Which is better? It depends. If you like action and adventure, it's Star Wars. If you like complex storylines and philosophical discussions, it's Star Trek.

Both have the capacity to be complex and philosophical. The movies generally don't go far into the lore of Star Wars. Star Trek had multiple tv shows that allowed it to flesh out the universe, like the "Clone Wars" and Rebels" have been doing for Star Wars.....ok I'm done. I was just mildly triggered XD

awesome420ication no, the competitors, competitors repeatedly say that movies are overrated when people dont really rate the movies all that highly to begin with. minority report isnt lauded as one of the greats like saving private ryan is. although mantz' answer isnt bad compared to some other people have done on other episodes.
@shanemccauley80097 жыл бұрын
The Endicott nope, you dont. the term overrated in these questions is very very obviously referring to the majority consensus on the movie in popular culture. if what you were saying were true, then i could say that the last airbender is overrated because my friend loves it. its not overrated, its rated in majority opinion as exactly what it is, utter shite. my friends single opinion does not change that.

The best "drop the mic argument" regarding Star Trek is this: When Nicholle Nicholes wanted to quit Star Trek, she attended a party, where she was introduced to a Star Trek fan. And that fan was nobody else but Martin Luther King, Jr. And MLK told her not to quit because her simply sitting on the bridge as a communication's officer was giving hope to million of people's of colour in the US. That convinced her not to quit and when she told Gene Roddenberry about it, he hugged her and cried, saying "Finally somebody understands what I'm trying to say." And that's what Star Trek is. It's not as entertaining as Star Wars, but that's not the question. It's not what's more entertaining, but what's better. And if you look at the entire franchises, Star Trek beats Star Wars without much effort. And the closing argument should be "The first speech censored, the first thought forbidden, the first freedom denied, chains us all irrevocably. The first time any man's freedom is trodden on, we're all damaged." - Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek: TNG 4x21.

Mario Quade But the two franchises are meant to entertain. And if Star Wars is more entertaining doesnt that make it better?

Every piece of television or cinema is a piece of entertainment, yes, but with that argument you could also say that Transformers is better than Manchester by the Sea, since one is way more entertaining while the other one is actually very depressing.

Andy gave Mantz multiple pity points throughout the entire episode. John brought the passion each argument. Andy didn't want it to be a blowout so he kept giving pity points to Mantz and it eventually came down to the final question which let Mantz win on a technicality. John deserves to go for the belt and if he isn't one of the people we can vote then that would be a discredit to the show
@MugenNiFukuzatsuna7 жыл бұрын
Mantz's Star Trek Opening basically won that argument right then. John had no chance at that one. Overall, I personally agreed with most of the judgments Andy made. There was only one that I think I didn't agree with and would have given to John: I think it was the La La Land/Moonlight one.

I really don't understand the hate and bias against Rocha. Every time he's on the show, he argues with a ton of passion, which I love, because it shows that he cares. He's always prepared and knowledgeable of the topics, he brings up good points and always articulates his points well. I felt like there were a few rounds he should've won instead of Mantz, ESPECIALLY the Moonlight vs. La Land trick question round. Rocha was much more convincing in his argument and displayed no difficulties in defending La La Land over Moonlight whereas Mantz clearly was bullshitting the whole time. P.S. To be honest, I think, Andy just manipulated the scoreboard to stretch the show. For me, Rocha won the argument that Brie Larson will be the next Meryl Streep. 4 -1 the end, Rocha's victory. It was difficult to watch this show. It was very long and very loud at times, it was tiring. I like the "one vs one" format. It may be interesting to continue this way and, in order to leave no doubt about tendentious judgments, adopt the format of 3 judges such as in Boxing or UFC. 3 different judges with different thoughts may have a fairer result.

both made good points, but the argument about personal conflict and death not being in Star trek is invalid. in the TOS Kirk's brother dies, you also have the rift between Spock and his father. star wars relied upon stuff that was started in Star trek. so even star wars owes some to trek.

*SPOILERS ON THE END/WINNER* Question was which movie FEATURES the best rivalry. Rocha made arguments why it was the best rivalry, and yes that rivalry spans multiple films. I think Andy got stuck upon the emphasis of the movie portion. I never care for who deserves to win these fights otherwise, these fights are meant to be fun, but if you're going to base on that premise, I say Rocha was robbed.

When people say Star Wars vs Star Trek they are usually referring to the Empire vs Star Trek. Now consider this. The Empire is the EASIEST enemy for anyone to beat! Everything they make has some kind of Achilles heal that can be exploited. Stormtroopers can be beaten by Teddy Bears slinging rocks at their helmets. AT-ST's can be felled with rolling logs or even captured Tarzan style by Chewbacca. AT-ATs can be taken down with tow cables. The Death Star can be blown up by shooting a torpedo down a ventilation shaft. Starkiller base, an ENTIRE PLANET, can be destroyed by merely planting a few thermal detonator grenades in a sanitation shaft. It would be more fair to have, "the Star Wars Empire vs. Napoleon Dynamite." dude's got skills....

I'm not going to lie, even though I knew it was a trick question, Rocha really really knocked it out of the park w/ his argument for La La Land. He made such genuine arguments lol
@KyleKizu7 жыл бұрын
Oh fuck no, I just saw that Mantz got the point. Come on Andy... Rocha had more points for why La La Land is great talking about the arc of the characters and the feat of the movie, and more thorough points about why Moonlight didn't work actually talking about structure and emotional payoff. Mantz just talked about his opinion of self-absorption and how they could've worked it out without actually talking about why the film in terms of how it does its arcs and how it has emotional payoff is bad. Definitely a pity point there also I know I'm late to the party lol, but point still stands

Did that guy compare having a black man voice Darth Vader, only to be the father of White boy and revealed to (obviously) be a White male. To having Martin Luther King and Barack Obama being inspired by seeing a Black woman in a position of power on TV during the 1960s where Black people were often seen on TV as slaves or houseworkers? lol.

@WalkingMisery7 жыл бұрын
Alien was much better imo. Blade Runner was mind numbingly boring. Love the idea but it wasn't done well.
@SaatvikDube7 жыл бұрын
I've got to disagree. Yes, Alien was faster paced; It was meant to be a Science Fiction Horror film... It's great but that's about all it is. None of its themes are really explored and the characters are far less developed than in Blade Runner. Blade Runner is meant to be a noir thriller. It focuses on the the moral dilemma that it presents on the morality of humans... Is Batty is really in the wrong. All of it's themes are fully fleshed out and it takes it's time with that. Not only that but the attention to detail is mind blowing in Blade Runner. I love Alien for what it is but it does not come close to the brilliance of Blade Runner.

About the Star Trek vs Star Wars fight, i would like to see more constructive answers about the opposite franchise from both Mantz and Rocha, the ones they gave seem a bit vague and more like a "your sucks because mines better" argument, but thats just my opinion... and maybe try to hear one another instead of talking consecutively louder and louder :D

Yeah, this is no contest. Before even watching the fight. Trek clearly crushes star wars in almost every way just based on the much larger amount of material and mythology (on screen). Both probably equal in their non canon book catalogs. I don't usually do this, but give a thumbs up if you're on board for trek. And give us a reason why if you cbf'ed.
