I love how the Commando is also arriving late after the cutscene 😂 That poor guy doesn't get a thruster

"... whatever you can dream, you can do. You don't have to be good. You just have to not give up." #ICryEveryTime But seriously though I'm inspired. ngl won't spend 4k hours on a SC2 custom campaign, but hey maybe I'll start working out or something! Thanks to Bilxor for this campaign, it was a great one. Lots of cool mechanics. Serious, but with enough wacky stuff to keep it fun. One of the most promising mechanics is similar to some First Light missions and WC3 where units are more durable and expensive. I think a reason Brood War is still relevant is that it strikes a really good balance between macro, but also individual units matter more and the placement and casts of just 1-2 can turn a fight. Stock SC2 unit groups feel like more like a fluid, the pathing and movement might be TOO good.

I loved this campaign and I take Blixor's message to heart, but I would be lying if I said I didn't have issues with it. Some micro sections are so punishing that they just weren't fun, I especially hated the one where LARA was in the matrix and the one inside the big whale where you get the jelly. Macro sections were phenomenal though, I love the alternative game flow. When finished I just wanted more, I didn't feel like I got to play enough with the units. Just some random mission without a story just to experience more of the units would've been nice. But all in all, amazing work. Playing this made me gasp and get giddy at it's best.

Thank you for the full campaign playthrough of this, Jay. It was very fun to watch you navigate through all the missions, and it was great to hear your thoughts at the end here. I agree thoroughly with your notes on the relative strengths and weaknesses of the campaign after playing through it myself. I would recommend anyone playing LifeForce for the first time to do so on Normal, because there's plenty of difficulty on all the settings, and most of the joy in the campaign comes from the interesting new mechanics (such as the boss fights) and the story choices. Any of the higher difficulties require so much attentiveness and strict builds to survive that you don't really get time to feel out and enjoy all of the faction's units.

I found the middle of the campaign like Luria to be super aggrivating and spent a ton of time in that mission 4-6 range before just quitting. I think you get good units to start to handle the challenge around the Belt of Brontes mission, but it's kind of rough getting there. I do love the meta currencies and the fact that many missions had small tweaks like bonus objectives or enemy compositions that changed with the choices that then got quite vast near the end. Really that's the best way to do it if you can't make dead end side missions like WoL had. Fire Emblem Three Houses has that split earlier, rather than later and it has the effect of being akin to multiple campaigns, even though the maps and setups are mostly the same because of the angle, units, and characters you come at them from (I think if it had a map select screen people wouldn't have liked it as much). But I think it's a bit more natural to make small decisions as you go with maybe one or two big decisions in the middle before the massive one at the end. And I like that it makes the final mission drastically different instead of more or less getting to choose to go into psionics or AI after beating the mission and watching two cutscenes via save scumming. Much more rewarding this way. I also liked both endings. Left things open, made it feel like you made progress and a difference either way and left the door open to the imagination, which I think is just the best way to do it. Rather than UED First Light, who just kept pulling the rug out from under you every single mission, stating nothing you ever did ever mattered, no matter what your gameplay was, and the cherry on top was the hail mary mission that's screwed up by one random hobo in a Zerg-infested structure who somehow is totally fine, despite shooting at everything and everyone and has somehow not shot the console until the exact you walk in. *slow claps*

Enjoyable campaign overall. Amazing how much one person with enough willpower and persistence can create. The expensive unit and upgrade costs does give the mod a different feel from regular Starcraft. Makes sense considering we are commanding a mercenary force - we shouldn't be able to mass a big Marine army. But I do agree that some units require quite a bit of micro for relatively little payoff. Looking forward to seeing you play (and replay) UED: First Light when it is (re)released.

I have mixed feelings about finding all the things to unlock the secret ending kind of game, I suppose the trick is to make the collectathon interesting or it becomes a slog.
@bilxor17813 күн бұрын
It's not a secret ending, it's just obtaining the alternate ending that the other 50% of players earned normally, making it so you don't have to replay missions to see the other ending :)

I don't get your anti-marine feedback. I played brutal and on most missions I feel I had to build 90% commandos. Commandos + maybe other stuff that also used bullet upgrades because they worked well with commandos. You didn't seem to focus much on micro so perhaps it lies in that. I found them simply insane. With all the upgrades their fire rate just becomes fire without the rate, they'll move at the speed of light, take drugs 50 times a second, nuke every enemy with grenades and immediately heal to full for free whenever they're damaged. It just takes attention and decker points.
