"Its robots may not be as entertaining" .... Data was on a serious complex journey of self-discovery seeking to explore the full range of the human experience from the standpoint of an absolute outsider. The character served as a sophisticated vehicle for discussing who we are, and what is valuable about us. Sorry you weren't entertained by that.

Maybe you should watch Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Every word you used to describe Star Wars is applicable to DS9. You only seem to show off classic Trek which several Trekkies don't enjoy as much.

Now if someone can just make a video explaining why Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter is different. Seriously, I can’t tell you the countless times that both these franchises are compared, when they are VERY DIFFERENT!!! NOT EVERY FANTASY BOOK AND MOVIE IS THE SAME!!! Lord of the Rings is about a journey about people trying to stop evil around the world. A hobbit trying to destroy the one ring, a man becoming king, and a war against an army who wants the ring. Harry Potter is about being part of a world normal people don’t know about. Going to school to learn different abilities while trying to stay away from death, and solving mysteries. They are very different. Stop comparing Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings.

Star Wars is fairly light fantasy entertainment. Star Trek is more philosophical and based on real world issues and problems. Both are great for their own reasons. And JJ Trek is not real Star Trek. It's more like Star Wars, which shouldn't be a surprise given that JJ is a Star Wars fan.

I don't understand why they're compared so often. They're different genres; Trek a science-fiction series that focuses on exploration of the unknown, whilst Wars is a space-opera that focuses on action and adventure. Second, Trek is a franchise that is most enjoyable on the small-screen, but Wars is more enjoyable on the big-screen. Third, since Trek is so much better, there's no point to debate this topic anyway. ;)

You know something in a way I prefer Star Wars more than Star Trek. I’m a big fan of the original Star Wars Trilogy. I prefer it more than the the prequel trilogy as much as how I also prefer The Mandalorian than The Book of Boba Fett. I like the original Star Trek series best but I don’t consider myself a Trekkie. So even though I like both franchises equally I am somewhat more Star Wars than Star Trek.

I must say, this is the best video I’ve ever seen featuring these two pop culture franchises and describing exact differences between the two. I’m more of a Star Wars person in a way, my mom is a Star Trek person, and I first saw Star Trek years before I saw Star Wars and there were actors I fell in love with back then. Like Patrick Stewart, and Levar Burton I even watched Reading Rainbow as a kid. And eventually I found William Shatner’s acting to be amazing. Even the spaceships and weapons from both franchises always had their moments. I couldn’t let go of anything that had suddenly become a part of my childhood years. So live long and prosper 🖖 and may the Force be with us all.

Star Wars +The Empire Strikes Back -Revenge of the Sith (ugh, so awful) +Great practical effects -Terrible CGI effects (like those in the prequels) +Great characters in the OT -Terrible characters in the PT What I'm getting at is that Star Wars is incredibly hampered by the prequel films. The equivalent of the prequels in Star Trek are the JJ reboots, which are freaking awesome, so I give this round to Star Trek.

And usually a lot of hatred towards the other. But here you laid the differences and didn't show any favoritism. You know well knowledge of both franchises and that made the video 100% times better. For me personally I prefer Star Wars over Star Trek because I got into Star Wars first and I believe that in film you should be unrealistic with sci-fi movies. Sure Star Trek did technically came before Star Wars as a TV Show but they did become a film franchise after the success of Star Wars which I don't like. But I do have to give Star Trek some credit because of a character in MLP. If Star Trek The Next Generation didn't come out and they created Q us bronies wouldn't have the character Discord who is inspired by Q from Star Trek The Next Generation and in fact voiced by the same person who did Q. I do have to give Star Trek some credit for that even though I don't like it.

