Is it advisable to drill the Starboard? Perhaps it's generally unnecessary. By the way, I find it surprising that Starboard and other companies have variations in mounting points such as deep tuttle, causing issues in connecting everything seamlessly. In some cases, the service desk recommends drilling the boards and foils because they might not fit otherwise. I don't know why it's so hard to maintain standards. Also, Starboard (SB) has an empty space in the DT V5 Alu near the threads, whereas in 2020, they locked the rear thread, making it impossible to rotate it at an angle. Filling these empty spaces would add strength, and it would be possible to leave a rotatable thread allowing the mounting of a Starboard foil on any board.

Good call, I agree with your ideas Michal. My 95cm carbon mast is still holding strong with the drilled holes. After drilling the holes, I contacted Starboard and they told me the side holes are only for a specific deep tuttle mast adapter and was not nessary for my mast. The side holes are for the V7 aluminum mast. They also said the drilled holes should be fine with the 2 extra screws. I did not do real weight twisting test with or without the side screws, so I am not totally sure. I have a feeling that the extra side screws do add some roll stability as the side thickness of aluminum mount is not extra thick. I could also with my hands squeeze in the deep tuttle part in some so maybe after time it could have wore out or stretched out??? If you are getting one for your setup you may want to try the mount without drilling the two extra holes. You may find roll / pitch / yaw have plenty of stiffness. I now use Axis for dock start foot pump foiling / Wing foiling / fun focused Winsurf foiling. Axis has great cross compatability with their gear and usually great quality control. Starboard race foil is still better for Windsurf foiling when average speed / max speed / getting around a race course with steady 9 mph of wind or more. Happy Foiling! 😊

Ok, but which mast have the side holes? Even the new 2022 Starboard Evolution series 300/400 mast don't seem to have the holes. Maybe the production ones will; but the released pictures so far do not.

ZeroR2 yes good call. Foils are making so many upgrades. Who is to say what the next thing will be. The first Starboard Tuttle to Top Plate adaper did not have a side screw option. From North Beach kzbin.info/www/bejne/mprEkph9bM5sgbM There are multiple other Tuttle to Top Plate adapters that do not require or have an option to use side screws. As they are tuttle or Deep tuttle to Top plate also I think they would work great with Starboard or any other tuttle baced foil. Trade off of these is they are thicker and heavier. So more drag and less manuvarability. Would you or I notice a difference ... not sure. I think GoFoil and Sabfoil both have their own versions. Sence I have a Starboard foil I went for the matching piece. I have a higher stall speed foil and a carbon mast so I appreciate less drag and ligher weight. I forget what the aluminum tuttle head looks like but if it does not have a hole I do not think it would be too tough to drill one. Also, I plan to use this for Wing foiling or foot pump foiling. It may do fine with a bunch of roll tourque? For my 1m wide Windfoiling board with a 9.0m Sail or bigger I will stick with the tuttle mount. 🙂 I will try to get a first impressions video out soon with more thought on my new gear / this mount. No go pro just yet. If you hear more about this mount / other mounts give me a shout out. 🙂

@@jonathanreinke9392 I run a Groovekite adapter with my Moses deep tuttle carbon mast. Here is a video. kzbin.info/www/bejne/sGjJlXVqpZ6khbc Just trying to see what the intend is with the side holes. Maybe there is something that will be released from Starboard.

OK .... Yours looks way cooler than mine!!! 😄 Were can you get that? I guess the only thought of the aluminum one is it is thinner and kind of light. I did not weigh mine yet. What does your Groove weigh? I believe the idea is a stronger lock / less likely to bend after time with 2 extra screws. Kind of like Starboard's fuselages. My 4 are all still very stiff and without wear. From what I heard on why so many companies went for aluminum fuselages rather than carbon was it handled every angle / direction or tourque and stress better compaired to a carbon one. I have not tested this but kind of makes sence as how carbon is wrapped determines the load it will take. Maybe aluminum in specific parts of a foil work better??? I will try to contact Starboard to get more specific info. 🙂

@@jonathanreinke9392 Groovekite is 600gr. I think. Moses, Starboard and F4 have very similar aluminum ones. I think they are fine. I just wanted the 10cm lift, same material (carbon) from mast to adapter. If I had SB, I would do the same as you. Maybe the new mast coming out from SB will solve the puzzle and have side holes.

Cool that is light. Nice extra hight too. 🙂 The new Evolutuon mast / fuselage looks like a nice upgrade. I am happy with my Millennium 1000 being my largest front wing for most Windfoiling sessions. For light wind Wingfoiling / Foot Pump foiling / local light wind race days were a long board is best it would be nice to have a efficient larger front wing option that works with the same setup. Rather than swapping to the Starboard quick release setup. Not a big deal but if Starboard offers a larger 1500-2400cm2 option that works with the Evolution fuselage I would probably upgrade!?! I called John With Isthmus Sailboards and he thinks drilling the holes to use the side screws would be just fine but was not totally sure what difference it makes. So he contacted Starboard. Hopefully we will get more info on why their mount uses two extra screws and if it is a good idea to drill some holes if needed "now I am hoping yes 😓😲😀"? I think the Starboard adaptor will work great with other makes of foils ... the Sabfoil one is 1.8 lbs. I may get a session in today so I will wait to hear back from Starboard as far as weight. 🙂 Chat with you soon.
