StarCraft 2: PROFESSIONAL 2v2?! (Maru & sOs vs MaxPax & souL)

The standard competitive mode in StarCraft 2 is 1v1. However the OlimoLeague recently put on an event where they invited three teams of progamers to face off in a 2v2 (2 vs 2) event. In this video I cast a best-of-5 between Maru and sOs on one team, and MaxPax and souL on the other.

@Calandiel Yeah RTS is more of a sport than thing you do for fun. It demand so much APM and attention, it is very stressful to play. I think adding in more automation for macro and better unit AI will make better casual games.

I personally prefer that each person is their own unique color. It allows you to see more clearly what's happening with unit movement on the mini map.

This was such a breath of fresh air, and there's still so much more potential for 2v2 as well. I felt like all of them were playing more reserved considering there was way more harassing/guerrilla than big fights vs 1v1's feel of almost every fight could end the game. Hopefully 2v2 will hit that stage eventually, that will be a sight to see.

For clarification: It is possible to build a refinery, extractor or assimilator and let the probes, drones, scvs of your teammate mine from said gas extracting structure of you give the other player control this was one of the builds i did back in wol to get faster phoenixes

I actually greatly appreciate the Orange and Light Blue. Nice to see color variety in casts. Makes it a bit spicier, plus it's easier to tell who is controling what in a 2v2 (though they did play different races this time, it's still easier)

I don't know if it's still the case, but if I remember correctly, back in Wings of Liberty, you weren't allowed to either give resources or share control until a few minutes into the match. I used to play a lot of 3v3 with my college roommates, and our usual strategy would be to share control as soon as it was allowed, which would allow me to handle all of the team's macro and my roommates to each handle half of the army.

@ProteusXF I typically played Zerg, and my teammates typically played one Terran and one Protoss. I think we were in Diamond league, but I don't remember too clearly (since this was over a decade ago during the first year and a half of Wings of Liberty). My teammates typically opened with mass Reaper harass (with Wings of Liberty Reapers that could actually destroy buildings) and a cannon rush while I macro up so that even if the opponents held the harass, we would still be in decent shape as soon as resource transferring became available. As soon as we could share control, I'd take over macro (production, research, economy) for all three bases, and they'd handle the army, harassing, scouting, and telling me what unit composition they want. Rally points for unit production were just set out to the front line (with some units left behind to defend against harass), and my teammates could just grab the units as they arrive. As this was back in the era of death balls, the biggest advantage to this strategy (other than the fact that no one needed to multitask after the opening) was the fact that you could have a death ball made up of units from all three races without needing to coordinate all three players to move their own units with the others (e.g. you don't need both the Zerg and Terran players to coordinate a Zerg + Medivac push if the Zerg player can take control of the Medivacs or the Terran player can take control of the Zerg army). It's really fun (as long as you have someone who doesn't mind doing nothing but macro), and I really recommend trying it out if you ever have a team to consistently play with.

I would love to see a Rak'sir game mode, where like in the campaign you support one side, and the enemy supports the other side. When it is a 2v2 or more then both needs to support one ascendant.

2v2 feels like it would be so nuts to watch. With all the strats and ideas we see in a 1v1 all the stuff that comes into play with a 2v2 increases the complexity 10 fold. It is awesome. Imagine high level strats like facing off against a toss terran army but you are terran zerg, so you prefer a bio build because yeay medivac with zerg units. But all the other things that come into play. Would be soooo cool to see more of this.

Idea I've seen some once it was fun to see. Throne: one player is given the middle with a bunch of materials and some starting defenses. The throne wins by killing the other 4-6 players. Who ever kills the 'king' and builds an HQ at the throne wins.

Jo @Lowko! There was a capture the flag map in SC1 that was absolutely cool. It was a 4 Player map. No Teams. There was only one flag in the middle of the map. To win you Had to bring the flag into your own Base 3 Times. The flag would appear only after some time has past since the beginning of the map. It was so cool of a map because you could also Play it, If there was Skill difference between the Players

Definitely agree with you on MOBAs. Its easier on you when loosing is never (arguably) 100 percent your fault. Though honestly thats what drove me back to SC2, there's something refreshing about everything being on you, and not having to collaborate or blaming a teammate for a talent selection, or playing the antithesis of their champion's role.