For as young as you are you have great knowledge of the Star Wars Universe. Even though you're not a big Star trek fan I love the respect you have for it. I'm a 70's baby and at the age of 5 Star Trek became my first Sci fi love. I use to watch the old 60's reruns as a kid and i loved it. Then in 1977 at the age of 7, I was introduce to Star Wars. It quickly became my favorite Sci Fi property. For many of the reasons you listed in your video. But to this day i love both and i love them for their differences. No one is wrong for loving one over the other. It depends on what you're more into. If fantasy is your thing then Star wars is a great fit. If your more into true Sci Fi as it applies to our reality. Then Star Trek is your thing. I see value in both and never took sides on SW Vs ST. Great Video keep up the great work. It's good to see young fans like you who will carry on the fandom of Star Wars.

I would say Star Wars is more popular it's Fan base is 3 times bigger then Star Trek and Star Trek is a small niche audience it's audience is too small to compete with Star Wars, look up small Niche and you get Small Audience a minority audience. Star Wars is worth 4.5 Billion while Star Trek is only worth 2 billion at best, as I was saying Star Wars Generates Mass Appeal and is much more popular with mainstream audiences Star Wars Generates 1 Billion or in the case of Force Awakens 2 Billion a movie while Star Trek at best Generates 487 million Dollars a movie.

I never could get into Star Trek. And this is coming from someone whose mom and cousin are both Trekkies. As for Star Wars, I actually stop short of calling myself a fan. I've been exposed to the original SW Trilogy my whole life (ROTJ was released in theaters 5 months before I was born), but I didn't seriously get into it until I was in my early 20s, by which time the Prequel Trilogy was almost complete. To me, it was the Fantasy aspect and especially the Lightsaber duels that ultimately drew me into Star Wars.

Star Trek is like classical music, Star Wars is like Rock or Pop. Star Trek you can really sink your teeth into the tiny details, the moral dilemmas, it's a way to show the problems of today through the lens of the future and how we resolve these conflicts; just look at episodes like The Measure of a Man, Far Beyond The Stars, In The Pale Moonlight, Duet, I Borg, Balance Of Terror, Devil In The Dark. All these episodes show the struggle of a person to resolve some sort of conflict. In Deep Space 9, they try to avoid an obviously inevitable war for 3 seasons, and when the war arrives it is tough and brutal, we see the mental effects it has on people and how war is a horrible thing, never to be celebrated nor forgotten. In Star Trek, there isn't really ultimate good nor ultimate evil; the Klingons, Romulans, Ferengi, Dominion, Borg, etc all are played as bad guys at some point, but they still have redeeming qualities that mean that they are not completely bad. The Klingons even becoming strong allies of the Federation. The Federation also isn't 100% good, with things like section 31 and other rouge extremist organisations fighting for what they think is best for the Federation. Moreover, the Federation are the bad guys for many people. The Bajorans had spent a lifetime fighting off the Cardassians and now have to deal with a new external influence over them, and to them, that sucks. Star Wars on the other hand is fun. It's the goodies and the baddies, there's not really a grey area in it and that's fine. A really entertaining, fun hero story where we follow a small group of rebels fighting against insurmountable odds is always going to be enjoyable. One is not better than the other, it's just for different people. Of course you can have dilemmas within Star Wars, Darth Vader is a perfect example of this, he does occupy a sort of grey area deep down and his resolution is doing the right thing. But most of the villains in Star Wars are much more Bond style mustache twirlers, content to let every die to advance their personal gains. *TL:DR Star Trek is philosophy, Star Wars is an explosion. They're both cool in their own ways.*

I thought your video was very interesting, but I have a few criticisms. First of all, it seems to me like you only watched the films and the original Series. When you said "Its robots are not as entertaining" and you showed a picture of Data, I can't help but think that you didn't watch the next generation, or else you would know how funny and hilarious many scenes with Data are ä, as well as the massive character Development he's going through. Also, you mentioned an advantage of star wars in teems of character. Now to be fair, I haven't watched all of star wars, only episodes 4, 5 and 6, but while the characters weren't *bad* per se, they were extremely predictable and one dimensional. This is another moment where I come to think that you haven't actually watched the tv shows apart from the original series. If you watch Deep Space Nine for example, you will get some of the most fleshed out and interesting characters in the history of television. In conclusion, PLEASE consider to watch at least the next generation and ds9 to get an understanding of the strengths of Star Trek. And if you have watched them and my speculations were wrong, or you watch them now and don't change your mind, then I respect everything said in the video as it is your personal opinion.

