@SIB19632 ай бұрын
Probably the best HFY story I've heard, a solid 8 out of ten in a genre that averages 2 or 3 out of 10. Well-written and well-narrated. Well done! If there is a Part 2, I hope the author(s) doesn't cheap out on the morality of the "revenge" genocide. It is not revenge. It is self-preservation. The Chenoo literally destroyed the biome of the planet and every living thing thereon-at least, that was their express intent-without so much as a word of effort to avoid that outcome. Humanity does not need to despise the cowardice of the Chenoo or hate their culture to realize that this species' presence is literally incompatible with humanity's continued existence. If the author(s) wants to somehow weave a thread of redemption where humanity, for some reason, finds a way to avoid extincting the Chenoo, then I hope it's done within the honest context of the plot so far established. No cheaping out. Find a real, believable, relatable reason why humanity avoids doing to the Chenoo what they tried to do (and, given the opportunity, would certainly try again to do) to humanity, or else let humanity protect itself in the only reasonable way it can. I dislike revenge stories, which in our world and "entertainment" media constantly surround us and twist our minds. But in this case, as I've written, it is not revenge. It is survival.

@@user-vo3st8kx7s I think you didn't pay close attention to the timeline. The ship arrived in the Sol system and started building the sun screen, mildly bothered by ineffective attacks. Earth freezes over, this took a couple of years, probably decades. Observers are woken up in Intervalls to check on lifesigns down to microbial level. Time between checkup is most likely decades if not centuries. After a good long while in the freezer and during an active observer period they decide to microwave the planet to sterilize it fully, they then go for a couple of decade nap until the planet is cool enough, then spread their biosphere seed and go for yet another decade long nap. In the next window the planet bears life again, albeit Chenoo flora & fauna and it spread far enough so the ship can be landed, which they do. After check ups they decide the planet needs a bit more time to be on the safe side and take yet another decade or two nap while on the ground. This is when humanity walks into the ship, finds the ship and all databanks unencrypted and otherwise unsecured, so they have a field day in analyzing & learning. They learn so much that they alter the ships software to disregard the moo-moo's voice patterns and most likely also install other security features, amongst other things like killing the entire colonial population then they prepare a welcoming party for the next scheduled wake up call....

But they could be used as labor to rebuild.

Oh, we NEED this story to be continued.... And, I think in the end, after using the technology in the ship, etc. to restore earth, Rello needs to see some human compassion, and come to understand that the humans had no desire to hurt them in the first instance, and perhaps she could become an advocate for stopping this evil practice after living on earth. I also wonder what other uses the humans could put that sun blocking shield to, perhaps terraforming Venus, or Mars?
