutalizing others). If Luthen Rael goes off the deep end and becomes the main antagonist of Andor, it'll be S-tier Star Wars content, but if it never addresses this issue then I'd say it is actually a Sith manifesto. The Force Unleashed was an excellent example of edgy content probably geared towards teenaged boys, and I have fond memories of how fun it was to really cut loose as a Dark Side user. It didn't undermine Star Wars though, because it portrayed Sith relationships as cannibalistic and abusive (rather than coming up with excuses for the Dark Side). I would really, REALLY love to see an animated series (perhaps 2D!) about a Sith apprentice. No holds barred, show us how ugly the Dark Side really is. Imagine a show about a young Maul -- or a Tales of the Sith anthology depicting young Palpatine and young Maul in two different arcs. Or maybe completely new characters like we see here.

The animation style was quite awful, felt like a very old and cheap cartoon, but the story has deep implications, aside from the fact that AGAIN is a girl fighting something (what is it with LFL only having female leads?), here is a girl that is falling on Anakin's Faustian pact: she is signing up to become a monster....

I liked the art of the ghost. It reminds me of artwork of Aaron Turner.