I prefer Star Wars because it was more interesting to me. I watched a bit of star Trek but I didn't really get it.

So.....if you haven’t seen Star Trek and were never willing to give it a chance against Star Wars.........why are you making a comparison video? Doesn’t really make any sense, feels like you’re low key trying to bury Star Trek.

I really think that you need to watch both in order to appreciate them both. Also, if you've watched DS9 you'll know how dirty and scummy Star Trek can be. Also, Star Trek has waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better music. Listen to Wrath of Khan, First Contact and Into Darkness (even though that film was stupid).

I love both franchises, and can't really put one before the other. star trek shows an idealistic future and explores many philosophical, scientific and political themes. For example, in star trek: deep space nine episode 1, the cardassian empire finally leaves the planet bajor after a 50 year occupation. The planet's provisional government, not yet stable, reaches out to the federation to help rebuild and also protect against the neighbouring cardassians. then, a wormhole is discovered nearby, and is the first stable wormhole known to exist. inside the wormhole, a being exists that does not understand linear time, so it must be explained very philosophically to it by commander sisco. star wars shows another galaxy ravaged by war, and explores many moral, spiritual and romantic themes. For example, in revenge of the sith, anakin skywalker fears for the life of his wife, padmè amidala after he receives a force vision depicting her death. After hearing the legend of darth plagueus, who could revive the dead, anakin vows to learn this mystical ability. However, after palptine is revealed as a sith, anakin must decide whether to commit the atrocities required to become a sith and learn this ability, or destroy palpatine and save possible millions of lives, but risk loosing the life of the one he holds most dear and their unborn child. Both are great franchises, and I urge anyone who hasn't to give star trek a go. There are plenty of different versions, so I'd recommend watching the first episode of each, and continuing with the one you most enjoyed.

star trek has no romance except for Kirk getting all the alien .....! i thought he was known for that. also, horny space whales... that is a thing. it's just that characters in star trek are less lickily to be quepping non stop in life or death situations and perving nearly 24/7. it's just really wierd, not ramantic.

I personally like both franchises, because i see them, just as you mentioned, are completely different will really comparing the two in comparison in terms of what each focuses on. For sure Star Trek is Science Fiction, while Star Wars is more Fantasy. There is plenty of room for both franchises and comparing the two is like comparing apples and oranges, which are both certainly different other than both being a fruit.

I think the coolest differences between Star Wars and Star Trek is that Star trek has waaaay more technological advances it seems, but is always wanting to discover more and travel further. Star Wars doesn't care about upgrading it's rust buckets and also knows pretty much every alien that pops out from around a corner.

It’s not magic it’s cald the force and yes star trek and starwars are very different Star Trek is a story of science future a world where aliens and humans can live together and they finally gotten through the whole UFO thing and they are just average citizens working together traveling the universe and exploring strange new worlds and Star Wars it’s actually a very beautiful message of hope and love it’s the story of balance dark and light

One thing I think you missed with classifying Star Trek as just Science Fiction. The Volcan powers are more comparable to the Force then Science.

Star wars is more entertaining, exciting, and accessible. Star Trek is more intellectual, philosophical, and has acute social commentary. I appreciate them both for different reasons. You can like the fun thrilling thing and the deeper smarter thing at the same time.

Let's be real star trek wins, star wars is unipolar and this means only one superpower (the galactic empire) where as star trek many equal superpowers and more species(it was cointed), star trek also has better robits, data has no emotions and he doesn't understand jokes and when his conscious was deleted in star trek Picard's latest episode the emotional link from TNG made us fans cry our eyes out, also star trek has mulitverses
