I started listening to HFY stories a few months ago. Most of the HFY I've listened to for the last couple of months is just garbage, worthless or nearly so. This is one of the few good, thoughtful ones. It actually develops a story rather than just sketch its borders, and describes actions and consequences rather than outline plot points. Well done.
@jackreisewitz66323 ай бұрын
I've pretty much reached my saturation point on poorly written stories, with disjointed ideas filled with contradictions, and structure that barely holds together. This one was apparently authored by a real human, rather than computer generated. That, coupled with your commendation encourages me to invest my time in hearing it. Thank you. I hope that there is more to it than just another self gratifying dose of Machoism

@mhep9367 Well, a story should entertain. A good story will remain with you. A great story will influence you. Most of these HFY stories do none of that. Not surprising. That's not why they are written. They, just like the name "HFY" suggests, are only written to do no more than declare "Go● Damn !! We're So Effing Awesome !!" It's like watching WWF. Vicarious ego stroking.

What, you think humanity's going to kick that habit just because they go to space? Nicotine is a demon, friend, and by the time one generation has collectively agreed to start stamping it out, the newest one or two will already be hooked en masse. It won't leave us til we find a worse demon to replace it with, and even then people like Solomon in the story will continue to use tobacco as a sign of "sophistication" or "traditionalism". Unfortunately for all of us who actually care about air quality one whit, cigarettes aren't going anywhere, even centuries from now.
